The interviewer has no idea that Zappa is fucking with him a bit about the "vibe". "I'm very conscious of the vibe...the vibe is so vital" . Yeah, that's what he thinks.
This is an excellent interview. And it's so nice to see how Frank, about halfway through, realizes that this guy is actually all right and not out to make fun of him. The ice immediately melts and the rest of the interview is very warm and friendly. That wasn't always the case!
People get Frank's views on drugs totally wrong. He's not anti drug. He's anti drug for himself and anything that effects him personally. That is totally reasonable. Noone wants a junkie in their band fucking things up on multiple levels.
Great interview! If you look at any interview with Frank, you'll notice how he sort of "tests" the interviewer first to see where they stand. I would say that his first responses to questions are sarcastic, but it's really more like comedic contempt. Anyway, it seems like if the interviewer can make him laugh, then they're "in", and he relaxes and becomes very charming and interested. And I think that's exactly what this interviewer does: He asks good questions, with a sense of humour. Great!
Bill Boggs was a great interviewer. I've checked out some more of his interviews on youtube and he always comes across as knowing his subject well and as a true fan of music.
Dec. 4th, 1993 sucked, the worst. Thank goodness he put music forth at a prolific rate. Almost like he knew his time was limited. Damned Burnt Weenie Sandwiches...
It's all good, body language perpetuating all the right signals, voices at an 'agreeable' phonetic. And a common interest between the two. The interviewer seems real nice, Zappa is Zappa of course, you have to be on a higher level to chat with him i think. Great post! Thanx!
Really like this interview. Frank seemed happy to oblige all of Bill's questions, even the more dubious ones that he was probably required to ask. Great stuff!
The interviewer is using a keyword approach to formulating his series of questions, which gets him to asking sillier and sillier ones as the interview progresses.
Precisely what I'd noticed.. in fact, I was all set for an *other* uncomfortable interview with clueless interviewers. This host was, as you say, all right..
Zappa was right. Disco became different. It wasn't music anymore. By the late 70a, people started to hate it. So, disco died. He did forsee its demise.
"There is no music going on or any dancing with disco. It fulfills its function, it makes lonely people get together." It still is up to this day. All of that swag and yolo bullshit. That's what it is. Many people embrace misery.
so i'm not the only one who thought of Will Ferrell then? it's quite uncanny. Frank is so funny. i'm in fits of laughter every time i watch an interview with him.
I think its funny that his has a cigarette in the interview. If somebody went on late night with a cig, that would make headlines in tabloids everywhere.
I'm surprised at the comments here. This was actually a very good interview. Mr. Boggs is very engaging with Frank, perhaps a bit naive, but remember he has to cater to his audience too. He asks Zappa some good questions, and as a result, gets very interesting answers.
"I introduced you by saying you had a lot to do with introducing theatrics into rock and rock" Frank reply, "This is it!" That sums up the whole interview. Frank was amazing at sliding in genius ridicule without people seeing it.
He doesn't use drugs ... except for nicotine and caffeine. I wonder if he used a drug called alcohol. At the end, Frank mentions Don Pardo who recently died (August 2014). RIP Don (and Frank).
the interviewer is "looks like" Will Ferrell's father...and that is my intellectual property...thank you. If a movie is to be made based on this interview...Yay! I will take 100,000 United States of America dollars and a quesadilla from taco bell....and SOLD!

The host is not a dipstick Frankie is digging that guy ... Great interview .. He asked all the questions Frankie wanted to hear
You never saw Frank laugh much in interviews. I appears he likes Billy. Good stuff.
Not just the smartest man in rock and roll, the most intelligent too.
The day after he turned 36. Unbelievable... what did he have, like 15 years left? A brilliant man taken much to early.
People get Frank's views on drugs totally wrong. He's not anti drug. He's anti drug for himself and anything that effects him personally. That is totally reasonable. Noone wants a junkie in their band fucking things up on multiple levels.
Great interview!

Great!
Man Will Ferrell has aged well over the years...
what a splendid interview by two gentlemen....refreshing.
Good Interviewer, very sincere guy... seems like he's enjoying talking to FZ. Thanks for the upload....
Note how he looks directly into the interviewer whenever the interviewer is speaking. That did get to you. Love this one.
Frank Zappa is brilliant ...
"you're able to feel a little wiser now at 36?"
"definitely, really smart now"
LOL
"How's your hearing?"
"Huh?"
Bill Boggs was a great interviewer. I've checked out some more of his interviews on youtube and he always comes across as knowing his subject well and as a true fan of music.
I miss Mr. Zappa.

Love Frank. Bill Boggs is a solid interviewer.
This is gold.
Good interview, Frank seems very comfortable talking to him.

zappa seems to always make the interview his own.
that was a very good interview that guy was real polite good stuff.
Really like this interview. Frank seemed happy to oblige all of Bill's questions, even the more dubious ones that he was probably required to ask. Great stuff!
wow...he was about to make the finest zappa album...zappa in new york! great interview...the host gets it, i think.
"I have been to very many discotheques..." Frank, you're the best.
Really wish i could have seen him play live it must have been amazing, shame he died when i was 2

I think Zappa is having a good time in this interview.
Zappa rocks every single interview :D
Zappa was right. Disco became different. It wasn't music anymore. By the late 70a, people started to hate it. So, disco died. He did forsee its demise.
Great Interview. Glad I stumbled across this. Thanks for uploading :)
The performances Frank alludes to were released as "Zappa In New York." If you haven't heard it, I don't know what you're doing with your life.
Oh...and I totally love Frank Zappa
Zappa having fun. 36. Bloody hell.
Is the interview done by will ferrel
lmfao...that's what i was wondering 😂😂
It's Ron Burgundy
+Sam Finoh You've discovered Bill Boggs' secret identity.
Seems like it
Hahaha, nice one, and talks like Zoolander... Hahahahaha
"..it was the attack of the bass.." lol xD
RIP Frank. I wish he were still here to provide commentary on today's world.
i love that version of i am the slime that don sings on :D
"There is no music going on or any dancing with disco. It fulfills its function, it makes lonely people get together." It still is up to this day. All of that swag and yolo bullshit. That's what it is. Many people embrace misery.
there is no music going on.....
the host should've said Happy Birthday for christ sake.
Great smile !. how can you not laugh with him.
Frank Zappa interviewed by Ron Burgundy. lol
Great interview
so i'm not the only one who thought of Will Ferrell then? it's quite uncanny. Frank is so funny. i'm in fits of laughter every time i watch an interview with him.
that's right... how we'd need men like Frank nowadays..
I'm almost positive this is not Will Ferrells father...
Great Interviewer.
Love you Frank.
Thanks That was a big long smile maker KPM
I think its funny that his has a cigarette in the interview. If somebody went on late night with a cig, that would make headlines in tabloids everywhere.
How freaking amazing is (was) this man?
what a good guy
Zappa fantastico!!!!!!!!!
Another good one.
I'm surprised at the comments here. This was actually a very good interview. Mr. Boggs is very engaging with Frank, perhaps a bit naive, but remember he has to cater to his audience too. He asks Zappa some good questions, and as a result, gets very interesting answers.
Frank Zappa speaks softly, I don't think I've ever heard him raise his voice, not in interviews.
Actually for frank, broadway was really only 8 years away.
Bill Boggs produced the "Dumb All Over" broadcast.
There is someone like him in Saudi Arabia
"...because the VIBE is so vital (sly grin). "
He's totally making fun of him.
For a second there I thought it was Will Ferrell conducting the interview.
"I introduced you by saying you had a lot to do with introducing theatrics into rock and rock" Frank reply, "This is it!" That sums up the whole interview. Frank was amazing at sliding in genius ridicule without people seeing it.
You figured that out? Pure genius. Totally.
I disagree with Frank on this one... I love disco. and I love Zappa`s music. disco is so full of energy!
vital
Originally,Warner brothers released it without his consent.
Must be great to be 36.
Must be great to be 36.That was really nice.
Zappa was the man. At least we have Al jourgenson, And of course Gibby from the surfers. And lest we forget GG Allin
He doesn't use drugs ... except for nicotine and caffeine. I wonder if he used a drug called alcohol.
At the end, Frank mentions Don Pardo who recently died (August 2014). RIP Don (and Frank).
No he didn't.
It was only Cigarettes, Coffee and sex for Zappa.
Yeah he liked Budweiser beer too
teppolundgren, i also thought the interviewer was being quite cool n it made for a good interview......
holy crap thats what i was goonna...
Sounds like him, too.
This guy should be interviewing children.
And sounds like him. It must be him XD.
I'ts at right about 4:19
It's weird how he interviewer looks and sounds like will Ferrell
This is so funny
the interviewer is "looks like" Will Ferrell's father...and that is my intellectual property...thank you. If a movie is to be made based on this interview...Yay! I will take 100,000 United States of America dollars and a quesadilla from taco bell....and SOLD!

YA gotta wonder what the ONE person in over 26K people, that don't like FZ listens to..Hmm

Is that guy trying to sell Frank on disco? lol
This is hilarious. This interviewer has no clue who he is. Frank is very gentlemanly in not doing what Frank can do.
speakin bout vibes s s ssss ss
This is hilarious. I feel sorry for the poor interviewer. He's no match.
this host sounds possessed by some evil entity
I hope this interviewer is NOT working anymore! he has no clue!
