@@ionryfulthat’s true but I do like Toy Story 4. When Pixar hits, they hit hard, but it seems to me that even when they miss, it’s at least still a good time.
Something people sleep on with Marlin in this is that he LISTENS to Nemo. At the end of the first film he learns that he needs to trust his son, and listen to him. He is still a worrier - of course he is, he's got a lot of trauma. But he has grown to trust his son.
Dory is my favorite Pixar character. I have autism and it’s inspiring to see Dory get through her life with her short term memory loss. Like her mom said in her own amazing Dory way💙
What? Autism is not a sympathy card. I'm dealing with it for over 30 years. This is an animated film created by people no one knows anything about. Use the power of your "disability" and see the truth.
I love stories that highlight how a character may be differently abled, but it's not something they try to "fix" or "cure" as a plot point, it's just showing how others live. Such important representation.
(hey jsyk on the whole an overwhelming majority of disabled ppl don't rly like the term 'differently abled' and prefer disabled) (but also as a multiply disabled person i truly do love and approve of your main point with this comment)
It's a bizarre world we live in, that cures are so demonized. I've never seen anyone rail against cures for allergies or pneumonia, yet for things that cause even more upheaval than that it's somehow wrong to even _look_ for a cure, or _ever even one time portray a cure as a positive thing,_ regardless of the details. I'm not against movies that _don't_ portray cures, but by the same token there's no reason we should be against movies that _do._
Octopuses are considered to be highly intelligent animals that have demonstrated their intelligence in many ways: Problem-solving: Octopuses can solve puzzles, untie knots, open jars, and toddler-proof cases. They can also squeeze through mazes and complete tasks to get food rewards. Escape artists: Octopuses are expert escape artists from aquariums, and can press buttons to get out of enclosures. Tool use: Octopuses can use tools and have been observed unscrewing jar lids. Memory: Octopuses have short-term and long-term memories, similar to vertebrates, and can pass on personality traits to their offspring. Face recognition: Octopuses can recognize individual human faces. Interaction: Octopuses can interact with caretakers.
There's this cool video where a diver saw an octopus, and the octopus grabbed her hand like it wanted her to follow, and took her to an underwater memorial that some other divers had built, containing a photograph of a man and his dog. It's not known if it took her there because it recognized her as being the same type of animal as the man in the photograph, or if it took her there because it had seen other divers go there and assumed that was where she wanted to go too, but either way it clearly understood that there was a connection. It was so cool.
I like that they didn't make Dory's memory loss into a hidden talent that saves the day. So often with movies with a disabled main character it's like, "nobody hangs out with him because he has autism, but in the end, his savant syndrome (a direct result of his autism) saves the day so people tolerate him, even though he hasn't improved his social skills over the course of the film, so it doesn't seem very genuine." Most disabilities aren't feel-good special skills, they're challenges that require compensation on the part of the individual to live a relatively normal life. Dory's helpful personality, impulsivity, and intelligence that make her such a lovable and effective character are part of her, not a result of her short term memory loss. She works hard and uses her positivity, skills, and tricks her parents came up with to compensate for her memory loss, which is a feat on its own. Even with her own disability working against her, she was able to overcome more than a typical character would have to because of the person she is/was raised to be.
Theres so much about this sequel that I love. The Finding Nemo stories have always hit close to home for me. I have a sibling with Down Syndrome (both physical and intellectual disabilities), and I'm a special needs teacher. Having two stories that represent people with differing abilities is so wonderful. On that note, I love Marlin's journey in this one. In the last movie he learned to trust Nemo despite his physical disability, but intellectual disabilities are so much scarier to a caretaker. Baby Dory had both me and my mother sobbing in the theatres with how much she reminded us of my sister. And the scene where the mom is crying over her fear of Dory's future is so relatable because we've both had similar talks over the years, especially when my sister aged out. Props to the writers! They must've had people who were familiar with this world we select few are a part of.
I don’t think this sequel was necessary but the writers really did a really good job with exploring Dory’s short memory loss and tie in to the plot of her getting lost. The short term memory loss isn’t made for jokes like the first movie, it’s part of the story and the struggle of character losing her parents. This reason is why it doesn’t feel a rehash from the original movie.
Finding Nemo and Finding Dory are so good at representation of disabilities and that they aren't as bad as people think (while still being serious) Dory has short term memory loss, Nemo is an amputee, Hank has lost an entire tentacle, Marlin has severe emotional trauma, Destiny is almost blind, Bruce and the other sharks are "addicts" and never knew their fathers. I would go on if I knew the names of the other many represented handicaps, which in itself shows how much they cared about it💜
I love finding Nemo so much, but I have to admit. this one really hit home run with me, I personally liked the second one better than the first movie. But that's just me. I love Dory.
I have autism and horrendous brain damage.. I also had a special needs brother who was basically a human parrot.. wanting you to repeat. I loved him woth all my heart he wasn't supposed to live past 5 made it into his 30s 9 brain surgeries and just... a hard life. He's gone now. Watching finding dory made me cry real hard man... it's such a good movie so many people struggle
I'm so sorry for your loss. You both sound like great siblings who got to share so much love and amazing memories in the precious little time you had together...
The Tank Gang appeared in the post credits scene still in their bags and they are rescued and taken to the facility. Originally, they had a bigger role but they changed it. I hope we can see them again if there's a 3rd movie. I really miss Gill and the others.
I used to dislike that post credits scene, but after rewatching the movie i've remembered: The gang is just staying there for a while and then they are going to be released back in the ocean (without the bags this time) so..... It's all good.
This movie and Puss in Boots 2 have some of the best recreations of panic attacks an animated media, which is really refreshing. I adore this movie and how it shows the struggle Dory has just going about her daily life, where it isn't just a silly gag. As someone with PTSD and other mental struggles it really hits different. Is it Pixars best? No. Does it have some great qualities? Absolutely!
The beluga is voiced by the father from Modern Family, Phil Dunphy. And the octopus is voiced by the grandfather from Modern Family, Jay Pritchett. Modern Family is such a great show! ❤
When Finding Dory was first announced, I remember not thinking very highly of the idea and considered it almost a super late cash grab. But when I actually watched it, I was pleasantly surprised. Watching it again now, though? Good lord, did I underestimate and undervalue this film... It's so much better than I remember and even though I knew the "follow the shells" scene was coming, it still broke me and I cried some pretty heavy tears 😭
The seashell scene got so many people crying, seeing them stretch far outward and knowing they kept looking. The visual of the lines of shells is just so powerful!
I was so looking forward to this reaction! It is without a doubt one of the absolute most adorable movies ever made, baby dory is the cutest thing ever!!
Love this sequel! Such a great story from start to finish. I have to recommend Sing. Not sure if this has been recommended by a fellow mellow but it's definitely worth a watch and a top tier cast. Also the same actor who played Nemo in the first film is the same one who voiced the truck driver at the end! Love your reactions, Oscar ❤
Didn't get the chance to say this on Nemo, so I'll drop it here: the turtle's way of speaking comes from a particular regional accent, originating in Southern California, that's commonly associated with surfers. So he's not necessarily high, it's just his native dialect.
I went to see this film with my dad, cuz we saw Finding Nemo together when I was a wee kiddo and thought it would be nostalgic. Boy, there was not a dry eye in the room when Dory reunited with her parents, same with me -- I left the cinema loving my family even more
7:02 yesss blue tangs are crazy fast. I had one for a while she swam rings around my clowns was a nightmare when I had to catch her out the tank took me like 20 minutes to net her 😂
Fun fact - those two seals are voiced by Dominic West and Idris Elba, who previously starred together on the dark HBO crime drama “The Wire,” where they played characters on the opposite sides of the law. And this is their reunion. Here, of all places.
The only thing that frustrated me with this film was that they never made the decision to show that Dory does NOT just have short-term memory loss - She has as EXCELLENT memory for reading, and that is her strength. They just gloss over the part where Marlin transitions from being frustrated with her to accepting her, and it's obvious there's a missing middle interaction which was key to embracing Dory's difference and 'disability'. She has short-term memory loss, yes, but how great would it have been at the end for to have Dory teach the other fish how to read by writing in the sand?
I think maybe it could have been focused a bit more on, but that scene when Marlin talks to Dory about how he couldn’t have done all those things without her is THAT scene. I think maybe it doesn’t hit as hard than some scenes in the first film because they aren’t together throughout the film as often. Also it’s almost shoved down our throat that she is reasonably good at reading and remembering those things she reads 😆 I think everything you described it’s lacking is actually there, it’s just things like pacing and the plot that make those things not hit as hard.
The two films present the character defining what she remembers, what she knows, and who she is. Overtly accrediting reading as a core bit of that would be beyond the scope of the film.
I love this movie! Toy Story 3 and this film are in my top 5 PIXAR films. I was tearing up right with you when she reunited with her parents despite having seen this movie before! PIXAR knows how to tug at your heartstrings!
From 35:33 to 36:30 makes me bawl my eyes out. I suffer from a learning disability from childhood and still struggle as an adult. So Dory apologizing to her parents that she has a problem makes me cry because I’ve done the same thing. 😢
Little Dory is so adorable! And though my disability is purely physical her parents devotion is so heartwarming. Still I have seen some criticize this because they feel it sends a message that society doesn't need to do anything and us disabled people just need "grit and gumption" to solve all our problems. I think that's kind of overanalyzing a kids movie, but also it's not like it shows everything is just grit. There are kinds of "adaptive technology" for her. And I kind of like she does learn what she can do and sees value in herself.
There's a lot I love about this film. From the creative water placement that allows the fish to traverse the facility, how crazy the animators went with the accuracy of Hank's seven legged movements, and of course, its accurate portrayal of the challenges disabled people have to go through in life and how that affects them and their loved ones. But something I learned for myself while watching this reaction, is that this movie actually has a secret twist villain. What's even crazier, is that this hidden villain makes its return after the events of Finding Nemo. That villain is none other than humanity's unethical practice of removing animals from their natural habitats. In the movie, the Jewel of Morro Bay California repeatedly announces it's mission: to rescue, rehabilitate, and release ocean life. What happens in the background? Not that apparently, as perfectly healthy Blue Tangs were being transported to an aquarium exhibit. Knowing this now makes that scene where the truck full of fish crashes into the ocean all the more impactful to me. Especially as Sigourney Weaver repeats her iconic Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Release. Further emphasizing Release in such a subtle yet clever way to the audience
My mom and sister came home after watching this one, and they were 'Loretta, you didn't tell us your name was in there!' And I was like no? It wasn't? I had watched the English version in theathers. They went to the Dutch version where the aquarium voice over mentions my name somewhere 😂😂 It's super fun to look for my name, because it's so uncommon in media - I've found 1 song with my name. And two games: A letter in Until Dawn and a character in Vampyr.
@@lorettabes4553 Dutch? Cool, I would have guessed its an italian name 😯 (cause of the sound). Sry for my lousy english, I'm german 😬 I have the same name as Elvis Presleys daughter and don't like it really.
16:46 biologically impossible. sharks can breathe while moving; if they don't, they'll suffocate. it's why they always have their mouth slightly open. and the only reason why some are seen resting on the floor is because there's a current.
Just realized that Fluke, the black sea lion, is voiced by Idris Elba who also voiced Chief Bogo in Zootopia, as soon as I heard his voice I was like THATS CHEIF BOGO!
There was a US sitcom that ran from the late 1980s to the late 1990s called Married with Children. Very controversial but extremely hilarious show. The lead character, Al Bundy, was played by an actor named Ed O'Neil. He's doing the voice of the octopus in this movie and also did the voice of the arcade owner in the Wreck it Ralph movies.
I have autism and I’m not ashamed of who I am. Anyway, I enjoy finding dory after, I graduated from high school due to my 5th grade level retention in grade school from English literature I only struggle with.
I'm on the spectrum too, and while I don't have too many difficulties, Dory is an unapologetically compassionate, yet difficult character to handle because of her disability and it offers people such a valuable lesson on how to get compassionate and caring for others. 😊
Cute baby Dory, her parents, and trauma/comfort message aside, this movie is a complete retread for several characters and Nemo just doesn't have an arc at all which would be fine if he didn't solely exist to be the subpar Dory memory for his dad. Though I thought Hank and the shark whale were nice additions.
Would love an explanation for the “retreat” part. I felt like I covered my opinion of that perspective in my review so any new thoughts I would love! Cheers.
Originally Destiny and Bailey were going to be combined into one character in the form of an orca that lived in the aquarium that dory learned whale from (orcas are technically dolphins but it's a lot closer to whale than a whale shark which are fish) but was quickly changed relatively late in production cuz well the less said about orcas in captivity the better
Im gonna lie but finding dory wasn't as good as finding Nemo but it did set a lesson on not giving up after coming so far to looking something your determined to find in this case dory's determination to find her parents which is heart touching
Honestly, I knew this was a good movie and I did find it sad in its moments, but once I had a family and my son then this hits me like a TRUCK!!! Seriously man inc eu have kids ur POV changes all over the world and how we see life
0:56 Yep, this one gets everyone 😂 The voice director and voice actor must've been at the very top of their game to get something so unbearably cute to come out of her mouth. 5:36 Nope! Same one! But these movies are 13 years apart 😉 On a related note, Nemo _does_ have a different VA! Makes sense; since he's a kid, his voice would change the most out of all the main characters. 6:25 They're kids, they don't fully understand death. It's like that turtle in the first movie that asked Marlin "Mr. Fish, did you die?" 11:07 Because she's an icon! And famous actors narrate stuff all the time, for PR. When I went to the Epcot Center as a kid, there was an introductory film starring Ellen Degeneres 😆 25:56 He wasn't kidding, scallops really do have eyes! I looked it up!
Great reaction! I’m so glad you enjoyed the sequel! Dory is one of my favorite characters and I love how we got to learn more about her. If you like Sigourney Weaver you’d love her in these films: Aliens, Avatar, Avatar: The Way of the Water, Crazy On The Outside, and Holes!!! 👩🏻🦰🐠🐙🐳🐋🐚💙💛
24:49 Remember, this is PIXAR. That's a toy fish. What have PIXAR done with toys? Make them secretly alive. therefore, that toy fish is probably alive and trying to help them.
i've watched this movie once only i guess and rewatching here made me CRY A RIVER!!! idk why but little dory made me so emotional that i couldnt hold on

Why do you capitalize so many words? I'm not critiquing, I know a lot of people write like that (although I personally don't understand it), I'm just really curious where that typing style comes from.
I remember when this movie came out. I think it was 2018- pretty sure. Anyways I remember really liking it but now that I’m older it’s so much more emotional for me😭

Yay I’m so happy you’re watching this!!
My mom and sister came home after watching this one, and they were 'Loretta, you didn't tell us your name was in there!'
And I was like no? It wasn't?
I had watched the English version in theathers. They went to the Dutch version where the aquarium voice over mentions my name somewhere 😂😂
It's super fun to look for my name, because it's so uncommon in media - I've found 1 song with my name. And two games: A letter in Until Dawn and a character in Vampyr.
Wow I have to say that is a pretty name 🥺
@@MeanMawileThanks! My mom picked it. We Have a Dutch celebrity, kinda the darling of the Netherlands, which is where she saw it.
@@lorettabes4553 Dutch? Cool, I would have guessed its an italian name 😯 (cause of the sound). Sry for my lousy english, I'm german 😬 I have the same name as Elvis Presleys daughter and don't like it really.
@@MeanMawile Your English is great, what do you mean? There are plenty of people who learned English first and still are worse than you.
@@Lokear thank you :*
Fun fact! Alexander Gould, who voiced Nemo in the first movie, plays one of thr the transport drivers in the climax!
Your reaction to both of these movies was amazing 👍🏻
Thank you so much for your wholesome content! I watched all your videos while drawing and I look forward to viewing more in the future!
Absolute legend for this. Thanks for watching them ☺️
16:46 biologically impossible.
sharks can breathe while moving; if they don't, they'll suffocate. it's why they always have their mouth slightly open. and the only reason why some are seen resting on the floor is because there's a current.
Baby Dory is like child Nezuko from Demon Slayer. Whenever she does something cute I have to pause the video and take a second to recover 😭😭
Seeing the little Dory alone and lost, always hits me 💔 that’s so sad 🥺 when I watched it by first time I cried a lot! 🥺🥺🥺
One of the few creators that always cries at the same things as me. thanks for always being such a wholesome place to unwind in this crazy world ❤
Literally everytime baby Dory has a scene I was in tears 😭 You should check out Storks
So glad u decided to watch finding dory. It isnt as magical as finding nemo but it is still a lot of fun with some great emotional moments.
Watching this made me want to have kids 😢. I remember watching this in the theater and I couldn't stop crying
there was also a deleted scene with the tank gang too
yessss! im so exicted you decided to also do finding dory!
Cheers.
When dory found her parent was for me one of pixar's most emotional scenes 😢
I love love love your videos so much! You're my favourite youtuber, keep up the good work! :)
Animating Hank was super difficult! Rigging him too
The only time I watched this all the way through, I feel like I cried about every 5 minutes. 😢 Couldn't watch it again..
finding dory was one of the few movies i CRIED out of sadness, it's such a beautiful story telling of memory loss. i love it so much.
Seriously man inc eu have kids ur POV changes all over the world and how we see life
As a person named Becky, can confirm that looking me in the eye and going "ooh-roo" works every time.
30:14 I'm pretty sure this is a reference to that one scene in 'Alien' and I love it 😂.
Bob Peterson is Mr Ray in both movies
Fun Fact: Bob Peterson also does Dug's voice in Up and Roz in Monsters Inc.
I totally forgot about this movie. 😅 No, but really, I love it even more than the original because of it's wonderful characters. Especially Becky!
🎉🎉YESSS, IM SO EXITED TO WATCH THE REACTION
7:57 missed opportunity for a “far out!” 😂
I love these reactions so much! Keep up the great work!
The way this movie speaks to neurodivergent, people with mental illness and such, it's just beautiful ❤
Fish, did you die?"
11:07 Because she's an icon! And famous actors narrate stuff all the time, for PR. When I went to the Epcot Center as a kid, there was an introductory film starring Ellen Degeneres 😆
25:56 He wasn't kidding, scallops really do have eyes!
You should watch the "Ice Age" franchise movies, they are great
Honestly one of my favorite disney sequels. Its cute, sad, and funny all in one! And a pretty good sequel at that! Thank you for reacting to this 💙🧡🐠
Thank you for watching it! I was waiting for you to watch it haha. I love this movie so much. And baby Dory is so adorable 😭😭😭
24:49 Remember, this is PIXAR. That's a toy fish. What have PIXAR done with toys? Make them secretly alive. therefore, that toy fish is probably alive and trying to help them.
My goodness seeing you cry broke me. I love your reactions so much cant wait for the next one. Keep up the fantastic work.
Thanks, Oscar! 🐟
i've watched this movie once only i guess and rewatching here made me CRY A RIVER!!! idk why but little dory made me so emotional that i couldnt hold on
It is awesome to see a young man have and show the emotion that you have done especially in this reaction.
truly one of the better sequel movies to a beloved classic.
Please do Sinbad the legend of the seven seas next . Is so underrated
Beautiful.Especially with Dory now being the main character
The HIGH TURTLE, what crush should be remembered as…
Hi The Coca Couch, I'm Really Love Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. My Favorite Character is Dory and I love Destiny and Bailey also Hank in this movie. Yea This is got me into Tears after they show you what really happened with Dory trying to find her parents. I love Marlin and Nemo help her to find her family.
Why do you capitalize so many words? I'm not critiquing, I know a lot of people write like that (although I personally don't understand it), I'm just really curious where that typing style comes from.
Cant wait for Incredibles 2!
Once again, my day has been made! Love the videos Oscar!
38:15 "Ah yes, my beautiful gift! 🎁 "
I remember when this movie came out. I think it was 2018- pretty sure. Anyways I remember really liking it but now that I’m older it’s so much more emotional for me😭
yess im finally early!!! also im so sry but finding dory is better than finding nemo to me
There was an afterscene with the tank gang from the first film!
Great reaction your empathy is priceless for your little kid or an adult or a teenager. You could go and learn something and enjoy the film with you especially this type of film special. Thank you for sharing with us for fun and until next time.
As a person on the autism spectrum iv'e been in little dory shoes sometimes forget where am i at times by myself mostly keeping secured with a tag with info on it in case going too far away but overall its a challenge and sometimes you'll be able to make it on your own at times
i believe there's a post credit scene with all the fish from the fish tank in finding nemo.
Thank you for being a bright spot in a really dark time of my life.
