Hi everyone, I am finally done with my 2000 km Zhejiang bike tour! 🚴♀ This video is the culmination of all this time I spent on the road and a very significant project for the organization I work at, Green Zhejiang. It’s an entry to a video-making competition so the style is quite different from my usual vlogs (still edited by me though, not by a third party). Hope you all will enjoy it anyway 😄
If you’re wondering where the rest of the series is, it is coming! I have 3 full SD cards of footage waiting to be edited. Once I finish sharing the rest of the bike series videos, this channel will be shifting into some new content - life in rural China 🐓 Not visits or travels or bike tours through villages, but my actual life in a village! Green Zhejiang has several rural office locations and I have finally gotten the opportunity to be transferred to one of them! Lots of exciting things coming up, stay tuned 🏠😍

@williamwilliam I do a lot of different stuff, sustainability education programs for kids, translating at conferences/events, environmental related video production (most of them are for third-party clients/projects and don't end up on here), etc. now that I've moved to rural China I'll have a lot of work related to promoting local products, doing local sustainability projects / ecology camps for kids etc, and changing people's perceptions of life in rural China (mostly Chinese people's perceptions, especially the younger generation, but my RUclips audience is a 'bonus' haha, a way to share China stories with the rest of the world). I'll get around to making a video on what my job actually is one of these days, LOL

You remind me of Joseph Needham, the man who loved China. He was a scientist from Cambridge, travelled to China to document Chinese inventions, and was interested in China's waterways. Thought to be the Stephen Hawkin of his time.
Needham's story ( The Man who loved China) and writings are massive well worth revisiting.
What a change in China. I cannot image how effort the govenment has made to protect the envioment along with the ecnomic developing.

Among all the travel vloggers in China, Katherine (阳离子) is the best for me. I even envy her footprints, from northeast to southwest, from Inner Mongolia to Hainan Island, and also Xinjiang, Qinghai and Xizang (Tibet). If you ask me which is my favorite scenario, it is the Dinner in a Shangri-La Temple!

I was born in Wenzhou but left China around 1978 to live in Europe and US. This is epic! Thank you for your contribution to my hometown/province.
It's just amazing things can change this much dramatically just within 20 years.
*It's not that unusual. Canada and USA and western European and Japan didn't care about pollution until the 1970s and in about a generation, those place cleaned up dramatically as well.*

China is among the top in the world on environmental protection to-date.
Many countries plan, discuss, setup standards, protest, fine, etc. But nothing much in progress, or talking one and doing the other.

You must have the strongest thigh and bum muscles because I can barely ride 8km without becoming jelly (although they are the alipay city bikes), and you’re always doing these long and awesome rides! Great video ❤

From this, 🤔l learnt : A “good government” is to be brave to "recognize & solve its internal problems", and is a good policy creator, a good leader＆ an educator “for its people”, while its “good people” are willing to “follow ＆ cooperate with their good government”. That brings lots of successes.
When I first planned on coming to China, I was set on Hangzhou and actually ended up way up northeast. This video has inspired me to travel to Zhejiang one day. What an incredible adventure Katherine..

Have bike will travel and I love your interaction with the locals at different stops which I find most interesting. No "clever" editing can slant a story. I would not mind documenting your story with my camera and like the song goes "I will follow her" wherever Katherine may go. There isn't a journey that is too long that I am not able to follow. Hi Katherine. Thankyou. I've watched your vlogs for sometime (yrs? ) That Hao and Green Zhejiang has helped the transformation of his nation to a greener more sustainable future is of huge credit to him , his team. and you for being there to show it. Three of us created a similar venture in 2000, Transend, it gained national recognition, it flew , then our government changed and tokenism ruled. Pleased our project still exists helping local our community. It is sad however, that our nation is now experiencing those pollution levels Zhejiang showed in 2003. Enjoy. p.s A japanese documentary maker Hezimong (Nanking) made a trip down Yangzte river in 2010, repeated in 2020 - in 2020 at top of the head waters Qinghai/ Tibet it was amazing to see an enironment group collecting and sorting rubbish so to return to the original companies ... red/white bottles featured too much!

以前广州城里的河涌到处都是臭的，流到到珠江水以后，珠江水也发臭。现在这几年政府加大整顿，以前市中心臭气寻天的河涌做成了可以下水游玩的休息点，成为城市内的一个景点，珠江水也没有过去那么臭了，这钱花的值。

Wonderful progress
Although the environment has improved, the pollution in many places in Zhejiang Province is still very serious. The water in the Qiantang River is still very turbid and the air quality is still poor.
It showed very good result, when the local people and the government work together.
