- “When you drive past the structure right now, you see, the two abutment sides are up, the center piers are up,” said Ed Sniffen, Department of Transportation Director. “There’s wooden boxes lining the bridge itself, those box structures right now, those are the concrete forms.”

If this was Japan it would have taken a month to completely build this pedestrian bridge.
That’s why their shit is ass
Nope 1 day
This is Hawaii. Only stretching and counting. 👌
People in Makakilo need a second way out and protection from wildfires and these clowns are wasting their money on "nice to have projects". Thanks Ed !
If anywhere around there something like this should be at Atkinson and Ala Moana. But it would immediately become a homeIess refuge.
YES! I totally agree that homeless will take it over, and there really isn't a need for one. BUT, if there is an overpass to be built, then the Atkinson-Ala Moana intersection is where it should be! It would take care of foot traffic from the park as well as Waikiki to those intending to shop at AMSC. But you know, gotta take care of those wealthy condo owners so they can safely and illegally take their dogs for a walk in the park.
DATS 5-O JOB 2KEEP DA BRIDGE HEALTH & SAFE !!!
Ed Sniffen - The person responsible for the zipmobile gridlock years ago and also responsible to maintain the terrible runways at state airports. This guy still running the DOT. Amazing how things do not change.
So why are we not complaining about the state capitol water feature being a waste of money 30mil to redo cmon.
Will it be opened 24-7 or similar to Ala Moana Beach Park, open in the morning and closes at night? Asking for ALL my friends.
There will be no people to use it. Most of the apartments in the area are investment properties that sit empty.
Waste of tax dollars
they spent the whole 20 million on 1 walkway. why not use aluminum?
16 mil came from the feds, so actually 4 million for a walkway lol
Why cant we build a bridge where its needed like "Turtle Beach" going up North Shore
If you're talking about Laniakea they are already moving the road
There would be drawback from residents living up north shore saying that it’d be a “waste” up there too
Who did the engineering study? I’d like to see the reasoning warranting it’s construction. I don’t really ever see people crossing at ward.
I love the idea of this bridge living in Kakaako, However, I agree with everyone, it will be hit hard with homeless and graffiti in the months to come and people will avoid it.
There’s already graffitis on the borders surrounding the project.
I think if Hawaii had a proper required 4 week public driver's education as part of the school curriculum like other states have it would save many pedestrian lives and also prepare Hawaiian students to drive anywhere in the world. Hawaii isn't a dusty dirt road hamlet anymore. Honolulu is a huge city.
Watch what happens when RAIL closes in......then they must elevate the rail route higher at that area...
Rail goes through Queen St not Ala Moana
The rail isn’t going to be going down that street
Bridge sounds like a great plan on paper. But they underestimated the homeless situation in Hawaii. It’ll be infested with homeless soon pissing and shitting on the bridge.
Then they will close the walkway at night from 10pm-6am lol
Only benefit the rich peole that live there
I hate rich people…unless I win next week’s lotto. Then I would like them.
FYI: The only reason why this was built was because of the ultra luxury resort condo (with no affordable units) being built right next to it. Those rich people need easy, safe access to the park and would rather not see, smell or be around you plebs.
They funded part of it, of course it was built to benefit them. How this world works.
We should stop rich people from paying for good things. Just because they have money doesn’t mean they should be able to use it.
@@kk4649k No, federal money i.e you paid for it. They get to use it. They put it there for the better half to get to use it often, the poors wont use it, its too out of the way,
@@guslevy3506 They did not pay for it. you did.
@@null1808 skip to 1:55. they said private entities put in funding for design. Yes i know taxes went. But private money went in as well hence why it got pushed into reality.
Another waste of funds only benefiting future tourists of Victoria resort so they have easy access to beach.Fix H1 traffic problems first DOT🤦
And how would you suggest they do that, add another lane? Building more in town and allowing people to be able to walk and live near work would help with congestion, but building housing of any kind here is so taboo
I thought the second city in Kapolei was supposed to draw companies there and try to alleviate traffic? Looks like downtown businesses don’t want to move because most down town workers live in town, manoa and Hawaii Kai area
@@howzit9397Kapolei was supposed to be that, but development trended to more suburban, single family houses, meaning the demand for the office and commercial industry out there is low. A bulk of the traffic on the H1 is caused by people commuting from Ewa and Kapolei into town because a bulk of the jobs are in the urban core of Honolulu.
I mean when you get down to it the infrastructure is not adequate to handle the sheer volume of cars present. The only way to alleviate traffic is to move away from car dependency as the majority of peoples transportation.
I agree with all but my two cent comment is city/ state needs to listen up and focus Kapolei/Ewa too commercial office and business building structures NOT suckered to residential development. Town/ Honolulu needs to focus on low income housing NOT million dollar tourist out of state owed resorts us locals can't afford.🤦💁 Oahu is full of corruption let's admit it and make a change 😢😢🙏
In the Ala Moana/Kakaako area, there is so much foot and automotive traffic that congest the area. If anyone has been to Okinawa, there are elevated walkways to reduce the foot traffic at the road level in the commerce district.
City planning needs to align with all of the condo, developers and retailers in that area. Just a thought...
Wait s fvkn second, those are OBVI RAIL LINE PIECES BEING RETRO FITTED TO MAKE THE ELEVATED WALKWAY...was that always the plan and aren't these different depts & projects
channel two be reporting on the bridge soon.
Man, I gotta walk up to go cross the street. Nah, I save time on street level and cross the street.
Someone who’s never seen a pedestrian street crossing 💀
When it takes one percent of your effort to do a little incline walking 💀
How will people who use a cane, walker, wheelchair, or crutches access this bridge? Does it have an elevator? Is it ADA compliant?
A new tent city bridge
People living in the high rises going complaint too much people walking around and too much noise then going get open and close hours to walk over the bridge cause of crime etc.
This will be complete in September of 2030 🤣
Must be for somebody whose planning on moving into the new condo that being built. Definitely not for the people.
Yea or all the residents of the many condos they’re building across the street 💀 whether those residents are local residents is up to debate though
they could have done a pre fab unit off site and moved it in over night its done everywhere like that instead of this expensive waste of taxpayer money
Why not send that 20 mil. To the homeless homeowners of Lahaina. So they can rebuild & survive all of this craziness.
AT LEAST IT'S GON 2 SAVE LIFE WAT IT'S GON 2 SAVE LIFE Z IT'S WORTH IT HELLO
Where's the rain water drain out?
Lets see how long it will take for a truck with a high load to hit it causing damage to the walkway and close the road. They did it on the freeway multiple times so guarantee it's a accident waiting to happen.
Thought the hotel was paying for this not us tax payers
why make this one crosswalk "safer"? what about the other thousands of crosswalks across the island, don't they need to be elevated too?
These crooks politicians it’s all about tourist. More worse they built before where exactly needed. It should be more down where more people cross over to Alamoana beach park.
Don't give the State/City more ideas to construct anything
MAHALO PLENTY DA RODRIGUES OHANA
Much needed.
Dis State no can waste of money
.
Good idea.
Nice
Another rail investment.
Oh…forgot to mention….be wary of one inconvenience….it may attract the houseless. So I strongly suggest to place signs outside and inside the structures about converting the path into their campgrounds or blocking the path. It’s vital you set up an ORDINANCE for it to SECURE its safety and its intended purpose. 🫶😇
Build a bridge across ala Wai
There are plans to, but people are opposing it saying it’s not needed either
Yay! A pedestrian bridge! (I’m not there yet on the island…still waiting to leave to my surrogate island. The Biden Administration hasn’t budged knowingly how much I’m owed). But honestly, it is a great idea. It takes three flow of waiting for lights to turn or areas to reach after long walks (in that area). May be a plus for events nearby (breaking up pedestrian building up at crosswalk. There are useful features like public announcements, a day of honoring, a greeting to get your day going. Be CREATIVE with a structure that can SERVE A DUAL PURPOSE! Great job guys! It may look stressful now…but the finished product can be rewarding. 👏👏👏💐🏆🫶😇. MAHALO!
