We just learned that we have a therapist in our small town. And as soon as she gets her insurances figured out, my husband has agreed to go to deal with some anxiety.
What a strong, brave woman. I’m in awe of her. As the oldest of 3 boys with divorced parents who are alcoholics, so much of this I can relate to. I’m the one in my family fighting to break the cycle for my brothers and our future children. It’s not easy work and I commend her for being so open & vulnerable. For many years I have felt alone in my trauma but the beautiful thing about social media is the platform it has given others to share their experiences and help others not feel alone and how to get help.❤
People don't understand that families/friends can do everything right, and it still won't make a difference. Sometimes, loved ones have to make the hard choice to love from a distance. Most will be there if & when the addict/alcoholic is ready to seek help. It's a monster disease that impacts not just the addict/alcoholic, but loved ones too. More empathy, less judgment.
17:47 💯💯 Angel it takes at least a year for the brain chemistry to get back to normal after addiction. I'm glad Angel did this interview, i have so much more respect for her now.
idk if its just the emotional pain of what happened to her siblings, but she really looks like she's masking her actual mental state. its her eyes and the forced expressions. nerves maybe? anxiety disorder? or an inner trauma that still isn't healed? mute the audio and just watch her talk for a minute or two and you'll see what I'm saying. she kinda looks.. controlling or "witchy"? that family... I honestly wonder if they were dabbling in some kind of occult or ritualistic practice.
This is so REAL!!! Thank you thank you! I understand it so much… Glad to know my feelings on mental and drug abuse in your family is tough and real. So hard & sad. ❤️💔❤️💔

She should have been doing podcast telling the story before his passing. That would have saved his life becauhe had an ego. And If it was damaged like that and it was fully brought out brought to the surface of what he was doing that would've made him. Go get the help that he needed. Because he cared so much about what people thought about him. You could tell so they should have been telling the story before his passing. And they probably could have saved his life by publicly shaming him. And bringing it all to the surface out in the public. Eye guaranteed that ego damage would have made him go get the help he needed.
You have zero fucking clue of anything. They caused him so much pain that them doing that could have ended this sooner. Sit this the fuck out. They got what they wanted.
Angel is so smart and thoughtful. One thing that stuck out for me was when she said people need to be sober for at least a year before being diagnosed with mental disorders. So many mental disorders are drug-induced.
One thing that drugs will cover up is like Autism I think. Never accepted how socially inept I was until I realized I was using weed as a social crutch
I think about the Carter family all the time. I grew up listening to Aaron and The Backstreet Boys. I watched House of Carter in the 2000's thinking it was just funny drama but looking back knowing 3 of those siblings died young because they were struggling with addiction or mental health issues, its obvious they had a very difficult childhood.
Angel doesn’t owe anyone on social media an explanation on how she helped her twin. She did everything she could, as did others who loved him, but Aaron did what Aaron wanted. She’s so strong & has an important story to tell.
No, she definitely doesn't. Still, there are so many out there that think she does. Even if she did they wouldn't believe her...their minds are already made up and nothing she says or does will ever change that 😞
@char_bsb I kinda feel like a lot of those fans of his that act like that have not lived with such a close loved one who not only was using drugs but have mental illness issues they don't want to get help for. Everyone has their limits and wish his fans could see they did everything they could but couldn't put themselves or their kids in any more danger or the anguish of trying to help someone who was not ready to get help
you're right! people who expected her and Nick to help Leslie, Aaron or BJ have zero clue about addiction. you can help them all you want, drive them to rehab every time. chain them to a bed a force them to get clean....but it won't stick unless they are ready to get clean, otherwise its a constant battle. and even when they choose to get clean....they need to be taught coping mechanisms so they don't go back to addiction
Their childhood wasn't easy. Nick and Aaron were marketed. Instead of love, care and protection, the focus was on money. Aaron couldn't cope with it all. He didn't get what a child his age deserved. All the other children had to walk alongside. The story of the Carter family is tragic. Thank you Angel for going public and standing up for mental health. You are a strong woman and you should be proud of yourself!
Been a fan of Aaron since 1999 and also BSB. I’m so incredibly proud of Angel turning her pain into purpose. She has such a calming presence. Thanks for a great episode Tay & Tay ❤️.
@@meganmanship4012 Someone who knew, cared about, & worked alongside Aaron where I had to see all those people plus more all fail him time & time again. Who are you?
"He didn't wanna hear that from me, he wanted to hear that from our mom and dad" hit me so hard. You really can tell that she HAS done the work, at SO many points in this interview. It can be so hard to maintain compassion, growing up in a toxic family, seeing such awful things happen to and from the family you LOVE. But she seems to have made it out the other side with her heart still intact and I respect it
What is devastatingly sad is Angel’s story is not unique. Mental health help is not easily accessible for many people but you know what is? Drugs and alcohol. Especially if you have a family history of addiction it is so easy to slip and fall. The work Angel is doing is so important. Instilling mental wealth at a young age is KEY!
Thank you for being so open and honest, Angel. Some people on social media are just horrible 😢 I will NEVER stop defending you and Nick on social media. I just know in my heart that you are both amazing and genuinely caring people. ❤
Thank you, Angel. You filled in so many gaps. Aaron stan, my literal #1, since 1999 and those last few years were seriously difficult to watch. He blocked me once because he misunderstood me, but I didn't blame him too much because he dealt with so much hate online. I miss him so much. I miss his spirit. I know you don't hate your mom, but I'll happily do it for all of you. I'm glad your dad apologized but I do not understand, as a mother, how you can fail so many humans you are responsible for. All Aaron ever wanted was love. I think of him every day because he truly deserved better and the chance to redeem himself. He was an amazing person but the drugs ruined him. 😢
I greatly admire Angel & Nick, it is difficult to survive in all the chaos possible and still get up every day and give a better version of themselves and contribute to other families and children receiving therapy and that you cannot judge others without having put yourself in their shoes.
Hi there! I'm a former Aaronator and i just wanna say that I LOVE this epsiode and i LOVE Angel, This has giving me a whole new perspective and i am so deeply touched by Angel's encouragement. The world was so unkind to Aaron (especially on Instagram Live) is because of that the world needs more kindness because Aaron was a kind guy and he got unkindness thrown back at him. I STAND WITH ANGEL!!! i even contacted her because i would like to remember Aaron in kindness and in love but most importantly in love.
Omg this made my heart hurt even more for Angel and Nick. No one should have to go through this kind of pain. Angel is a strong, beautiful wise soul ❤😢 I hope and pray that Leslie, Aaron and BJ's souls have finally found the peace they couldn't find when they were on earth. 💔🕊️
LOL Nick is happy Aaron is dead. I do feel bad for Angel, and only Angel. Even she is probably secretly a bit relieved though as her husband hated Aaron and it makes their marriage easier he is dead as well.
@@frankiedelgadoesAnd sadly, both of them didn’t have a close relationship with any of their dead siblings. That is what hurts me the most is the siblings I know are gone, the ones that I didn’t get to know due to their estranged relationships are still here. And the way the estranged ones treated my friends is appalling & now they can paint their own narrative with no basis on reality.
@@Fireteam2479 Agreed. And don't think you think Corey Conrad and Lauren Kitt Carter were a big part of turning Angel and Nick, their spouses, against Aaron as well. And even against BJ. And in Lauren's case against Leslie too (Corey only came into the picture a bit before Leslie died so won't blame him for her). I call that clique the snob 4, they think they are above the others in that family. Corey sends thousands of dollars to his deadbeat brother Kyle every month so he doesn't have to work and can pursue his fantasy of being a Disney animator which will never happen. But refused to let Angel send anything to Aaron even when Angel wanted to, saying she was "enabling" Aaron. Lauren has her drunk father and various cousins live for free in their house, while sending members of her sisters family Nick's money. Nick and Angel are still at fault too as they should have stood up to their spouses in this instance.
Why doesn’t she talk about Lauren Kitt Carter paying Ganval to harass Aaron? Nicks wife enabled the hacker and swatter. But they did everything they could to help him? SMH 🤦♀️
@@frankiedelgadoes That plus one missing piece, Aaron’s ex who pulled a knife on him & had a restraining order put on her a month prior to her getting one from them put on him.
Wow this was an amazing episode. I feel like u guys asked the hard questions so respectfully. My heart goes out to Angel, she has been thru so much bad things, yet has such a positive way on looking at life. She is a beautiful soul. I can tell she must be a wonderful mother.
@12:45 The first time I met Aaron was when he was 15 and bless him he was so cheery and happy and carried on with the Jukebox Tour throughout this summer months. When really he should of been in therapy and had time out from work 😢
I love that she came out and said the truth behind the scenes. She is very strong. The media loves to play a role in exploiting and that didn’t help at all.
@@Fireteam2479 and you know this how? Media was already creating rumors that Nick or his family, was not there for his brother. And us, the people who are not in that family to have known what goes on behind the scenes, cannot keep making these assumptions. Not everything about their lives is shared nor do we have to even know about it. But the fact that she came out and did say they tried to help him, she didn’t even need to do that! But I’m glad she did in the end. Her decision to speak out about something so personal.
@@rubaraad90 You don’t know who I was to Aaron. But I know a hell of a lot more than you apparently. It’s not assumption. Media created the bullshit lie they WERE there. People actually in his life (because they were NOT) know better.
@@Fireteam2479 You made an assumption as if I even knew you were close to Aaron, you never even mentioned anything of some sort of relation to him such as friend or anything else to him to begin with. At the end of the day, you’re right, I don’t know anything about Aaron’s life and what the last three years may have been like for him. But there’s no harm also in giving his family some praise for even speaking out on what their lives have been like in general. That’s all I have to say because to go back and forth won’t change what has already occurred. I’d rather advocate for mental health,as his own sister is doing now instead of arguing. Thanks for your response and since you’re saying you knew Aaron, my condolences and wish nothing but the best! I truly wish things would have been different because I grew up absolutely loving his music and watching him on TV. I especially loved re-playing the theme song to Liberty Kids because I knew he was singing it! Have a goodnight!
@@rubaraad90 I didn’t assume. It wasn’t a question if you knew me. It was a statement that you didn’t know. That being said, this PR campaign & “mental health” campaign is not going to the right places or coming from the right place either. I’ve spoke my piece more times than I can count but Angel & Nick are not genuine with what they are doing & that’s really upsetting to people who actually lived more a life with Aaron than they did. All I’ll say & leave it at that.
There childhoods were taken away from them. I remember on disney summer concert featuring bsb nick said i never had a chance to go to high-school. I feel so bad f I r nick and angel. I hate to say this but their mom got karma! She did them dirty! No childhood, steaping money etc. She should've thought of consequences
I disagree with some things she said. First, I agree addiction can fuel psychosis and mental health but it ALSO is a way for people with mental illness to self-medicate. Also, I don’t think addicts understand the “risk” of their choices, in the moment. It’s mostly just trying to survive physically and to run away mentally. And before you realize it you have no control! Aaron needed unconditional love from the people he always felt like it was conditional… ie his parents. I wouldn’t wish an addiction on my worst enemy 😢
Thank you Angel for everything youve done for your brother and for Prince. You are appreciated by the real ones. Take care of yourself too. You are such a strong and admirable woman.
Great episode! Angel is so such a beautiful soul. I do wish they went a bit further into the sexual abuse on anything Angel could have been comfortable with sharing. I know Aaron was accusing Leslie of abuse...what are Angel's thoughts about that? Were these people from the entertainment industry that hurt Aaron and Angel? Is there anything Angel wants to do to hold these people accountable? That is maybe one of the biggest things that haunted Aaron and there should probably be a deeper discussion about this.
I know for a fact I lived with family that has mental health issues but I broke that cycle it's hard but my remedy now as a mom wife is putting God first therapy and surrounding yourself with healthy relationships
I was thinking the other day, I've learned a lot about myself since I started listening to The Squeeze. For example, some things I need to do for my mental health, like going for walks and cleaning (I'm not the only one lol). If I need to clear my head, I'm realising how important those things are for me. The Squeeze podcast has become a sort of therapy for me. 🥰
Angel you should not have to explain what you tried to do for Aaron, but I thank you for speaking out about mental health and especially kids mental health. ❤❤❤ You are so very strong and I still believe you are the Angel on earth who is speaking for the angels in heaven (your family members and others,) who are proudly looking over you and so thankful for you talking about this too. Sending so much love to you and your family ❤❤❤
R.I.P Aaron Carter 1987 2022 He's the best singer but I do love him when he was 12 years old. Aaron's Party Come Get It is my favorite song memories. I'm so sorry for the loss.
Thank you so much for bringing Angel to this platform. I'm so proud of her for being able to share her journey with us. It's so important for everyone to hear her perspective.
I remember the day he passed 😭 I was bawling in my car. I felt by his social media at the time that something bad was going to happen to him. Rest in peace.
I'm so proud of her. the amount pain she must feel re-living these moments over and over as she tells her stories and works to make big changes in how we handle kids' mental health. she's a very brave and caring soul.
Angel you are amazing and so inspirational. You are strong, kind, caring, supportive and loving. That is so evident. Even through all the unimaginable chaos and grief. Thank you for sharing your story and enlightening us all. ❤❤❤❤
@45:25 Aaron was being super unstable on one of the insta lives I tuned into on his way to perform a show in Florida with no sleep and bragging about all his guns in the trunk. I called local police on him with my concerns and they pulled him over within minutes on the free way. They told me after that they couldn’t do anything because he wasn’t doing anything illegal :/
Wow!!! 😢 what a powerful testimony! I'm sorry for the pain, thank you for sharing this personal family truth!!! This is so many people's life!!! Let's talk more about our inner self! How are we doing inside? Write a book!!!
I always knew that Angel is the wiser and mature one since the House of Carters era. I love how she took the role as the peacemaker, always hugged it out and handled things well. Love to see the woman she has become now and I hope that Nick and her keep their relationship close and always be there for each other. The story is heartbreaking yet inspiring for us all especially the ones who are going through similar things. She's such a strong and inspiring human being.
I agree, even though you noticed on H.o.C. how immature she still was back then. I think she and Aaron were only like 18 or so. Miles from the person we see today. ❤
I just watched the podcast angel, you are a beautiful caring person and very knowledgeable, God bless you and your family and Nick and his family and also your mother Jane. You have all been through a lot stay strong
Am i the only one noticing the podcasters responses are "thats crazy" a bunch of times to her family history when shes talking about mental health issues.... this isnt 1999 its not ok 😢 Or are they trying to be funny ?!? (1st time watching this podcast just tuned in for Angel )
This is my first time listening to this podcast. The women interviewing was extremely difficult to listen to and really had very little to add to the conversation. When she asked Angel what was there hardest thing mentally she ever had to deal with, Angels face and response was exactly what I was thinking. Angel it’s been amazing to watch you open up and tell your families story. As someone who grew up listening to both Aaron and the Backstreet Boys , we all feel like we have been apart of your family . Breaks my heart to see all that you all have had to go thru while we seemingly had no idea. It’s truly beautiful how you have turned all of this into such a positive legacy to it all.
Wow! Angel you are such a strong woman and so glad that you have been able to help yourself to get out of the generational cycle within your family. What a great example you are setting for your children and others. Thank you for sharing.
Anyone who says Angel and Nick didn't do anything or care about Aaron really need to watch this interview. It makes my blood boil to read comments like they knew what happened behind closed doors. I remember seeing pics of aaron with beer on yahoo groups(shows how old i am since aaron was a year older than me). I always knew it had to start off very young. It's not easy when someone has mental issues..i have family members who have this on my mother's side. My own mother has it. Taylor said it best..there's only so much you can do for someone.
@@tattoofixerstattoosExactly. Aaron left Betty Ford where Nick did send him correctly & Nick was nowhere to even be thanked. It helped Aaron but these two the last few years of his life are a big reason of his downfall. No matter how they spin it.
@@Fireteam2479 Shitty brother Nick was. That must have broke Aaron's heart. He loved Nick so much. Angel's husband also treated him like shit. Did you ever hear about the McGregor fight where Aaron begged to go with them but they went without him anyway, and brought AJ with them instead.
Ugh I am so interested in her story but my OCD is in full swing today and all I can hear is “YOU KNOW”… sigh I stopped counting at 100 😫 Oh my gosh this interview 1:01:20 - 1:02:43 the host said “like” 21 TWENTY ONE times….. in a single minute. The man host, I can barely put into words how he said 6 sentences and all 6 made no sense and contributed nothing to the discussion. He just said words to say words????? I’m sooooo confused. I’m sorry this episode is NOT it. I listened for 1 & 1/2 hours, to count words and loose brain cells.
Angel is such an honorable human being.... that'd right one can only help themselves... mental health is sooooo important. Espeicslly now a days with kids and teens being in social media 24/7, it can be the worst ever sometimes.... angel deserves happiness and closure and forgiveness.... she is literally am inspiration. I used to work alongside addicts and I can relate to her so much towards others who I have heard stories from being in sober living homes and rehab facilities. This episode is so tragic but can also being so helpful for others struggling out there
She is so gorgeous!! She’s also so wonderful to hear, but my goodness, I’d never seen her, and I’ve always heard the media talk about her, but I’m happy to finally see her speak.
For some reason I feel related to Angel situation with my biological mother because she was diagnosed with schizophrenia. And I had like ants and Knuckles trying to take care of her until she went to a group home before she died. People that been diagnosed with schizophrenia it's just I feel for her and there is nothing you can do about it the one thing I learned about is that there's so much you can do about saving people you can only save yourself and maybe the people around you but it's just a very difficult subject and I just I pray for Angel and for Nick because mental health is such it's crazy
Nick gets a bad rap due to that reality show and his mom talking so much crap about him. Now these allegations they use that time against him and his sister who barely speaks publicly is explaining how Nick been helping behind the scenes
Yeah it’s obvious he had no connection with any of them…. Why would ppl expect him to be grieving like a normal person…he literally took himself out of the equation long ago….
People that have the nerve to say her or Nick didn't try to help their family.....really. I grew up watching the downfall of Aaron and even Leslie. It was heartbreaking. I watched the videos of Aaron, out of his mind. You can tell she loves her brother, and she loves the happy memories and unfortunately his memory will be forever tarnished. It is sad. She may never read this or see but Angel, Aaron would be so proud of you. He knew you loved and cared for him, he just couldn't let go of the person he turned into. God Bless!
When you’re addictive personality and metal health issues you have to want it get help. I am super proud of Angel and Nick. He did not have to offer to pay for counseling. I wish that whole family would’ve gone. Counseling would’ve been a better outcome, but the most important thing the person has to want to accept the help and and do the work. I am super worried for Aaron Carter’s son and all the children and the Carter family. The offspring needs to be very careful when it comes to drugs and knowing that there is addictive personalities and mental health issues that play a big role.
That you for sharing her story on your platform. Also thank you to Angel for having the courage to speak about everything. I was a die hard Aaron Carter fan and his passing was so hard for me. I still play his music and keep his spirit alive as much as I can. It is scary to see his entire life be just used and exploited. You can see now in so many interviews over his childhood that he didn’t want to be apart of this anymore. He did it to get close to his brother. He just wanted his brother with him and close and he did whatever he could to get close to him. His parents didn’t protect him and I’m so sad for him and for all of his siblings.
Wow this was so powerful. So much of this resonated with me and made so much sense having had addiction issues in my past and also in my family. 100 percent agree it goes back to things that have happened in your childhood alot of the time....i know with me personally i just wanted to numb myself and get a break from the trauma... thankfully i got through it and found healthier ways but not everyone can do that sadly. Angel i want to commend you on speaking out i honestly think you could help so many people with the wisdom you have from your experiences. You are one strong lady. And yes you do have to set boundaries as hard as that is sometimes... Its same with my mum also. I needed to hear this today so thank you so much.
Love her and honestly I watched Aaron for years. The actual lives and his videos real time and it was so sad how everyone enabled him. It was so sad and he was not innocent by any means. He was cruel and d narcissistic so he’s so different than her! She’s her name!! Angel. She ❤❤ is so nice!!
This resonates with me so much. I watched my husband from a distance destroy his life and ultimately giving up and passing 4 years ago. It breaks your heart into a million pieces. You can only help them if they want the help. I had to break from him because i couldnt enable him anymore. Its the worst position for a family memeber to be put in and it sucks. Mental health and addiction go hand in hand.
What is up with this dude 😂 his replies to the person being interviewed are so awkward and dense. Almost like he doesnt even know what to respond. What a clown! I see why he got dumped many times before.

you're right! people who expected her and Nick to help Leslie, Aaron or BJ have zero clue about addiction. you can help them all you want, drive them to rehab every time. chain them to a bed a force them to get clean....but it won't stick unless they are ready to get clean, otherwise its a constant battle. and even when they choose to get clean....they need to be taught coping mechanisms so they don't go back to addiction
Thanks for a great episode Tay & Tay ❤️.
turning pain into purpose is a beautiful way to word it. thank you for that. wow.

But she seems to have made it out the other side with her heart still intact and I respect it
Nick and Angel love their sibling & that fact that anyone has ever doubted that is insane to me 😢

@12:45 The first time I met Aaron was when he was 15 and bless him he was so cheery and happy and carried on with the Jukebox Tour throughout this summer months. When really he should of been in therapy and had time out from work 😢
Angel, you are actually a real life superhero, a Cycle Breaker.
I love that she came out and said the truth behind the scenes. She is very strong. The media loves to play a role in exploiting and that didn’t help at all.
She did not, because she was not there to know the last 3 years especially.
I wouldn’t wish an addiction on my worst enemy 😢
shut up crazy girl
My first concert was Aaron Carter 💔
I understand wanting to know, but it's none of our business.

@45:25 Aaron was being super unstable on one of the insta lives I tuned into on his way to perform a show in Florida with no sleep and bragging about all his guns in the trunk.

She is a true gem. God Bless her and her family.

Angel speaks the truth, the awful documentary about Nick and Aaron was so twisted.
