Im a new hunter with two years in behind me. I had someone I know teach me and this year im on my own. I’ve been trying to find this exact information. This was perfect. Thank you for the relevant info without all the self praise. Good luck this year. Hope you get the buck of a lifetime this year.
Some properties may be almost impossible to hunt at certain times of day or maybe never, because there may be no way to approach a stand location without getting busted. I have hunted public and multiple private properties. One particular private parcel was a giant crop field with just a few small wood lots. Trail cams showed giant bucks using the property, but almost exclusively at night. I hunted the property off and on for 6 years and NEVER killed a single buck there. There was just no way to get in or out of the property, regardless of what time of day without alerting deer to my presence. Sometimes you just have to abandon a property like that and move on to a more huntable location, or the only trophies you will get will be on trail cams at 1 a.m. in the morning.
My dad taught me this lesson last season. He didn't think our stand locations were quite right given how deer were moving. He took a trench shovel and flattened a spot on a hill overlooking a corridor further away from food and xloser to cover and killed a great buck. Don't be too proud to get down and dirty and make something happen.
Gods creation provides so much if we just take time to seek out the wonders that are right in front of us. Thank you Daniel for sharing.
