Is Toyota Glanza the Better Maruti Suzuki Baleno?

  • The Toyota Glanza is the Maruti Suzuki Baleno's, er, sister. But this time, it isn't a one-to-one. Toyota's influence is obvious in its design now, but there are subtle and meaningful touches too. And while the feature list is solid, a lot of packaging has gone in to ensure that the Glanza is a sweet car to drive, but with a price under Rs 10 lakh. And while some of it doesn't make sense, Kartikeya Singhee thinks, there's a bigger reason why that is going to be revealed to us later.

    The one thing that would make me absolutely want the Glanza - the new Prius-esque design for the whole car! Not just one part of it. I’d pick the manual. Also - a turbo Glanza with a better automatic ala Fronx isn’t going to be too far away. What do you want?
    - Kartikeya

      They could resurrect the Baleno RS badge or introduce a Glanza TRD trim with the 1.0L turbo. And imho, the Toyota Starlet, which is the name of the car in the African market, is a much better name than Glanza.

      Is why I buy used, they cost more to own and run maybe but for a decent price you get a car from an era where they made cars for people who liked them rather this appliance like approach they have today. With the death of the polo there aren’t any cars out there today which even tickle the enthusiasts.

    I had booked the Baleno but waited for the Glanza to launch. And the day it got launched, it looked amazing and far better than the Baleno. The next day cancelled the booking of Baleno and got the Glanza. It's been 8+ months since I have been driving it and it is just a pleasure to drive it. In the place where I live, I am getting a Milage of 17-18 in the city and 22+ on Highway. The Pickup is good. The AC works very well even at the highest point it feels like it's just chilling you down. It has got plenty of space for 5 people to sit comfortably and also if you have 6 people sitting in the car.

      Could you elaborate on your own reasons for choosing glanza over baleno..?

    • @KetanHonagekar
      @KetanHonagekar 4 месяца назад

      @@rashinottath7295 Below are my reasons for choosing Glanza over Baleno.
      1. Service - Maruti has many car models and too many customers. So the service is better in Toyota and it is cheaper than Maruti. (Depends on the area where you stay)
      2 . Looks - I like the way Glanza looks from the front side. It looks more like a Baby Camry.
      3. Interior - Dark Blue/Black tone colour makes the cabin feel smaller whereas on the other hand, the dual tone in Glanza makes it feel more airy and spacy.
      4. I would love to have a Toyota badge over Suzuki. (Personal Opinion).
      I suggest you visit both the showrooms, check their service station, how they service their cars, and how they treat the customer. Also, could you speak with the customers who have come for service to get ground lever feedback, how much time do they use for servicing each car?

    • @KetanHonagekar
      @KetanHonagekar 4 месяца назад

      @@rashinottath7295
      So the reasons why I choose Glanza over Baleno are:
      1. Looks - I feel Glanza looks better than Baleno. Many have said that it looks like a mini Camry.
      2. Interior - The dual-tone interior looks more premium than the dark blue-black in Baleno.
      3. Service - As Maruti has many car models getting sold every minute, there is a high chance that the service centres are packed with many cars daily. So mechanics may not give full attention to your car. On the other hand, based on my experience Toyota's service is much smoother and better. They check for every small issue and solve it.
      4. Trust - We know that Glanza is nothing but the same Baleno within. But I would rather have a Toyota badge on my car than Suzuki.
      So these are my reasons. I hope it will help you make the right decision.

I understand though automatics have convenience in city stop and go traffic but I just feel that sometime Kartikeya sir talks more about automatics it's not a complaint just what I feel, the manual seems more engaging and fun although yes it's not as convenient as an automatic in city traffic but hey fun does come at a cost. Toyota and Maruti had an amazing opportunity with the Fronx to bring hybrids to the masses and differentiate the car from the Baleno. Have the turbo for the petrolheads and the NA 1.2 hybrid on the Fronx.

      @@rashinottath7295 its similar to baleno with quality of service and “what is necessary” is considered by Toyota (this can vary based on service centre).
      Parts availability is good but pls consider one thing if you are expecting to take the top model “V” steering and installed in below variants then that’s tough in Toyota. These folks work 1:1 basis, when I say this you have Glanza G model and get a top model steering then they will question you why. You will get all the stuff you want it for G model parts for sure.
      I believe this is what quality is according to me. You need these kind of flexibility I believe that is available at Suzuki and in local market as well.
      Conclusion- you are person who wants an upgrade from base model with genuine parts then stick with Suzuki (eg base model with genuine arm rest).
      Consider Toyota if you are happy with the things that has been provided and you rely on aftermarket stuffs (suzuki baleno’s arm rest from local store but genuine one)
      Toyota will make sure you will have all the parts which are relevant. There might be delay as one factory is catering two major giants for producing the same product so be mindful about that.

      Hey Dilip! Thank you so much! That is a great question! The Amaze has the smoother automatic and the better driving experience because of it. It’s much larger boot will also be a big help for long trips. Aside from that - the Baleno would be a better pick for- the engine (performance and fuel efficiency), the comfort (suspension) and it’s feature list. We do not think the AMT is a deal breaker. Also, the advantage of service and resale. So, what are your needs? Would be happy to answer anything else.

      I too had a similar question. The sales of the Balenos have come down post launch of Fronx. I went to look out for the Fronx but the sales team of Nexa were pressurized to push the sales of stagnant Balenos to the customers by offering around 40 to 45k discount on the Balenos. On road price of Baleno Zeta model was 1030000 ₹ and they were offering me to take it on 990000 ₹. Is this a good deal? Considering the resale value of Baleno with 6 airbags alloy wheels I am thinking to go with the Baleno rather going for the compact sedan amaze. Please advise if this is a 2ise decision.

      Certainly, I'm originally from the NCR (National Capital Region) and have been traveling by motorbike and car for the past 12 years. In November, I purchased a manual Glanza, and since then, I've been thoroughly enjoying riding it. However, when I traveled to Pathankot in March, I encountered some issues with ground clearance and power. Over the past 11 years, I've gained driving experience and currently also own a Hyundai Santro, having driven numerous other cars as well. From Pathankot, we proceeded to Dalhousie and Khajjiar, where the mountainous terrain and roads are exceptionally steep. Despite the pleasant weather and not using the air conditioning, I couldn't help but notice the car's lack of power and poor ground clearance. Even with only three average-sized individuals in the car, it seemed to struggle.

      @@motorinc I remember going on a car test drive spree with a neighbour who wanted to purchase a mid sized SUV. I, being an automobile lover, trust Toyota for its "QDR" and believe Hyryder also carries the Toyota legacy. Going there, we were told that Hyryder has a 20 month waiting. For this neighbour, Maruti is a big No. So I suggested him to check out Glanza once instead of following the unnecessary rat race of having a SUV. Suddenly, the sales team got disappointed in us. 3 Toyota showrooms later it was confirmed that people seeking Glanza are not considered as Toyota's core customer persona. But this neighbour insisted on getting the Glanza, I managed to talk to a Glanza owner (arbitrarily found roadside). He shared a similar cold sales experience for the Glanza combined with very cold service. Similarly, one more Glanza owner in my society confirmed that Toyota service tends to prioritise Fortuner and Innova service first. All this was finally confirmed by a Toyota service guy (unofficially, ofcourse!) that somehow Toyota sales and service believes Glanza to be burden on them. Now either it is a coincidence or the 4 Glanza owners I have talked to till date have the exact same frustration.
