This is a cool idea if you really want to place your personal base in that zone. But honestly, we just took one over and I don't know what to do with it. My team of four people each has their own personal base in different zones. And we just build portals all over for everything. We actually made a stable small base where we beached our ship when we hit the Ashlands. It suits our purposes just fine. We port in and then either hop the walls to go exploring or use another portal to port into this new fort we just conquered. I figure we'll just establish portals wherever we conquer and just use them to get around so that we can bypass the mobs. Then we take everything back home to our home zones. At least those don't have the constant maintenance of putting bones in the shield generators.
Thanks for the comment! In my personal gameplay I've got small outpost on the shore of Ashlands and big main base on the border of 4 other biomes. Outpost is definitely not safe, but it serves it's purpose to be portal place.
First I removed one corner, then I made a transition from the floor to the wall, then I removed some of the soil and put supports in the places where the floor meets. You can stop the video in the places you are interested in and watch carefully how everything is arranged there.
it's so strange to see large amounts of people on the subreddit refuse to use these fortresses as their base because they think it's cheesy. i never knew people placed such arbitrary restrictions on themselves when playing games, even to the point of struggling mightily. i just turn on the game and play it.
Thank you for your comment! I can't actually tell you how many resources were spent on building the base. It was built on a separate map in creative mode. Very nice design. I'm not quite there yet but enjoying the game as usual. The only thing that I wonder about is fallen Valkyries. Do your cross bolts take care of them before they damage them?
@@AdventurestGamingThat's what I thought. That's the only annoying part, otherwise very smart strategy. I'm going to be using the same strategy but probably don't have your design abilities so I'm envious. 😂
@@AdventurestGamingyou seem to use the Flametal beam as a temporary guide is that correct? I'm working on the flat roof like you did but having some trouble getting enough support to go all the way across
Flametal beam and regular Metal beam are the same in terms of structural support. Also, don't forget that the two outer stone structures will support what is between them. That is, start building from the edges, then fill the central part, and only then the space that is between the center and the edge.
I just uploaded my tree house base and was wondering if anyone knew if the ashlands raids would burn it down? I have raids turned off for this reason. The tree house is too high up for enemies to aggro but at specific bottom base locations Im not sure what to expect from the ashland enemies. If they use a fire attack does it catch on to the rest of the base? Awesome video btw
I wouldn't risk my tree base if I were you. Playing the game with raids, especially on a high difficulty level, requires a special approach to building. I'm so glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for your comment!
Check out my video about Fire Hazard. There is a section about Smoke mechanics - ruclips.net/video/FTloH7k-fgs/видео.html In two words I made hidden wall behind the stairs. There is plenty of space for smoke to go.
I use a false wall that goes behind the stairs and goes all the way to the blacksmith's benches. The mechanics of the smoke are such that you don't have to blow it upward. It is enough just to give him space so that he can disperse. Approximately 12-14 meters are required.
@@AdventurestGaming it can also be vented horizontally, from a 45 degree slope to even, i did this for an old tower base i made so i could have my cauldron in the center without smoking up the higher floors. Enclosed it too so it looks nice.
Try the same place as it was in the video. Also recheck twise if there any gap between the wall and the floor piece. I've had some problems with gaps but I was able to solve them with Flametal beams.
The layer of stone floors where you placed the shield generators. I can build one line of the floors and the second one is already red. How do you support them? Ty for your reply
I started by snaping it to the corners of the fortress walls. You can see it on the video. Then continue around the outer line. Some times there are small gaps between the wall and the floor. Then you need to support these places with metal beams just a little bit. Then you have to follow the rule of stone structures. Two outer pieces will support the one between them. So you need to aling and build inner part ( the tower one ) and only after you can fill the middle of the structure.
LOL, I'm so doing this. I made a base out of the final mistlands boss tower and it rocked. Can also use a hoe and raise the ground to climb over wall without destroying anything.
It might just be me not understanding but you never said why you only destroyed the outer gates not the inner gates? You never came back to that subject. So i was a little lost. But i destroyed all gates. Is that the right thing to do?
Thank you very much for your comment! We are not breaking the inner gates in order to preserve the integrity of the central tower. It is more a question of aesthetics. Just like I decided to leave the green glow inside the tower.
Impressive. But I'm getting tired of raid events... I was thinking to turn it off and make esthetic builds, livestock, gardens, etc. without worrying it may destroyed soon... I know it may sounds boring but... Just to play it different
I dug a huge moat around my main base. It's basically a fortified island in the black forest now. So far, only the bat and Drake raids have been able to reach it, but they're pretty easy to manage
@@TheGolferguy71 I do build something cool, Or at least just for me lol. But with my 600+ hrs of gameplay, finished the game 5 times with solo and friends on normal and hard settings. Then I decided to build aesthetic build. Boring and lame I agree but like I said, just to play different. 😀
I'm very sorry to hear that. In my case, it was the second fortress. I made the first one for testing, and I filmed the video in the second fortress. Thank you very much for your comment! I wish you good luck in finding the perfect location!
You dont have to destroy the front wall. All you need is to raise ground next to fortress and jump into it. Its actuly a good strategy. Raise ground (bring a lot of stone) --- enogh so you can stand on easy and wall it araund to protect yourself from balistas. Then snipe the enemy summoner boss inside base. After you are done, run araund base and smash with hammer (outside) to kill spawned army of skeletons inside).
getting there sucks , lol you'll need to clear spawners and collect the new materials to build anything to break into the fortress. then you need to find molten cores so you can portal over to make a stone cutter because there is no iron to be found. it takes forever but doable nice video.
You can find Iron ingots in the pots around the map to build stone cutter. You can also raise up the ground or build some near the walls to get inside. Thank you very much for the comment!
some cool ideas but there is no need to ram the outer gate and flametal pillars dont give any more stability than regular grauston (or wood iron iirc).
I`m trying this, but any structure i would like to place on that grausten floor instantly gets destroyed. only on the ground can structures be placed. any idea why ?
You need to force the floor. Lay the basement floor on raised ground. Be sure that second floor touches the walls and force some places where you want to build heavy peaces with Iron or Flametal beams.
I just did this last night. It’s not permanent because I destroyed the center tower, but I still wanted a safe fortress in Ashlands (I’m not as good at the game as some, so it’s the first one I was able to tackle successfully). I had to use grausten pillars at the bedrock level for the basement to get everything to stay structural, I’ll probably swap to flametal when I get extra. My main floor seems fine for all my crafting stations, hearths, etc. The top deck (exposed level) is turning into a castle all on its own. I may end up with a 4-level by the time I’m done. But I had no issues with things breaking, and even the grausten floor tiles stuck directly to the outter walls at the stairs. It’s a thing of beauty.
Thank you very much for your comment! I can't even imagine how this can be done. It's a pretty simple build. I'm absolutely sure you can make it even better!
@@AdventurestGamingyou can upload the world files to a file sharing site assuming you’re on pc. I think the nexus might even have a section for uploading worlds with builds on them

I don’t know whether it was just overhyped but I genuinely don’t find the Ashland’s very difficult. There seems to be a higher frequency of 2 star enemies, but I’m able to navigate around the Ashland’s solo with relative ease. Is it because people didn’t bother with magic before getting to Ashland’s? I built mine up quite a bit before ever setting foot there. I’m a decent player but I wouldn’t say I’m amazing that’s why I’m confused why there’s such pandemonium around how difficult Ashland’s is 🤷♀️
All these cries about the complexity of this biome started after the first days on the test server. There, the monster spawn was probably twice as high. Plus, no one understood what and how to do and what to expect from this or that monster. For me personally, landing in a new biome was comparable to D-Day. It took more than two hours. Not only did our ship collapse and my friend and I got stuck on the rocks, but after we got to the shore, the monster spawn was so high that we literally did not have time to fight them off. It was really cool! In the end, the developers heard the opinion of the majority of players and significantly reduced the monster spawn. And now, you come there and do not feel the level of excitement that we felt during the first test.
@@AdventurestGaming SHEEEESH that makes a lot more sense!! I only started playing Valheim reasonably recently so I’ve only just made it to Ashland’s in the last week or so and I was honestly so disappointed. I’m thinking the ashlands are gonna need a nerf. Badly, and soon. It took a buddy of mine in debug mode around 20 minutes to beat the boss. We were doing some testing and stuff, just to see what all we would be in for on release. Man, I don’t know how any of us are gonna beat it currently. It’s a nightmare
I have already completed almost all the content, with the exception of the battle with the last boss and the quest to find the fire sword. It was of course very difficult. Especially at the beginning, but then you start to get used to the situation. I want to say that when traveling through a new location it is much easier to avoid unnecessary clashes with monsters because there may be too many of them. You just run past in search of points of interest and there you are already fighting for your life.
Working through my first playthough on Very Hard. I'm up to Ashlands and it is very hard, but still making progress. Queen fight took me 2+ hrs. It is all possible. I imagine on normal it would all go pretty easy.
So you're building metal beams to support the interior tower walls, that's awesome I didn't think of that. Just cleared my first fortress and am digging out the basement. I'll try this support beam idea and see what happens.
Don't waste your time here, there's nothing step by step in this video. Few minutes in and the guy fast forwards and skips everything. It's a clickbait showcase.
While I agree it can’t be called step by step, I think we can all agree that there’s no way a five minute video would cover such a massive fortress. Not to mention while what he did looks pretty resource intensive it’s pretty straight forward and should be easy to replicate with your own touches.
Trashlabs repeating the failure that was Mistlands with Mistlands II: Dumpster Mechanics Boogaloo? lol. We waited all these years for this? Looks like an update I will devcommand my way through and save myself the time and disappointment.

@corporateturtle6005 I'm curious: What did you love so much about the initial game that you still follow it despite disliking the Mistlands (I assume because of the fog? Everything else was very "vanilla" for Valheim) and being so convinced you will dislike the Ashlands (I'm not sure why.. it doesn't have mist, although it has other ways to challenge the player and the use of ranged weapons)? Do you not expect to find what you liked, or is it just that the annoyance will outweigh it? Why bother to play if you devcommand your way through? (I admit I did as well, but just because I was lacking pre-ashlands resources and couldn't be bothered to go back and grind).
@@arthanor9631 Did you not actually play Mistlands to think "mist go brrrrrrr"? Had little to do with mist although it was a stupid and poorly implemented mechanic if we're being honest: The wisp had issues keeping up with a nonrunning player, couldn't at all for one running. The mist lamps didn't clear much and were a waste of resources to craft and place. The uneven terrain made melee combat problematic at best, useless at worse. If there was the slightest difference up or down you were guaranteed to miss 100% of the time as well as waste precious stamina. Speaking of stamina, most mobs could fly with no limitations making an already bad biome mechanic even worse. However that's not a Mistlands problem, combat itself is poorly designed and has been since release with no effort on the part of the developers to remedy this despite the massive disappointment and constant complaints from the community. But no "mist go bbbbbbbbbbrrrrrrrr" was not my main complaint.
@corporateturtle6005 I see the mist as an indirect nerf to the bow. Same with the lava making most fights happen in smaller areas. Since it's the most common complained, I assumed it was yours too. I agree the steepness of the terrain and wisplight behavior were annoying. Neither of those are issues in Ashlands though, as the terrain is pretty smooth and there's no wisp mechanic. There also isn't any annoying "wait to harvest" mechanic like for sap and the underground parts are more like troll caves than mines, which is welcome. Combat is still valheim combat though, but as you say, it's always been like that. I think Valheim's problem is that for most of the community, the thrill of discovery is gone. The new stuff isn't quite feeling new enough (it's still pretty much the same recipe of difficult to get ores, special items in dangerous places, wood and food are non issues, unlike Mistlands which at least didn't have a metal), so it just seems like something to get over with, hence your devcommand comment I guess.
I know the first couple of days there was a bug w aggro from every tree burning that was fixed. This is the test branch of ashlands. Maybe wait for public release before you get so angry lol.

@@AdventurestGaming As an older gamer who used to build houses for a living I play most games to build what I can. I never focus on endgame bosses, but on materials and build styles, I really liked what you did with that castle.
I respect and completely share your approach. Thanks for your comment!

@@y0nd3r Me, I will try and put something together, I dont really know what im doing when it comes to making videos or editing so it might be garbage, but I can try.
Dude please, how did you create the stairs to acces the top of the tower ?
You need to create a platform that will protrude from the tower in order to avoid spikes. Well, then you just connect the pre-prepared place with the stairs, so that everything looks beautiful.
Ty bro !! it wi
ll help a lot
You're welcome :)
How did you make the middle glas part without breaking the beacon?
Great question! I dug underneath it. First one side of the chest, then made supports, then the other side, more supports and so on until it was completely finished. I also recommend watching this video about Fire Hazards - ruclips.net/video/FTloH7k-fgs/видео.html
Anyone interested in building in Valheim will find this information useful.
I wish you all the best!
Impressive build! how do you support the floors? We keep having structural stability problems on a lot of these pieces.
Some of them supported by metal beams on the edges. But this is more the exception than the rule. It is worth following the standard rule of working with stone, when the two outer slabs create support for the central part. Considering that we are working with 4-meter slabs, they fill the entire space perfectly. I even got the impression that the developers themselves wanted us to build the base in this particular place.
Our fortress is right next to fader, that will end up being hopefully a safe place for the boss portal.
Can you please explain how you removed the central building in the basement?
First I removed one corner, then I made a transition from the floor to the wall, then I removed some of the soil and put supports in the places where the floor meets. You can stop the video in the places you are interested in and watch carefully how everything is arranged there.
it's so strange to see large amounts of people on the subreddit refuse to use these fortresses as their base because they think it's cheesy. i never knew people placed such arbitrary restrictions on themselves when playing games, even to the point of struggling mightily. i just turn on the game and play it.
To be honest, I didn't know about this either. Enjoy the game and try to be creative, that's my vision
How much resource use to complete the fortress ?
Thank you for your comment! I can't actually tell you how many resources were spent on building the base. It was built on a separate map in creative mode. My main base in the last playthrough was located in a completely different, very interesting place, you can see it in this video - ruclips.net/video/GedJdM1bJvg/видео.html
ok, now this is epic.
Thanks man! Very glad you like it!
Sweet base, but DAYUM Go Down Swinging hits HARD!
I really like that song ;) Thanks for the comment!
¡Amazing base!
Thank you so much!!!
Very nice design. I'm not quite there yet but enjoying the game as usual. The only thing that I wonder about is fallen Valkyries. Do your cross bolts take care of them before they damage them?
Thanks for the comment! Yes, they can handle Valkyries, but you have to repair them each time.
@@AdventurestGamingThat's what I thought. That's the only annoying part, otherwise very smart strategy. I'm going to be using the same strategy but probably don't have your design abilities so I'm envious. 😂
You can make it ;)
@@AdventurestGamingyou seem to use the Flametal beam as a temporary guide is that correct?
@@AdventurestGaming Thank you for the advice I wont risk it then. Keep up the great content
Working on that! Thanks!
tried this but cant get dig as deep as u did, am I doin sth wrong? I can dig about 1m below turret ground level max
The depth may depend on the bottom layer of the map itself. Try to capture another fortress. Probably there will be more depth there.
How do your fireplaces in the corner not smoke out the floor? did you expose them through the roof?
Check out my video about Fire Hazard. There is a section about Smoke mechanics - ruclips.net/video/FTloH7k-fgs/видео.html
In two words I made hidden wall behind the stairs. There is plenty of space for smoke to go.
How did you make the Ashland’s sky normal
Probably it was clear weather
But the issue is, how do you get inside the base without a portal? (once you have made the base yours)
I have a main entrance with a big and beautiful gate. Recheck it once again :)
@@AdventurestGaming Ah gotcha! Il check it out, ty
Welcome :)
how do you evacuate smoke from fire fodd and stuff ?
I use a false wall that goes behind the stairs and goes all the way to the blacksmith's benches. The mechanics of the smoke are such that you don't have to blow it upward. It is enough just to give him space so that he can disperse. Approximately 12-14 meters are required.
@@AdventurestGaming can you make a video about it ?
Sure! I will think about it.
@@AdventurestGaming it can also be vented horizontally, from a 45 degree slope to even, i did this for an old tower base i made so i could have my cauldron in the center without smoking up the higher floors. Enclosed it too so it looks nice.

how do you snap your floor to the fortress? I can't seem mine to snap without them breaking
Try the same place as it was in the video. Also recheck twise if there any gap between the wall and the floor piece. I've had some problems with gaps but I was able to solve them with Flametal beams.
So cool, like a mini Minas Morgul with that green ray up to the sky
Minas Morgul you just hit the nail on the head! Thank you very much for your comment!
has this been patched? i cant place the floor on the top layer
What exactly do you mean "can't place floor on the top layer"?
The layer of stone floors where you placed the shield generators. I can build one line of the floors and the second one is already red. How do you support them?
Ty for your reply
I started by snaping it to the corners of the fortress walls. You can see it on the video. Then continue around the outer line. Some times there are small gaps between the wall and the floor. Then you need to support these places with metal beams just a little bit. Then you have to follow the rule of stone structures. Two outer pieces will support the one between them. So you need to aling and build inner part ( the tower one ) and only after you can fill the middle of the structure.
@@AdventurestGaming ok thank you!!
Welcome! :)
LOL, I'm so doing this. I made a base out of the final mistlands boss tower and it rocked. Can also use a hoe and raise the ground to climb over wall without destroying anything.
Thanks for the comment! It can be as an option.
That's impressive! 👍
Thank you sooo much!
@@AdventurestGaming im sorry for asking so much but how do you keep the glow?

Impressive. But I'm getting tired of raid events... I was thinking to turn it off and make esthetic builds, livestock, gardens, etc. without worrying it may destroyed soon... I know it may sounds boring but... Just to play it different
Everyone can play as they please. That's the beauty of this game. There is something for everyone. Thanks for the comment!
I dug a huge moat around my main base. It's basically a fortified island in the black forest now. So far, only the bat and Drake raids have been able to reach it, but they're pretty easy to manage
I was using such tactic at the beginning of my jorney in Valheim. Right now I prefer to make walls with raised ground.
Turning raids off is no more lame than people that use portals. I'd say build something cool looking!
Tried this in three fortress, but sadly not one of them where deep enough.
Sure! In this build I wanted to have workable gates. But there are different options.
getting there sucks , lol you'll need to clear spawners and collect the new materials to build anything to break into the fortress. then you need to find molten cores so you can portal over to make a stone cutter because there is no iron to be found. it takes forever but doable nice video.
You can find Iron ingots in the pots around the map to build stone cutter. You can also raise up the ground or build some near the walls to get inside. Thank you very much for the comment!
You can do it alone in less than a week without rushing
@@Soniquete_ yee on last boss but taking a break now that ive made the fort :P dont want to rush through anymore
you only need two molten cores, which you can get from one putrid hole, then portal them back and take all the stuff you need from your other base

some cool ideas but there is no need to ram the outer gate and flametal pillars dont give any more stability than regular grauston (or wood iron iirc).
Absolutely right! Thanks for the comment!
What happen if i destroy the inner tower gate to get to the loot inside ?
You'll have to think of a new design for the central tower.
I destroyed as much as I could, the rest is floating in the air now :/
:)
awesome, you are a genius!
Thank you! New video is coming out today ;)
Why keep the tower and its door? To make sure you have the green light?
So as not to spoil the internal walls of the tower, since it is also part of the interior. Well, the green light, of course.
for some reason when i dig the many of the tower walls broke and some of them not and i cant build the stairs because of this
dig the ground
the tower walls are blocking the stairs
Watch the video again carefully. The ladder is not directly attached to the walls. There's a gap there.
This is so cool bro
Thanks! New video will be soon!

You could also just leave the maingate and just jump over the wall
Sure! It's another good idea!

First of all, to preserve the integrity of the tower. It acts as the central part of the interior. Secondly, to preserve the green glow from the stone. Thanks for the comment!

@@AdventurestGaming Totally fair to make a video like that, I just wouldn't call it "Step-by-Step Instructions." It's more like a high level overview. In the end it's fine, figuring details out on your own can be fun, the title is just misleading.

Yeah! So one of the stategies is to block spawns of the monsters around you. That might work too.

I do understand why the dev’s changed it though I wish they had still kept it slightly harder. I genuinely still find Mistland’s harder 🥲 Thanks for the info!
That was twice harder then Mistlands :)
Wow.
;)
Very Hard?! You mean like with no map, no portals and total loss of gear and skills?!
So you're building metal beams to support the interior tower walls, that's awesome I didn't think of that. Just cleared my first fortress and am digging out the basement. I'll try this support beam idea and see what happens.
Yeap! Very glad this video was useful for you! Check other videos on the channel ;)

Don't waste your time here, there's nothing step by step in this video. Few minutes in and the guy fast forwards and skips everything. It's a clickbait showcase.
I tried to make the video as accessible as possible. If you have any questions, I will be happy to answer them.
also making a fortress base is super pointless
While I agree it can’t be called step by step, I think we can all agree that there’s no way a five minute video would cover such a massive fortress. Not to mention while what he did looks pretty resource intensive it’s pretty straight forward and should be easy to replicate with your own touches.
you call this step by step? dude CLICK BAITTT
Trashlabs repeating the failure that was Mistlands with Mistlands II: Dumpster Mechanics Boogaloo? lol. We waited all these years for this? Looks like an update I will devcommand my way through and save myself the time and disappointment.
You definitely should try it without any cheats. It was a lot of fun. Especially when me and my friend first sailed to the Ashlands on Longship. Boat drowned in hot waters and we stuck on rock cliffs trying to get to the land. Man it was incredible 2 hour jurney ))))) Thanks for the comment!
