Re" Your coalmining heritage question... Both of my grandfathers were Welsh coalminers. Both of them "down the pits" at the age of 14 with what I would estimate to be an eighth grade education at best. Worked the coalface all their lives and both paid for it with shortened lives due to the expected respitory issues. My father was lucky enough to be tested in the early forties in a government initiative to identify gifted children in the valleys and I think they did the same up north. My father was then coddled through his schooling and went on to obtain a Masters (not MacMasters) degree in Metalurgy. That twist of fate allowed him to have a life, and subsequently his children, of much greater opportunity. My Dad passed on May 6th at 91 years old and I am externally grateful for him doing well on a standardized test when he was 11 years old!
The food weatherspoons serve always reminds me of what you get in Iceland (the shop not the country). The state of the table is a likely indicator of the standard of hygiene behind the scenes, and as you mentioned it was quiet in there so no excuses. Its perhaps not surprising that it attracts women who constantly burp and swear☹.

The Spoons I go in here in Cornwall are very clean with good beer and decent service. Yes food is basic but so is the food in at least 75% of pubs nowadays. Wetherspoons Is however about half the price of those pubs..

We've been into wetherspoons on occasions where I've wiped the table the staff are busy they've not enough staff in spoons always understaffed but saying that I have been in other establishment's where I've had to wipe our table & move the dishes left on tables I always carry sanitizer & lots of tissues in my bag for that simple reason
Been announced today that this is one of the 32 up for sale now - hope whoever wishes to buy it don't watch this review first. The words Flush, Money and Toilet spring to mind

Wetherspoons, the land of the microwave and frozen ready meals. This actually includes all meats, chips. Only fried eggs and chips are cooked. This is from a mates son who worked in one during Uni.
It is what it is I guess. All the 'grill marks' on the meats arrive like that frozen and each item on the menu has its own microwave code/time. So its 100% reheated food.
Like Brexit, you can fool some of the people some of the time! How's it going now, dim Tim?

Wetherspoons are absolutely fine as long as quality, taste, good ingredients and cleanliness are not amongst your requirements. They also attract such refined people. There’s more important things to my mind than being dirt cheap! Emphasis on dirt.

Really interesting that actually there is no such thing as a chicken burger 🍔. Did not know that.
Unbelieveble that the staff will hand over a cloth and cleaning spray to a customer. Mixed grill looked ok but id swerve on the chicken with stale bread - and that cheese slice was an insult. Shame, as ive had some decent food in a Spoons.
Probably a few of the reasons why Wetherspoons has just posted a £30 Million loss for the last year.
I started work back in 1958 at Bestwood colliery. My last job in Nottingham was at NCB medical centre, cinderhill. Where we used to x-ray all new applicants. Working on the mobile x-ray unit, I've visited all those pits you mentioned. Cheers cocker.

Firstly nice to see Ange back with you & hope her son as a speedy recovery. I remember the miners strike in the early 80's & I was at school, comprehensive for me, and we used to see all the Police driving past our School in riot vans on the way to Yorkshire, overtime Galore my dad used to say & we live in Cheshire. Never been a fan of Wetherspoons but sticky tables would of put me right off especially when your dry food arrived , sorry awful place. Great honest Vlog as always Lee. Onwards

Spoons is not the best …but…if people are on a budget it fills a gap in the market , the only spoons we use is breakfast and a pint at Birmingham airport which we will be doing on Wednesday next week enroute to TENERIFE !😁 say hi to Angie and don’t forget to ask her for my contact details if you want me and Jackie to take you and Daniel for a pint or three while you are out there 👍🏻 good to see Angie again 🥰

Re; the Sandwich/Burger controversy. Basically the Americans call it a sandwich if it isn't made of beef, the Brits call anything made of a round pattie, a burger, regardless of the meat!

Hi Lee and #theblondeangel Angie! I’ve said before. It always depends on which Spoons you go to as to experience with food and the service. Our two in Bury I would only go for a drink. Don’t go for food as it’s always cold when it arrives, tables piled with many dirty plates and sticky floors. The food you had didn’t look that bad. It’s all on taste as you say so I can’t comment. Poodles w***y so funny. All the best to Nick. I hope he gets on the mend soon. You two are hilarious together. Like a couple of naughty teenagers. Give a score of 6 for each one 👍🏻😘

Love your channel particularly when you have Ange with you. Praying for her son. I worked for the Solicitors representing the NUM & UDM. Visited most of the pits in South Yorkshire. My father-in-law worked down Cadeby Colliery all his life. Don’t think people today realise how hard it was times are very different now. Your honesty is fab other reviewers bull things up you don’t

Definitely another case of "you get what you pay for" at that particular chain. I know their prices are cheap compared to most others, but I still don't think it represents value for money.

I do mystery shopper for Wetherspoons and to be honest not one of the kitchen staff are chefs they simple bar staff doing the role when required. It’s all microwaved rubbish as long as it comes to you table within 10 minutes they’re ok as I have to set a timer! Mcaines pre cooked crap chips there you go ! It’s yuk stuff but I do the review based on my experience cheers 🍻
Well thats pretty obvious its all frozen microwave food. Can’t imagine their paying for Michelin star chefs to cook the food😂
You should get yourself down to Blackpool and review Wetherspoon’s The Velvet Coaster. Considering Wetherspoons is a big chain and the majority of their Pubs are very similar, if you didn’t know it was a Spoons, you would think it would be a “Upmarket” Pub

They do not care, Those meals i have had in the past when i visited a local Wetherspoons. Yes, i understand it's cheap and cheerful, but come on Wetherspoons, just show a bit more Customer Service and that you actually care about your patrons, that pay your Wages. My parents were both from the Ohio Valley , steel mills in abundance. Now all gone .
I've got to say, the Spoons in Llandudno (The Palladium) is my favourite 😄 But not a massive Spoons fan, I just love the look of the building 😄
Hi Lee, I'm the same age as you, I worked at Mansfield Colliery until it closed in 87, at Welbeck Colliery until it closed in 2010 and Maltby Colliery (Yorkshire!!) until it closed in 2013.
How anyone looks at a sausage and thinks poodle willy is beyond me. Looking at those meals I would've got a refund and walked out, but I know your job is to review and not get a refund. All the best to The Blonde Angel and her son Nick.

Lee you need to go to a different Spoons sticky carpet and dirty tables are a no no. Mine is normally clean unless completely rammed when the tables do get a little sticky.
I've had the large mixed grill at our local Wetherspoons and a burger as well and both have been really nice. I would have been really put off though if there were loads of flies around like you had and would have not wanted to eat there (we once went to a KFC that's not too far away from us and that had loads of flies buzzing around the food preparation area and the ceiling and many times I would have stomach ache after eating there and suffice to say, I said "I'm not ordering here" and walked out and never been back since).

Lee, I commend your loyalty in visiting an establishment such as this. To be confronted with a filthy table would have seen me walking out. That place requires an urgent visit from the Mansfield Council Food Hygiene inspectors. As for the food, 1/10 for your laughingly described gourmet burger with a stale cob and 0/10 for Angie's dreadful looking mixed grill with manky sausages, bullet like peas and frozen chips. I’m quite simple and can’t fault the spoons mixed grill. It’s cheap enough and you get a free alcoholic drink too, 8 for me and the burger another 8!
I was a miner in Ayrshire Scotland. We were first bevan boys started after strike. I worked at the killoch colliery &barony colliery best job I ever had by far that’s whare you learned your discipline and to respect other people. If you stepped out of line older miners weren’t long in letting you know. There’s a photo of my group at our old barony colliery whare there’s a miners memorial.

I've been in a few Wetherspoons over the years. They're not my go to choice for food, but I have had a meal in one before when I've been with other people. Dirty or sticky tables are a big bugbear of mine as is staff not cleaning them properly and not wiping the edges as well as the top.
Any idea when DJ will be putting out the baked bean challenge vid? I bet you picked the cheapest as the best. In which case you can not tell the difference from Heinze to Lidl!!
Your Spot on it was Brian he fell out with the VAT man and they took all his furniture from the pub an hour later the brewery turned up with some more furniture for him to carry on trading those were the days

Those peas there could also be used for ammunition if you don't want to eat them, for your pea shooter or Glock semi automatic. They certainly weren't mushy peas.

I would say they have low prices on a pint of beer. Sometimes a quid for a pint. I hope their chain pub at Hemel Hempstead will be OK when I visit in june. In Norway a pint of beer set you off at 10 quid or even more.
They do amazing beers at amazing prices. And they also sell very nice cloudy cider, again, brilliant prices. People that hate are going to hate. And people love to hate Wetherspoon's. If people don't want to go for whatever reason (probably because they hate the brexiteer chairman) good, more space for people that do.
Crikey this must be one of these quirky Theme'd experience venues you hear about . Where you have to clean and disinfect your own table, swat flies every third chip with a well thumbed sticky copy of Readers Wives, use hand sanitiser, get ripped off upgrading to a cheese slice that point blank refuses to melt and only crumbles. WTF can you imagine the state of the kitchen if this is front of house. Is it bookings only Lee...or can you just walk in off the street?

Hi Lee, where I was born in Kiverton park between Sheffield & Rotherham there was one of those big wheels that used to pull the coal trollies out of the pit at the end of our road . Now in my 50s I still lookout for them when I travel north but they seem to be limited to museums now. Pity , theres a bit of history we'll never see again. Lol M

I remember when (like you) coming home from school and all the buses with the cages over the windows were parked all along the road for the miners that went through the picket lines and the black moariahs parked next to them! The police and striking miners used to play football together until change of shift then it was pitched battles when the buses went through and then back to the football match after the shift change!
Staff should have said ‘oh no it’s ok, we’ll clean it’ instead of just handing Ange the spray and wipe! Honestly…

Tbh Wetherspoons are designed for consuming reasonably priced drinks preferably in quantity. The general shabby appearance takes you back to the 70s public bars in a lot of pubs. The food is cheap don’t expect too much. But service and cleanliness should be a priority
Had a mixed grill from the chain Hungry Horse yesterday and apart from the onion rings, it tasteless - thought I had covid again!
The cola was so watered down, the ice in it had more flavour.
Will try the mixed grill from Wetherspoons next time. Great video as always guys!
I refuse to eat at Weatherspoon's too many experiences of 'deli belly' and management are generally rude and suffering from delusions of grandeur. They don't do any work when they could be cleaning tables and they kick innocent people out and continue to serve the trouble makers.
