I always loveed this video fpr the fact she looks like she was going to "be sick" i mean i know guitar faces. but i think she just trying to get through it asap 😂 sorry kaki i wish i knew the true story. I should have asked you that when we met once, but ill never forget playing piano on am empty stage while you packed your gear after the show. You even yold me "Encore!" after i played. Its been nearly 15 years since then but i always carry that with me, i still have the album you signed under glass of my table. I was introduced to you by way of Pandora Radio through a song called 'Fortuna'. It changed my life forever musically because i had never heard someone quack on a song and then proceed to play the most beautiful melody also simultaneously singing said melody in harmony while making a parody. I must Thank you for visiting me through soundwaves and also makig an appearance in my home state. Everything youve accomplished along you journey and the distance youve traveled is astonishing and i am honored to have met you. Your musical abilities are unmatched and it was a pleasure watching you grow. I After 20years of listening, i just wanted to tale the yime to express my appreciation. You made a real dream of mine come true and ill never forget you for that. I think about you everytime i pick up my guitar 😂❤ Thank you Kaki!
I was watching Billy Strings play earlier today and noticed he does this involuntary movement with his mouth and it reminded me of this video I watched years and years ago. There's something beautiful about it I think. To completely remove yourself from everything and essentially becoming the guitar. Melting into the feelings and emotions you are playing and where nothing else in the world exists. And to be able to communicate those emotions in a way someone can feel the same way.
All these guitar "influencers" nowadays owe Kaki some serious respect. Saw her live about 15 years ago and I will NEVER forget it. She was and is still absolutely incredible and one of a kind ❤
i'm a hendrix fan, SRV, EDDIE HAZEL,ZAPPA,JOE SAT.many more that go unnamed, KAKI KING just made the top five of my favorite guitarist list .she brings a whole new cool, for the open ear!!
Right on, it's not a competition. Skill merely provides the means to musically express everything you want to. The feeling and meaning behind the song is more important than just the sheer, raw difficulty of the piece.
there are moments where she looks like she is playing at the very edge of her musical limit, I guess what I want to say is that she is definitely putting some serious effort into playing this song. truly amazing!
@NunzOnDrugs It is a variation of an Ovation Elite T. The sound holes are just that, sound holes. A good friend had a beautiful Artist model with the same type od soundholes. That guitar was a pleasure to play and hear.
What in the hell is wrong with being mainstream? It only means massive success for her..I hope she does get noticed..she's an incredible picker..Love the harmonies..great job kaki from female one guitarist to another..
@progressivesou1 ABSOLUTELY! It takes a very serious ability to achieve that level of concentration. It's like a "muscle"; the more you practice, the stronger you become. If you get really good, you will find you are able to place yourself in a "Trance" (as you rightly said), where you are hearing the music FAR before you play it. You will be able to play things you could practice forever, and still never cop. It's the exact same thing as, "The Zone" Michael Jordan often spoke of... it's real.
She doesn't look uncomfortable at all... She looks as if she's feeling out the song so deep that she's in a trace-like state... Its a similar expression that Jimi Hendrix gave when he performed... because when you're THAT good, the technicalities of playing become invisible and the instrument itself becomes a direct means to express emotions.
her music is dam fuckin beautiful man there is no other women player on acaustic guitar she is really nice in music specially in tapping on an acaustic
to me something is special if it sounds good, not if its hard to play! i agree with you! i could probably play this if i put the time in, but you must admit that it does sound good, and it is something special!!
@Shad0wBalrog There was a point when I first started listening to Kaki that I found her music to be a bit boring. It's not meant to be catchy or for a mainstream crowd. But once you realize how incredibly complicated and intricate her music is, you learn to love it. That's where the beauty lies. Imagine yourself trying to play this song, and you'll see what I mean.
Something about her style of her guitarwork reminds me of the late great guitarist Micheal Hedges. Both are wonderful musicians but if you like her you might also want ot check out hedges as well.
"the bomb" not "a bomb" a bomb suggests that it "bombed" or hit rock bottom. Where as being "the bomb" means it's an explosive hit, amazing, beyond compare.
well RonaldvanHippel, the pieces she does aren't exactly the kind a person who's only been playing can actually play unless u were a prodigy haha. she play's a strange but totally unique way and its wat makes her stand out. very nice.
sorry, i was refering to her expressions and some of her songs, none on this song in particular, in any caise i think she's a wonderful player and who would dream to play like that?, i'm sure i do :)
regardless of who is better, what matters to most people is what is more entertaining. kaki is more entertaining than ralph towner, to me. i don't even play guitar and i can tell you that. look at green day - really simple stuff, but it is entertaining. stop trying to be a know-it-all and just enjoy the music. if you don't like it, don't comment. you just make yourself look stupid. and just so you know i grew up in a musical family, so don't even try to call me uneducated.
im not gonna spend a second trying to play this shit, but i would gladly post some of malmstens stuff for you, i love playing that mans licks. maiden riffs are also amazing, and INTERESTING for playing at least for me.
If you like this then you'd probably really enjoy Muriel Anderson's stuff. Muriel's compositional style is dissimilar and more complex, but the playing style and technical approach is pretty close.
dont you guys that listen to this find it a bit boring?! i know "de gustibus non est disputandum", but man, Motley crue, WASP and all 80 bands! that is the real music....
"Who wouldve thought the best guitarist in the world would be a female?" Come now, she's nowhere near the best guitarist in the world, there are dozens who can play better, and her compositions are technically very simple to play. She is, however, one of the most interesting composers of guitar music I've ever encountered. Her compositions are fascinating, and she interprets them beautifully.
lol... anything above 600 dollars is expensive to me. Ovations really stand out when they are amplified. Good for smaller hands too. I agree it's stupid to bash different brands, every guitarist has his/her preference... I personally can't make a gibson do what I'd like... but I like the feel of a good tele.
Nothing, I have a 1778t that I wouldn't trade for anything. I have quite a few more expensive guitars that I use depending on the occasion, but when I can only bring one - I bring my Ovation.
Been listening to this track for 9 years... Never get's old :)
2019 still my fave from her hand down.
I always loveed this video fpr the fact she looks like she was going to "be sick" i mean i know guitar faces. but i think she just trying to get through it asap 😂 sorry kaki i wish i knew the true story. Heard her play this live a few nights ago. One of my favorites.
CLEARLY Michael Hedges is living in your body! Just great to know the energy lives on ! Thank you for your amazing music!! KaKi
Exactly what i was thinking, haha
Just a beautiful ethereal experience listening to her play
it's called passion, passion for what she does - making wonderful music.

Always been way ahead of the times, little bit of Hedges influence, but she is totally original, always has been!!🤘🤘🎼🎼🎼🎶🎶
That last chord progression and the way she plays it might be the most beautiful thing i have ever heard on guitar. Just phenomenal.
i'm a hendrix fan, SRV, EDDIE HAZEL,ZAPPA,JOE SAT.many more that go unnamed, KAKI KING just made the top five of my favorite guitarist list .she brings a whole new cool, for the open ear!!
I don't think I've ever heard such dynamics and chord voicing. This woman is truly gifted.
Gah, you can just tell that she puts so much feeling into what she's playing. Love her.
I totally agree. I this is one my favorite acoustic guitar songs--period
I'm glad to see she is looking better since the last time I saw her. She lost some weight.
Her music reminds me of NYC so much.
Bonnaroo = Tennessee music festival. Kaki King has been there twice and completely ROCKED in 2009!
Right on, it's not a competition. Skill merely provides the means to musically express everything you want to. The feeling and meaning behind the song is more important than just the sheer, raw difficulty of the piece.
You can really see the emotion she puts into this song. Thanks for the upload.
there are moments where she looks like she is playing at the very edge of her musical limit, I guess what I want to say is that she is definitely putting some serious effort into playing this song.
truly amazing!
This is fantastic😇
She's so cute
GEEEENIAAAAAAAA!!!♥
ESPECTACULAR!
That's one extraordinary musical sensibility operating there. Definitely navigating by her own internal compass. A rare talent to be sure.
@NunzOnDrugs It is a variation of an Ovation Elite T. The sound holes are just that, sound holes. A good friend had a beautiful Artist model with the same type od soundholes. That guitar was a pleasure to play and hear.
how can't I don't love this talented young lady who can play guitar that well.
Beautiful
I listen to Kaki King nearly every night in bed before I go to sleep, it's so relaxing..haha
She's got amazing talent, you have to admit.
Thumbs up if this song reminds you of Alex De Grassi "Turning Turning Back"
Thumbs up if you love what she does from 0:00 to 4:52.

I've always liked her style - nice work.
What in the hell is wrong with being mainstream? It only means massive success for her..I hope she does get noticed..she's an incredible picker..Love the harmonies..great job kaki from female one guitarist to another..

This is so fucking brilliant and beautiful, it hurts to listen to it. She is truly magnificent.
Very likely the best female guitar player currently working. Awesome tune!
@progressivesou1 ABSOLUTELY!

This song reminds me if when my husband and I first met.
I didn't notice her facial expressions until I read the comments. It's pretty easy to ignore when you're lost in the instrument.
Very nice guitar playing.
this song is transcendental
@Shad0wBalrog

if this woman and ani difranco ever walked into a room together, I Would collapse.
she's playing some thing in Urbana, IL soon. I just hope I can get down there without having to call in for work.
Hypnotic....
it's on the album called "Legs To Make Us Longer".
her face is amazing to watch
woohoo, love you kaki!
now listen to First Brain with your eyes closed and only feeling the music thats sooo relaxing!
She seems at least as far away as her tune - awesome performance
this is one of the only tunes from that disc that I really liked though...
it was great!
omg...you are amazing
@NunzOnDrugs It appears to be a variation of an Ovation "Seven" it obviously has a custom finish.
Something about her style of her guitarwork reminds me of the late great guitarist Micheal Hedges. Both are wonderful musicians but if you like her you might also want ot check out hedges as well.
Oh my god, this video is perfect if you want to write a tab for it.
"the bomb" not "a bomb" a bomb suggests that it "bombed" or hit rock bottom. Where as being "the bomb" means it's an explosive hit, amazing, beyond compare.
I love yours style, and your cuteness kills me. :'3
Good god, this is fascinating
God I love her!
well RonaldvanHippel, the pieces she does aren't exactly the kind a person who's only been playing can actually play unless u were a prodigy haha. she play's a strange but totally unique way and its wat makes her stand out. very nice.
Legs to Make us Longer
THUMBS UP IF YOU LOVE WHAT SHE DOES AT 2:42 ! uahuahauha

sorry, i was refering to her expressions and some of her songs, none on this song in particular, in any caise i think she's a wonderful player and who would dream to play like that?, i'm sure i do :)
kaki and bjork oh yes!!!
Hah, thanks.
I think it becomes really apparent in My Insect Life. The title says it all.
one of my favorite guitarists.
you gotta love the faces she makes when she plays lol.
i see alejando sanz right there in the back!
OMG!

GIMF. It's an Ovation Adamas. They start at around $4000 and go up from there. Never mind....
I think this was before she learned to control her guitar players face, lol.
My tongue sticks out randomly when I play some of her songs.
im not gonna spend a second trying to play this shit, but i would gladly post some of malmstens stuff for you, i love playing that mans licks. maiden riffs are also amazing, and INTERESTING for playing at least for me.

240p .... we meet again.
i think the one she is playing is made by adamas
its sweet sounds great
dont you guys that listen to this find it a bit boring?! i know "de gustibus non est disputandum", but man, Motley crue, WASP and all 80 bands! that is the real music....
i completely agree
"Who wouldve thought the best guitarist in the world would be a female?"

@amritaSG It's not in the UK sadly :'(
BF#C#F#G#C#, or one half step below her most common tuning, CGDGAD.
lol... anything above 600 dollars is expensive to me. Ovations really stand out when they are amplified. Good for smaller hands too. Kaki dominates
