  • In this bushcraft video I collect natural clay from the forest, then I make some pottery and I fire them in a pit fire for the first time!! Without A Kiln
    All of this in nature and with basic equipment.
    (the final was a little bit of a fail because some of them broke)
    This was an amazing adventure!!
    I hope you guys enjoy this video!
    Lots of love, Meen

    I don’t think it was a fail at all. Some clay can take 2 weeks to dry. Maybe next time 2 trips. One to get the clay and then 2 weeks later to fire the clay. This is amazing and so fun to watch

      That wasn't the problem, she didnt work the clay into a body at the start, pushing all the air out, you can see this from the cracks in the tops of the pieces that the clay wasn't homogenized.

    • @GuloguloMX
      @GuloguloMX Год назад

      it also depends on the amount of grog used, lots of it make the clay less plastic but make it dry faster and easier to fire since it doesnt crack as easily when exposed to a thermal shock

    This method produces two useful things: clay pots and charcoal, if you scale it up the amount of charcoal would be enormous, if you sift it you can use for BBQ.

    Awesome, but next time add more grog/sand/temper, and then wedge your clay some more, then make your walls more thinner (no bigger than 1/2 inch), but overall your pit firing experience was excellent

    Your coil pottery skills are that of a beginner, if this was your first time, or first few times, I'd say you did ok, but you forget to use the bonding pinch after you set your coils around your pot, you also have to smooth the pot with your fingers out after each coil you set, and bond to your pot. You also don't need to bury the pots either, you just got to lay your fire wood around the pot or pots, and then just let the fire burn until its done burning. I hope these tips helps you out on future primitive pottery videos.
