this past May i went to the Tony Rice Musicfest in Camp Springs and among all the talent that played that day Josh Williams did the best tribute to Tony, he played the Church Street Blues Album in it's entirety and absolutely nailed it. Josh is carrying Tony's torch and keeping it burning bright.
Funny thing is that I had been listening to Bela and the Flecktones for YEARS! I never realized he could play bluegrass. Looking back, I must have been stupid! All banjo players likely started with bluegrass.
Shows why Tony was the greatest flatpicker ever, even though he really just played same 8 or 9 licks over and over - but he played them with such tone, warmth, incredible time-feel and elemental FORCE. And his rhythm playing lifts everyone around him. Just the best.
Saw this wonderful band in Ohio along with JD Crowe and Jerry Douglas in 91, sticks in the back of my memory forever. RIP Tony
It was 1992...changed my life :)
The best of the best! I saw the superpickers at the Birchmere years ago and this brings back memories of that great show!

It probably don't get any better than this.
Wyatt’s leas playing is absolute 🔥
Very good bass player👍🏻
Just wow. Tony, Sam, Mark, Bela, Jerry... the best

He does have his signature licks, but he throws in those fancy jazz chords seamlessly! He is the best flatpicker of all time. AGREED!
Well those same 8 licks were just the melody of the song🤷🏼♂️
