Good info, thanks. I am not sure though about the part with the start stop system: based on my experience, if the battery kicks in to often to start the car and looses charge, the start stop will be disabled automatically. Some batteries can last for a long time in this state , others perhaps not.
Regarding stationary discharge: it varies form car to car, I have a 13 year old 2 l diesel which does not see any city driving, and I can leave the car parked for 3 months or more, with not issues. But I know of other cars which indeed can't start after a few weeks stationary.
And another debunked myth for me is the one with the factory battery that lasts the most: it lasted 5 years for me , the next one lasted for 8 years.

I put a charger on the battery in fall and summer. It seems the batteries don't get fully charged normally.

Do cars with automatic stall/start need more expensive batteries than cars without the nuisance feature?

That depends on the type of start-stop. Usually, they do require AGM batteries that are more expensive than traditional batteries. Those have better tolerance to discharge and more possible cycles.
