Lindsay, Thank you so much for going over all the skin tone alcohol markers for us! This information is invaluable, as it will save us time and ultimately money. Who knew? Thanks again!
Thanks so much for this thoughtful review! I wasn’t sure if I would like alcohol markers but been practicing with my skin tone set and really love them. It’s nice to have them for mixed media and new way to do skin. I watched a lot of your videos with alcohol markers before purchasing and continuing to watch to learn. Thank you Lindsay.
Thank you for the comparison! It's hard knowing what to take a chance with when it comes to less expensive art supplies. I bought my 8 yr old son the Ohuhu 48 set for Christmas on a lightning deal. I'm pretty happy with the markers so far. Personally I've been collecting Copics from Hobby Lobby with the 40% off coupon, 1 marker at a time for several years. I've watched youtubers draw with Copics to know which colors to get. I don't have a need for all 300 or whatever markers so it's working out great. I plan to try and refil the Ohuhus with Copic ink when the time comes. If it doesn't work I'll only have waisted a few drops of ink. :)
Fantastic review, thank you! Bought the Arteza set on your recommendation. Like you, I spotted those brown shades and thought they could do really well in hair, and I love the sheer range of value and warm/cool tones the set includes.
If you call Michael craft store corporate they will let you use the 60% Joann coupon on copics (when the coupon is active at joanns). I got 3 sets A,B,C for $250 each including shipping. That's only a little over $3 a piece. Just sell what you don't want. Or use the coupon on the skin set and it's way cheaper. Loooove your videos!!!!!!
Wow, thanks for doing this, I really appreciate it! I have the artxx set and ... it's weird for me. I may need to practice more, though. I have a 48 set of AspireColor, which I'm liking, but they didn't initially offer much in the way of skin tones. Thus the artxx. I'm thinking I would like to get the spectrum noir set because, for me, it's plenty. Lots of blending possibilities and refillable. Thanks again, so so so much!!!!!
This is so helpful!!! I love the Arteza set. I've used those and Copics the most. And Arteza has recently started selling individual replacement markers in sets of 4 for about $8. So the ones I use the most I can actually replace when they're used up.
I have the Azure markers and love them. The best skin tone color actually comes in the seashore set. It is the skintone 6 shade. Tan 1 for skin. I was smart and bought seashore and complexion together.
Thanks for all your hard work on this review. I have some Copics but feel the fine tip is too thick for me. I really like the new Ohuhu markers. Their fine tip is easier for me to color with. (Old eyes. Lol). Hugs
I miss the sniff test, hehehehe. Partly serious; I usually get a headache from aclohol markers. The dyebased not so much but the alcohol are so vibrant Im such a sucker for that.
Absolutely FABULOUS video!! I have the full set of Blick and some fillers of Copic in E00 and E000. They have both been refilled MANY times! I'm impatiently waiting on the big release of the Arteza. I want to say they told me today that they are releasing on 2/20? I cant remember the exact date off the top of my old brain (even from just today), but I can pull the date if someone is interested. Do you have a good "pailer" combo for the Blick Studio Brush tips? For some reason they just feel kind of more greenish based to me? Thanks for the wonderful comparison. Oh and the "Artist Loft Brush Markers" from Michael's are really cheap, usually $1 - $1.50 on sale (often), but they fray horribly! Definitely walk away from them. Thanks again! 😊
Oh no! Arteza is coming out with more markers (I'm gonna need a bigger shelf lol!) I know arteza has some lovely pale pinkish peach and pink beige tones that would be nice with the blicks. I mix all my brands together and they work great!
@@thefrugalcrafter yes, I mix my brands too. I even have all of the original Tim Holtz alcohol ink colors in markers too. They play beautifully as well. I didnt care for either of the SNoir marker types. I loathe bullet tips because they scratch like styrofoam! EEK! 🙅♀️ I'm definitely a brush tip type of gal :)
I love the arteza ones I am ganna purchase the ohuhu bullet nib I prefer them over the brush cause I'm not to good with my copics this was a great review thank you for this
Do you have any examples of Images you have colored with the different skin tones to show us the different complexion or hair types possible with that brand. I love when you show examples you have colored with a set. The shells you colored with the studio 71 set is a perfect example. I know it takes you a lot of time to do All these videos. I learn so much from you. I really do appreciate your advice and tips. I have purchased many things thru your links. I love that you try to help us get the best value and best quality we Can afford.
Since this review was done before the Arrtx Alp markers came out, which set has a better range of colors? Arrtx Alp skin tone or the Arteza? Thanks. I appreciate all of your reviews and comparisons.
Great video! Though I learned so much from this video, I’m still confused lol. I have a few skin tone sets but they never have enough or the right colors to create darker skin tones. I nearly purchased the Arteza a few hours ago but took it out of my cart at the last minute. They have so many I feel like I can't go wrong with them. I have the Studio 71 set, I don't like them, I can never seem to create the skin tones I want and they keep getting that salt residue on them and drying out. I will try your remedy asap. I really love Art-N-Fly markers, I have just the pastel set, but they are so nice to work with. I can't see how they could be any better, but I don't know if that set will give me all the colors I need to create a variety of skintones. I don't know, I may get the Arteza set. Maybe later get the full Art-N- Fly set.
Did you have a smart phone? If so download the free copic app. Swatch the markers you have and see where you are missing cors, then open the copic app and look at the hand colored swatches in the E family and consider purchasing a couple browns to round out your collection. I think it would get you just what you want at a lower price.
Thank you for this. I am very curious, I have been using copics for a few years. I bought a maybe 20 then added a few every months. Maybe 100 now.i would love to add in some to fill in gaps. But my budget is tighter. I prefer a refillable marker. I like a brush nib. What would your recommendation be ? How are blick brand? Or is there another brand? Outside of skin tones, I have those covered.
Love your reviews! This one was perfect. The last week or so, I’ve been struggling with flesh tones! Hoping maybe you could the same for pencil sets? Thanks again for in depth review, I appreciate all the work you do!
I dont have any specific skintone pencil sets except for the spectrum noir one. I would suggest pulling out all of your earth tones and pastel shades and making your own using what you have.
Interesting. I already own many copics so will keep those, but they now have the bullet tip that you can buy and use to replace one end and I chose to replace the chisel as don't care for it. By the way, this u-tube was interrupted 4 times with adds Has never happened with your u-tubs before. Any ideas on that?
Weird, I am surprised, I not specify ad breaks, I let RUclips place them but 4 is excessive. Usually there are not many ads in january. Sorry about that.
Thanks for the info I have a hard time with finding the right combination of color s to get the right skin tone, so needless to say I don't do people...I should say I don't focus on them. I don't have hardly any markers, due to them drying out etc. Aside from putting the caps back on..lol doyou have any suggestions on how to slow the rate of drying out etc?
@@thefrugalcrafterI don't usually hear anyone else mentioning that alcohol markers have a strong smell, so I think I am just sensitive to it. Alcohol markers give a unique look, I do like them :)
I could not help but notice that you mostly pointed out skin tones more that look like you. You said the darker colors were good hair tones. Did you not think any of the sets had skin tones for Afro Americans or Hispanics more the brown tones and what about the Asians?
virginia lawton well, personally, I found that the darker flesh tones can be done with the base sets mostly. These sets are done for lighter skin because that’s been missing from the base sets.
Help! I recently purchased the Ohuhu 48ct brush set. Now I want skin tones. I keep hearing bad things about Ohuhu's skin tone set. Is there a brand you would recommend to pair with my Ohuhus? The green shade in the Ohuhu set is actually for undertones. It actually layers really well, apparently.
Thanks, I didn't know that:)
Thanks so much for including us in your review, Lindsay! We really appreciate the feedback as well 😊
My pleasure!
I never buy any art supplies before I check in with your channel. Always reliable information
I appreciate you vote of confidence and kind words;)
I just purchased the Arteza, look forward to getting them.
Would love an updated version of this video, there’s so many new sets

The Azure Royal and Langnickel markers do duplicate within sets.

Store them in plastic ziplock bags with the air squished out. Some markers are not airtight.

Do all alcohol markers have an odor? Copics seem to have a strong odor, are there brands that have less odor?
Not all of my Copics smell strongly. But if you don't like odour never buy the Nuvo alcohol markers. It was comparable to using sharpies!
