- A foreigner in Sri Lanka explores the capital city of Colombo. There I meet and talk to many friendly Sri Lankan locals who show me about life in the country. By the se shore they treat me to street food and introduce me to the beedi and how to use it.

in Srilanka we accept Sinhalese and Tamil greetings only.. people don't say any thing back for "Namaste" .. you have to say "Ayubovan" or "Vanakkm" then people will greet u back

Please refrain from using 'Namaste' as a greeting here, as we are not in India. Just like you wouldn't say 'Bonjour' in London, it's essential to adapt to the local customs. In Sri Lanka, the primary language is Sinhalese, while Tamil is predominantly spoken in the north. Here are a few words in Sinhala:
Good = Hondai
Thank you = Sthuthiy
Ayubowan = a greeting to welcome people (Hello/Good morning/afternoon/evening)
True, habit after three months in India. Thanks, I think hari/hondai have been the most important ones to replace my 'acchaa' habit

Easily per person/day 2k INR you can manage food / accommodation and sightseeing in Lanka, and if u use busses only. Taxi is expensive.

The ferry service will be operating from jaffna harbour which is at the very north of Sri lanka. I dont know if it has already started or not but you can search on google a bit and see if it has started.
Oh I see, makes perfect sense. I read up on it early this year, talk about building the facilities so it should be done at some point. I know that cruise ships already go back and forth.
@@MadlyRover yes cruise ships come to Colombo port, since it's for tourists, but the ferry service is meant to be more of a "local" thing if that makes sense which is why it operates from Jaffna.
We have always been independent and most peolle want it to remain so. At this rate we will end up as an Indian colony. Even now there are Indians working in minor jobs in Sri Lanka.

You should go to kandy, Nuwaraeliya... to experience the cold climate.. to see the beautiful beach you need to travel down south.. bro.
