This is the replica Rocket, which people have ridden. The real one is on permanent static display--it's much too old to steam. (It also has been heavily altered from the 1829 look of the replica.) Incidentally, the Planet was not a prototype to the Rocket--it was a successor, with an improved design and layout. (Again, this one is a replica; the original Planet has not survived.)
@ollyk22 i think that it is based there but i last saw it at the dean forest railway on the 26th of june it was there for boiler repars, i think that it is still there. but the paint is now gone very flakey.
@ollyk22 It does live in York yes. Main line use I highly HIGHLY doubt it. You can ride on a proto type to the Rocket in Manchester called the Planet! Riding on the Rocket.... I doubt that too. Its so so old now that its probably too risky. :-( I may be wrong... If you find out let me know!
Does this rocket live in York and is there a website dedicated to it? Just want to find out if I have a chance of riding it? ALso is it certified for main line use?
nice lineside shot harry .. :) top stuff 5*s and a fav
Thomas and friends king of the railway
