Every March, people from all over the country, probably Europe, go to Valencia, Spain to partake in the craziest festival you can ever think of and after a crazy Saturday night walking around the city, we knew that the following week was going to be nuts.
Valencia is Spain's third-largest city. It is a popular tourist destination, attracting more than 2 million tourists each year. Valencia is well-known for its gastronomy, cultural festivals, and architectural diversity.
Valencia was occupied by Visigoths and Moors over the centuries, adding to the city's rich cultural heritage. Valencia flourished throughout its Golden Age in the 15th century, with new structures, art, and culture. During this time, the Silk Exchange (Llotja de la Seda) was built, and it is still one of the city's most popular and beautiful structures.
Festivals in Spain are something that everyone should do at least once in their lives. Festivals in Spain are huge, from tomato fights like La Tomatina to all-things-flamenco festivities like the Feria de Abril in Seville and Las Fallas in Valencia, a 5-day street fiesta with stunning pyrotechnics and light shows that concludes with everything being lit on fire, is one of the most popular Spanish festivals. Every year, a Fallas Queen is chosen to promote the festival all year long, encouraging locals and guests to participate. The practice's know-how is passed down the generations, especially among those involved in the construction of the ninots, who come from various guilds in the participating communities.
The Fallas Festival allows for collaborative innovation as well as the preservation of traditional arts and crafts. It also serves as a source of pride for the community, contributes to cultural identity, and improves social cohesiveness. When the Valencian language was outlawed in the past, the festival served as a means of preserving it.
Hopefully, this video can show you a snapshot of what went on during Fallas. Enjoy and we hope to see you around!
