  • Broken EVs Head Straight to Junkyards As Repair Costs Are Unbearable! EV makers have been promising all kinds of things, including low maintenance costs, easy repairs, and even battery swaps. But so far, things have been quite the opposite, considering that electric cars are not just less reliable but also cost a fortune to get fixed. Things went to the point where broken EVs head directly for junkyards, while EV cars were once hailed as the future of transportation. Exorbitant repair costs that are leaving owners with no choice but to scrap their vehicles. Join us as we delve into the dark side of the EV industry and expose the secrets that manufacturers don't want you to know. From faulty batteries to costly software updates, we'll show you why the EV dream of sustainable transportation is turning into a nightmare for many.

😊 Hey guys! We created the Chase Car channel to give viewers a broad overview of the upcoming new cars from the top car manufacturers. We are huge fans of pickup trucks of all sizes: compact, mid-size and full-size trucks. So mostly, we will cover new upcoming trucks, but besides that, here you can find a lot of content about new sedans and SUVs too.
The Electric Vehicle wave sooner or later will become huge, so this type of content might appear on this channel from time to time. But as we are still on the way to becoming fully electrical, we mostly cover fossil cars from many amazing brands.

watch what you need for one battery:
Lithium brines contain about 0.14% lithium, so it takes about 20,000 pounds of brines to yield 30 pounds of pure lithium.
Cobalt with an ore grade of ~0.1% means approximately 60,000 pounds of ore will be excavated per battery[e]
Nickel with a content of approximately 1.3% represents approximately 10,000 pounds of ore[f]
Graphite at ~10% results in 2,000 pounds of ore[g]
Copper at ~0.6% yields approximately 12,000 pounds of ore[h]
These five elements add up to about 100,000 pounds of ore to make an electric vehicle battery.

I'm a 50 year electronics tech. When they first told everyone that EV's are "simpler and more reliable" I nearly died laughing! Electronics are the bane of cars, and EV's take it to a whole new level. Plus the computers and modules will be rendered "obsolete" in short order to FORCE you to upgrade. Simple is actually better if you BUY something instead of LEASING it. EV's are designed to be lease boxes. If you like a lifetime of renting things, this is for you! 👍

    • @jasonhaynes2952
      @jasonhaynes2952 18 дней назад +4

And this is problematic too...EV's are really meant to be charged overnight over the course of hours. This is the business proposition to owning/leasing one. You charge it up while you're sleeping and you won't ever have to visit a "gas station" again. But there's a problem with that...this cuts gas stations out of the loop. Sure, they could add some charging stations and charge for their use, but if people are going to be charging them at home 90% of the time, that means they'll only get 10% of all car traffic (assuming they are the only ones in town). So gas stations providing EV charging stations will never be cost-effective for them or generate a profit because everyone is charging at home. This also causes another problem, it means whoever provides your electricity has a monopoly and they can now charge you whatever they want! Yup...no more putting enough gas in your car to get you through until payday. Nope...you're going to get a bill every month, and if you owe them money they'll just shut you off, leaving you no way to get to work. I have no doubt electricity providers are eagerly lobbying our government to push EV's on a skeptical public.

Between the 2 shops I'm affiliated with, we have a few and all has become problems between insurance companies not wanting to pay, customers not having an understanding of what they actually bought believing the marketing sales gimmicks, salesmen, and their wanting to believe they made the best purchase as possible. And trying to find technicians that are certified in the required field to argue for the correct repair and correct repair procedures. The correct repair procedures are generally no corners cut, by the book. Which means expensive. So the insurance company would rather write it off than take liability for requesting a substandard repair to save money, knowing these cars has a tendency to show that they are compromised days, weeks or months after repair. That then puts the insurance company, the shop, and even the technician that worked on it in a terrible position. The ones at our shop are sitting alone by their selves with storage liens on them getting ready to go to the scrap yard. Sad thing is 3 of them don't even look that bad. The slightest accident with any EV requires the customer's insurance company to send out a specially trained adjuster to start 'a full investigation' that could take weeks just to get an est. His in house adjusters are NOT ALLOWED to even get near it via the insurance companies' liability clauses. Damaged Evs waiting for repairs must be stored outdoors, batteries disconnected, in a lot 300 yrds away from the shop due to fire hazards. More often than not, if there's ANY evidence that the battery protective frame is damaged in ANY way, the vehicle gets totalled. BTW, if they total the vehicles, he only gets a marginal storage lot fee payout.

It seemed the way to go for a few years but recently the company we use to dispose of old lithium and AGM batteries announced they would no longer take them, as the lithium and other materials could not be recycled. Oh, and in cold climates, you really need to store/charge them indoors in a heated garage. And how about the used car market? Poor people often drive older cars because they're cheaper, but there is no options on an EV. If the battery is junk (or goes after they buy a used EV), they're out completely! Not to mention, a lot of poor people have trouble paying their electric bill as it is. Many are putting a few bucks of gas in the tank to hold them over until payday. don't forget the environment damage bcz of mining, you need a lot of water to produce Lithium. 2,000 liters of water for 1 kg of lithium!!

This is one of the points in this video that was just patently false and misleading. Working on EV batteries is fairly straight forward...and working on EVs is somewhat simpler than more complex mechanical engines where timing and fluids are involved in working properly. Computers are involved in both gas cars and electric cars, and those can be complex...but they are also modularized and replaceable without requiring technicians to be computer engineers to diagnose and repair. The complexity is coming from the automotive market via more advanced sensors and road awareness technology. This is a trend happening on both ICEVs and EVs and affects both similarly. This is another point this video just glosses over. Insurance companies are writing off sensor dense ICEVs just as much as EVs when damage seems more cosmetic because those sensors become a liability if not repaired and calibrated correctly. This is why we see both gas cars and electric cars declared totaled when just the front bumper is damaged, as there are sensors involved that add to the complexity of repair. The same with airbag deployments, where they need to be repaired and reset properly, with the right amount of glue where needed and the entire chemical reaction mechanism that sets them off replaced and thoroughly evaluated/inspected. Insurance companies will simply just give up on the vehicle than pay for it to go through that whole process. For more extensive damage, with EVs there actually is more incentive to total an electric car just because of the battery. EVs in this scenario don't end up in a junkyard per se, but rather an auction lot where they are sold, and the batteries are salvaged. EVs tend to have a higher salvage value as a result due to the precious metals that can be harvested and resold. Even better if the battery was never damaged in the first place. (As an EV owner, it's worth considering buying back the vehicle after it is declared totaled, just to be the recipient of the auction value once it goes out to be bid on...which in most cases is more than the buyback value)

These are typically highly trained engineers who work for service centers within dealerships and yes, they do get paid more, but only because they have more expertise on the complex parts of car servicing (EVs and high tech ICEVs/Hybrids/etc). Outside of that, EVs are actually significantly simpler vehicles from an engineering standpoint. Australia's Department of Defence researched the same question and found that “there was a 0.0012% chance of a passenger electric vehicle battery catching fire, compared with a 0.1% chance for internal combustion engine cars.”Nov 24, 2023

Any sensible.person knew from the start that EVs would be an abject failure.
But what a terrible gross waste of our tax money.

The major reason EV car sales slacked off is the elimination of the government taxpayer subsidy to buy one!

EV's do not have fewer parts, each cel in the battery is a 'part' that can fail and sometime just one of those failing can destroy the whole car.

Just an engine and transmission have almost 1,000 parts, and they're moving parts. You're literally typing this using a lithium ion battery.
Coming from someone who's built engines amd transmissions also, a new engine in a modern car costs as much as a battery pack, about 10 grand.

When they say "fewer parts" or "fewer moving parts" I think it's in the context of an internal combustion engine vs. an electric motor, not necessarily the whole car. But point taken, you have a battery with a number of cells which once they go bad you start to lose range and eventually has to be replaced.

@@erictuffelmire6826 There can be more than 7,000 cells in a Battery car pack. There are about a dozen parts in each cell. There are at least 2 electrical connections for each cell. Then you can add in sensors, charge controllers, inverters. Also, the OP need not be using a lithium ion battery to be posting, there is this thing called a DESKTOP Computer.

Its getting difficult to repair any vehicles not just electric. I have worked in electronics and engineering for over 40 years and things are getting seriously over-complicated. When i did electronics at college a lad asked the lecturer Sir, how come you can boil, freeze and subject scorpions to radioactive radiation and they dont die - his answer was because they are much more simpler lifeforms. When i was around 19 years old i was babbling on about flywheel discriminators in television to an old tv engineer and he said look lad just keep simple - and he was bloody right.
If we really want to save the planet we should repair old cars and stop going down this crazy computerized road.
