My stomach was growling the whole time I was filming this! Now I’m craving Adobo again 😍
Yeah my belly was growling and I had food in front of me 😅
I love you so much
I’m American who has a Filipino cooking channel how did I do making pork adobo ? ruclips.net/video/Gkiw7kNDhjs/видео.html
oh word? How you like that bland adobo with carrots?
I’ve never even tried adobo and I want some. This all looks fantastic.
Man hearing Filipino women with the UK accent is mind blowing lol I’m so used to my Filipino Americans
Me too. I live in Idaho. I love the accent.
I live in the Bay Area and there is a large Filipino community here, especially in Daly City. I’ve never heard a Filipino person speak with an British accent.
@@Dop3ritrean 🤣🤣🤣 went to middle school in Daly City at Ben Franklin met all the dope Filipinos man they some of my favorite ppl shit my my brother half Filipino and we from the city
@@Dop3ritrean that’s why it blew my mind I’m used to my ghetto ass bay areans 🤣💪🏼
@@MoneyBoyYB that’s dope! I went to State for undergrad and practically lived in the City. Pinoys and Pinays everywhere!!! They rep hard!!!
the older woman knew what they were talking about the young girl needs more time to be seasoned . Joyce could have won but chantell gave her a 5
Ikr, only because it was spicy.
She should’ve rated the taste itself.
There are some foods that taste amazing and I’d give 10/10 even though it’s spicy.
To be fair Joyce also gave her a 5 so…
yeah i agree.. they young girl has her own way of adobo the 3 older ladies did it pretty well.
however, just my take on it.
1. the egg should have been marinated with the adobo sauce. (should be brownish in color, not white).
2. i don't put carrots. if they want to add veggies maybe use sitaw(long bean).
3. the chicken is fine (not to be cut into little pieces).
4. i don't really drown my rice with adobo sauce, more of just coating it. so having the sabaw (soup) is not really a necessity for me when it comes to adobo.
the older 3 ladies know their adobo pretty well. 🍻👍
Yeah she judged the food base on her not liking the chili lol. Judge the food base on what you think how it turns out as adobo regardless of the spice level u cn only handle ahaha
@@DeeDragon but it means the spicy adobo is not for everyone.
The other lady has a point. It doesn’t matter how your food tastes as long as you, your family, your friends, or heck even your neighbours! If they love it, then what’s wrong with it? I think that every dish has one thing in common, it’s invention originated from love.
I adore this group of ladies. They were all very complimentary and each found something they liked. I am glad Mae won! Now do siopao, please.
That’s hard.
@@donnicachi-young9920 But so good and understanding the variations, I think it would be interesting.
Spoilers 😂 thank God I don't know which one May is!
Thank you BUZZFEED for having me on the show! I had such a lovely time and I’m so happy I won 🥳 I’m dedicating this to my family who loves my adobo too 💜💜
Thank you so much 💜
Loved your Adobo loads 🥰😍
Thank you tita for sharing your food with us 🥰
@@FoodwithMae You were so sweet and your adobo looks appetizing❤!
New Subbie happy that you won you were fair and honest with everyone different take on the meal love your dish with the chicken and Pork congrats 👏
THEY’RE SO RESPECTFUL. WE STAN
fr some of these comments are not it 😭 they be saying chantelle is white washed cause she puts carrots in her dish even tho people do that in the philippines
@@FenjaManou Not really. In Visayas we do not put carrots in our adobo.
@@yeeter1877 yea that’s fine but there are filipino people who do. Calling her “whitewashed” cause of it still just isn’t right no matter what you say. She and her family enjoy their adobo the way they do. It doesn’t make them whitewashed or less filipino.
@@FenjaManou Facts! and also by the way, my mom is from Bacolod, and she DOES put carrots in her adobo on occasion, so I wouldn't say that no one in the Visayas doesn't put them in.
unlike the lumpia segment I saw 😭
When I was in college, there was a Filipino girl who lived in the same dorm hall as me. On her birthday her mother came to visit and made pork adobo with cabbage and rice for the entire hall. Not only did she bring enough for dinner, but there was enough for all of us to take 3 nights worth of leftovers. It was seriously one of the most generous things i ever experienced. I’ve been in love with Filipino food ever since and adobo in particular warms my soul every time.
The lady in white clothing is such a sweetheart omg.
I love how Mae said that if her family loves it, thats all that matters. Thats so wholesome!
My step mom (2nd mommy) is Filipino… she raised me since I was in 5th grade and this was the first Filipino dish she taught me to make. One of my FAVORITE foods! Now I’m craving. 😍
OMG same! My dad and my step mom (Filipino) been married for 20yrs now and my Nanay taught me 😊♥️
@@oliveoiljns308 wanna know how I know you’re telling the truth? You said NANAY!!!! ☺️❤️🌹. I love it!
You guys are so precious ❤️
But in the Philippines nobody really eats Adobo on special occassions or restaurants. its just hype on social media.
@@eduardochavacano MISMO! When i see filipino food online it’s always “lechon, adobo, lumpia, ube, and halohalo” which i think is a good introduction but i’m trying to see filipinos show more special/regional dishes or their interpretations.
Mae seems like a really nice person. I’m glad she won.
She is! I've been following her for while 😍
@@TheIntrovertKitchen thank you 💕💕
All of my mom’s siblings ( Mexican) married Filipinos, all my 15 cousins are Mexipinos lol so I, a full blood Mexican really appreciates adobo and all of filipino cuisine 🫶✨
funny how stuff like that happens, my extended family got a trend of marrying koreans in the last couple of years which is interesting
Man, the food must be amazing during family reunions
Love that! ❤
For those who don’t know, adobo comes in many form: soupy, dry, w/ bay leaves, w/out bay leaves, chicken, pork, long beans, water spinach, etc. There’s even a variant called “adobong puti” (puti = white). Instead of a soy sauce and vinegar base, only vinegar is used, which makes it white. That being said, I don’t think I’ve ever seen carrots in an adobo. I guess you can compare it to pinapples on pizza. I’m not saying that it’s bad, just that it’s not traditional. No one in the Philippines would put carrots in their adobo!
How many people would cook it in a slow cooker too? She really white washed the dish.
i wouldn’t say that no one in the Philippines doesn’t put carrots . where i’m from we use carrots . i prefer with carrots tbh
Yeah I've never seen adobo with carrots. I think it could be good though just more like curry
I live in Ph. I've had adobo with carrots before. Not my thing but it is a thing.
@@puapucuve6643 idk if you know what white washed even means but there are hundreds of exotic dishes cooked in slow cookers. Your comments makes no sense you unnecessary baboon
My mom is a Nicaraguan woman and married a Filipino man. He taught her how to make a variety of dishes: kare kare, pancit, kilawin, but my favorite growing up was her adobo. She would broil the chicken in loads of soy and used lemon in place of most of the vinegar. It was intensely salty and sour but it made the rice absolutely beautiful. It impressed my stepdad's sibling, who would put their own spins on it, one of his brothers added mustard even.
🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮
I'm very interested in this Mustard Variant. What type of mustard was it? A wholegrain type or not? Did it work well?
@@SenseiWuzi Unsure, I was young when he made it while visiting the US, although I imagine it was more granular than your average "yellow" mustard. It wasn't at all a dominant flavor, probably just used to substitute some vinegar and add some flavor. Probably less than a spoonful of that mustard went in there.
Please teach me, I’m a white washed Filipina and my mom never taught me LOL
@@soph3273 Pancit is probably the easiest of those dishes I mentioned. Basically you cook up vegetables. I like: onion, snow peas, mushroom, carrot, and cabbage. You could also cook up some chicken thigh too. Boil up some short rice noodles and add that into the pan you've fried everything else in and season with garlic and soy sauce until everything is pretty well-coated.
I love how supportive and non bitchy these ladies were. Also, adobo can be cooked stewy or dry. I tend to like mine on the dry side with a some spicy coconut dip on the side.
these are my favourite cast by far! So respectful and it seemed like they all have really fair marks. The food looked so yummy too
Such lovely and honest ladies. They all gave positive reviews and generally liked each other’s dishes.
Everyone’s dish looked soo good. Glad Mae won though!
Thank you so much 💜💜
By and large they were fair to each other, no suspiciously low marks, but as all the dishes were so different, and they all liked different aspects, I am actually still not sure what adobo is!
It’s just meat(typically chicken or pork) cooked with spices like black pepper corn, bay leaf, etc. and lots of soy sauce, sugar, and vinegar.
I've once heard someone remark that Adobo is more of a cooking technique than a specific recipe as the variants can vary by quite a bit and will depend on the region and family preference. The important ingredients are Soy Sauce, Sugar, Vinegar, Bay Leaf and Pepper Corn. The ratios on this vary a lot. I personally prefer mine with a very viscous sauce. 2 part vinegar to 1 part soy. Very little sugar if any. I like pepper in mine but I don't like the whole peppercorns so I prefer to grind before putting it in. Sometimes I'll put Coconut milk in too which is common in certain parts of the Philippines.
I've seen someone mention something in regards to Chili Con Carne that I think applies well to Adobo. "There's a thousand different ways and recipes that Chili is made. But once you've tasted it you know it's a Chili."
Agree! Filipino adobo is more a cooking technique than a dish. It’s basically “speed braising”., with flavor. The soy sauce and vinegar tenderize the meat so you don’t have to simmer it for ages.
@@SenseiWuzi not to forget garlic, garlic, and more garlic 😁
Not sure if it's just because they're Filo-British too (a lot more polite) but the US version usually had people who make unnecessary comments lol. I like this. I like the positive vibe.
Yes to peppercorns, bay leaf and plenty of sauce. Nice to see them compliment each other’s dish.
and garlic as well
i still dont get why you would put a whole peppercorn rather than at the very least cracking them up in the mortar and pestle. unless you cook the adobo for hours which is unusual, the peppercorn are just a bother.
They’re so much more complementary of each other than people are in most of these videos. Nicest people in the world.
I really like Mae and I'm happy she won, she only said good things about the other ladies' adobos and I appreciate that. I never had adobo with chicken and pork together tho but that's something I'm definitely gonna try. I think Analiza's adobo is the one closest to how I'd make it for others (super reduced) but I'd probably let the egg sit in the sauce for a bit to cure it and also have more sauce on it
No but I'm gonna need everyone in these comments to try adding soft boiled/jammy eggs to your adobo, it's life changing
done that before and its awesome
My sis in law is Filipino, Imma ask her to make this 😅
YES
yeeeeessss, also you can try making adobo with chicken gizzards. chicken hearts are my fave 💖
YUN
Such a pleasant video to watch. No one was unnecessarily mean and they all gave great criticism. They just seemed genuine and honest. I love them all. Such wonderful ladies!
I grew up on Filipino cuisine, even though I’m not Filipino I have a massive appreciation and love for the food, this was such an entertaining video. More Filipinos try episodes please!
Thank you.
“If the family loves it, that’s all that matters”. TRUTH!! My family only makes chicken (bone in y’all!) or squid (with the ink, people!). No pork. Then we add garlic and black peppercorns to the usual ingredients, and have lots of sabaw. Because you need sabaw to coat the rice.
Squid adobo is the one! 🙌🏼
Adobong pusit (Squid adobo) is my second favorite Filipino dish right after Pork sisig 😍
I love seeing how people cook their adobo differently. My family puts onions and sometimes potatoes. I know bretman rock's family had put bell peppers in there's. I never thought about putting chilli oil in adobo!
My mom and I put onions in ours too! I've had potatoes in it a few times as well
My mom and I LOVES spicy stuff and we put garlic chili oil in adobo. It’s GODSEND!
This makes me miss all the Filipino parties that used to get invited to as a kid going to Catholic school. The parties were always fun and filled with delicious food.
These ladies certainly all win the perfect skin contest
Love that everyone had their own versions and they were all so pleasant. No shade no bs.
The one lady who kept looking for the fat in the pork🤣🤣
That’s me!! Haha
@@FoodwithMae we're the same!!! I love fat from pork adobo esp if its liempo thats added in it. 🤤🤤🤤
This was one of the better groups! Everyone was nice and constructive.
1 medium yellow onion diced
4lbs boneless pork butt cut it to one inch cubes
4-5 cloves of garlic chopped
3/4 cup silver swan soy sauce
1/2 cup datu puti white vinegar
2tbsp whole pepper corns (put in tea bag if you don’t like them in food)
4-5 bay leaves
1 cup water…
That’s literally all you need
You forgot carrots, prunes and cheese
@@iLoveBoysandBerries nah man, when something’s perfect the way it is, you don’t mess with it. Brown meat on all sides in batches and set aside. Sweat onion in the pork drippings, add garlic and add the pork back in, stir in the soy sauce and vinegar, add the peppercorns and bay leaves, add water, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium low, simmer with lid on 30-45 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes so that the pork fat rises above the sauce. Skim the fat from the top and place back on heat, bring back to a simmer and stir in equal parts cornstarch dissolved in water until desired gravy consistency is reached. I find 2tbsp cornstarch to 2tbsp water makes the perfect slurry. Serve over jasmine rice.
As I write this down to recreate 📝📝📝 thanks
@@iLoveBoysandBerries you trippin right? 😂
Maybe garlic cloves are bigger where youre from….In the Philippines, for that much meat, we’d put a whole head of garlic.
I really like this show...Funny the one with the weirdest plate is always the most critical..
Frr like they always have a lot to say smh
So much positivity! I love it. Plus they were so critical with their comments but still gave high scores! Thats Filipinos for you!
Actually, adobo is a technique in cooking. It came from the Spanish word "adobar" which means to marinate. Traditionally adobo has a more salty and vinegary taste to it because of the use of vinegar and salt to marinate the meat which during the Spanish era is common to store the meat, but nowadays adobo is sweeter than the usual I think it is because every home has its own variation to it. And I just wanted to add that there is a lot of adobo version, there is "adobong puti" which is white because the soup doesn't have soy sauce in it, and there is also "adobong tuyo" which is dry adobo it is because they simmer it until the soup evaporated and the fat of the pork is the only thing that is left, there is also "adobong dilaw (yellow adobo)", "adobo sa gata (adobo in coconut milk)" and many more. There are also adobo dishes for vegetables. To be honest Chantelle's dish looks like Menudo to me, especially the way she cut the pork and the size of it seems like Menudo, you just have to put liver spread, tomato sauce and paste, potatos, green peas, hotdogs, etc.
We cook something very similar in Polynesia, pork marinated in soy sauce/oyster sauce on white rice 🍚 I'm craving it now!!
now it would be interesting to watch them try the other filipino women's lumpia
Not just Filipino women, but Filipino titas... because filipino titas throw some shade lol
I make this every week, I've been waiting for this one 😭 I'm half black half Filipino
I like this cast, can we see them try more Filipino dishes 😍🥰
They are all so sweet and kind!
This is the energy I love to see. More of three ladies, please!
Love watching this because I can’t get over their accents!! Born and raised in a Filipino household/community just listening to them is so different hehe
Yayy it is interesting to see Filipino food in this series and I really like these ladies. I am not Filipino but I love the fact that Filipino people are very friendly and kind. Speaking of Adabo, the ladies cooked their meals deliciously but Mae’s one is my favourite based on its presentation! 😍 well done ladies and I am looking forward to seeing you again on this channel 🤍🤍
@Grace I agree!!
The last three adobo dishes looked especially tasty. They looked very delicious
This was the nicest one. All the ladies seemed nice and supportive and provided constructive criticism. Many others seem so unnecessarily snarky.
I literally adore Mae after this! She was so kind and her criticism was gentle and constructive! More of her on this page! Don’t get me wrong, they were all lovely but Mae is just so sweet. I’d prefer to try new recipes on her because I feel like she’s honest and appreciative ❤
Thank you guys for this experience. This was sooo fun! ❤️🥹 I didn’t realise the different ways people made adobo and I think from this experience I want to try the different ways esp with the chili oil.
Didn’t mean to make a stir with the carrots 😅 I have had some similar before and with this is a version I found that I liked that add of a little crunch/veg to the dish. Slow cooking really helped tenderise the pork like crazy, I highly recommend!!! But noted, no carrots for next time - sorry guys 😂 I wish I put an egg in instead haha
Carrots are delicious in adobo, some people think they’re gordon ramsay and think that a single dish should be cooked only one way without any change at all which honestly makes no sense. Don’t feel like you have to restrict yourself to what the boring haters want.
@@ichiroch.3311 You sweetie! Thank you for sending through love ❤️✨
my boyfriend who is Filipino makes his adobo with carrots and potato, didn't know it wasn't traditional!
@@chantellea7554, I have few adobo recipes you can try cooking as well. Great to watch you four ladies enjoying each other's cooking 😍

I’m glad she won. Seemed the most humble.
As a Filipino Asian American I get so tripped out still every time I see Godfrey and these moms with their British English accents 😳
I'm also Filipino American, born and raised in Queens, NY and work in private equity in London. Doesn't shock me at all. If you travel a lot you'll see Asians with every type of accent.
Wonderful! I love the Filipino Aunties. Please make more Filipino dishes!
I love that Mae won she was so wholesome...and also she reminded me of my mom so she had my vote from the start
Thank you so much!
I loved how kind they were.
The fact is that no two adobo will taste the same. I cook and have tried so many versions of this Filipino dish💖🇵🇭
Fact, every home has their own adobo. Me personally I love the dry adobo where it's almost fried and the savory reduced sauce. But I still eat any kind of adobo coz it's too damn good!
This video made me so hungry!
I worked with a fellow called Florian who told me his recipe for Adobo. He would ask me every week if I made it. So when I finally cooked it I made sure to bring him some. Such a great dish
I wish I could try all these adobo dishes 😋 I also ❤️ how everyone was honest & recognized the deliciousness of the favorite adobos presented. This was 😎 👏🏽
These ladies are a pleasure to watch. They’re not rude about anything. I’ve never had Adobo but it sounds yummy…
I have a Filipino auntie in law and she’s always in the kitchen cooking it up. I never knew the name of this dish wad but now I know. Her’s is so good😭❤️
They were all so sweet 🥺🥰
I'm not going to lie, I would happily sit down and eat each plate of Adobo that was presented to me, and I'd probably rate all of these highly except for the one with carrots in it, though unconventional, it's something I wouldn't put in Adobo; I feel like it would take away from the flavour, in my opinion.
They all did a great job, and were very nice to each other's dishes!
Her adobo kinda reminded me of menudo/afritada tbh because of the carrots
ngl, to me, putting carrots or any veg in there is sacrilege, except for pineapples
a little Carrot actually sounds like a good compliment to the Soy, Vinegar flavor.👌
I've watched a lot of these videos but this is the first time I see all the contestants being respectful and appreciative of eachother’s dish. I love that She won! She deserves it because she gave everyone nice scores without holding back.
I love Filipinos...
Salamat everyone! (that's the only Filipino I know btw)
I love her comment, of her family likes it, that's all that matters!
The lady who likes fat 🤣🤣🤣 baibe you and me too 😂😂😂yessssssssss🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I only like fat on my oxtails. Not too much fat lol. I love the beef gristle too.
Me three🤣
They were so nice about each other's dishes. I really liked that
Love this cast! Please let them taste each other’s Pinoy spaghetti!!! ☺️
Adobo looks really good! I have to try it 😍😍😍🤤
I laughed when chantell said dont put whole peppercorns in your Adobo..the first and only Adobo that a co-worker gave me had tons of peppercorn, which I avoided but the food was DELICIOUS! Peppercorns have great flavor, I just don't like them whole. Biting into them can be intense lol
Yum. I like the different interpretation of adobo. Yummy comfort food. Decent scoring across the board. Let’s see more!
The one that appreciated each dish won of course ❤️
This made me crave Adobo 😩 loved seeing all the different variations 💫 they all looked so good (can they cook for me pleaseee 🙈🙈🙈)
I need a step by step recipe from each of these ladies please and thanks! These dishes look delicious
Oooh... I loved watching this... I would love to do this challenge with my family
I prefer chicken to pork adobo. I also add fried potatoes. This is a perfect way to balance out the sabaw if you find you added too much water
This was great!!
I will agree, the only thing I always separate from adobo is the black pepper ball.
I’m so hungry now 😭😭😭
Love this segment. All the ladies were complimentary to each other and gave good critique for their adobo dishes. I want some now😋
The woman respectfully of each other it’s so nice to see.
Mae’s food looked sooo GOOD 😍
Theyre all soooo pretty!
I grew up on my lola’s and my mom’s chicken adobo but it’s cool to see that people use pork as well. Now I want my mom’s adobo hehe
Thank god the nicest lady won!!! She was the kindest and most humble.. Love her

Outstanding Dish, My cousin Saaum was visiting my mom about 13 years ago and I was bumming around and smelled it to my surprise "Adobo"!" My mom fried the pork fat to a half Crackling texture and wok cooked the main dish together with it. "MindBlown".
I begged my mom to make it once more, I gotta get my Daughter to learn it she, like my folks loves Far eastern and Afro-Spanish food
My sister in law is Filipino I loved going over for parties growing up, they would have Filipino dishes and we had Puerto Rican food just delicious food all over 😋😋
I love how they were all pretty polite to each other’s dish except the young girl was more judgmental🤷🏽♀️ in some of these episodes the women like tear each other down but they were all really nice and complimented everyone’s food. Love that 🖤
What a fun video - I had the best time eating! Well done to Mae for having the best Adobo!! 🤤
Thank you so much! I enjoyed how unique everyone’s adobo was and loved the whole experience!
@@FoodwithMae, you're the best!😍😍😍
My mouth was watering during the whole video. I would love to try this dish 🤤
These were some of the nicest women critiquing each other. I really enjoyed this episode.
Adobo doesn't need to actually have soy sauce. If you have tried Adobo sa asin that doesn't require soy sauce (popular Adobo dish in Bicol). Also, my mom sometimes put potato and green peas on her Adobo. She also doesn't use bay leaves. There is is Adobo sa kamatis which has tomato.
I’ve been waiting for this episode!!! I love how honest and kind everyone was about their reviews. It’s funny to see how the one who’s always hypercritical always happens to get the lowest score…. Lmao. Awesome episode! 🥰🇵🇭
I’ve been waiting for this one
I loved all these ladies 😍
Can you do Puerto Rican’s try other moms/aunts pollo guisado 🥺
I haven't met any English Filipinos. These women are gorgeous!! 😍😍😍
Go to Earl's Court. There are lots of them.
It would be very cool to follow up on the winners and have them show us how they made their dish! I'd love to learn how to make some of these things
Personally I like mine with a lot of sauce too (since I mix it with rice), it's how I had it in the North, but a lot of people in Metro Manila make dry adobo, including my relatives. I also like it with bay leaves, peppercorn and with the right amount of vinegar and soy sauce. And yeah, it has to have a bit of fat. Sometimes I do like it dry too, but when it's fried lmao. It's what I do with leftover adobo. And fried adobo is one of my fave dishes
I loved this episode! All the food looked so good! Except for the one with carrots, that reminds me too much of a different filipino dish. Weird to put carrots in adobo but whatever floats your boat I guess :)
It looks like menudo than adobo
