this building is awsome! we should have more building types in the game and maybe more food choices! it is nice to personalize your own game with the buildings that you want but in the same time to require to go through all the research tree. is nice to have massive choices in a game
If you put the less common of the items in the center storages of the blueprint, it's less likely to get stuck with a bucket that the full-of-1-item trucks can't reach i.e. compost, gravel, crushed slag, and DU. Compost, as you mentioned, is very rare and unlikey. And l'm not sure who is doing it but there is no need to crush large amounts of rock or slag to just dump it in the sea. DU though depends on your playstyle
Question on the "standard" blueprint... would a truck be able to deposit a full load of dirt in the middle bucket? seems like it would be a little too far away
When I first built it I assumed no that they couldn't so I had the dirt buckets WAY WAY out in front, but then I tested it and they reached it fine. So I rolled with it
I'm interested to see how these perform when you use mega excavators and the big dump trucks. The input buffer seems pretty small and might cause trucks to idle waiting for a chance to go and dump off items.
With that setting enabled, If your have a sorter and its dirt output is attached to a bucket with the keep empty slider, then your trucks will complain about not having anywhere to dump their full dirt load (since the sorter will reject the full dirt load).
I think it's a "newbie friendly" default option. The "off" option only makes sense if you don't have any other storage buildings nor dumping spot planned for a given resource. It's so natural for any self respecting veteran player to have tons of storage that it's unfathomable someone might not build one. Or maybe it's for early game when you don't have storage buildings unlocked yet? Not sure if it's possible to skip them in the tech tree before unlocking sorter.
Because for the reasons mentioned by others below, also because ONCE u turn on Adv Logistics for the Mind Control Tower, they CANT just go dump say dirt in the sea, they NEED another dumping option IE a dedicated dirt bucket
I love your videos and blueprints. Did you make a video for the research lab print? If so, I couldn't find it and am needing clarification on how to set it up for level 3 labs. And in the update they just put out, they removed the quick build option for the vehicle depot.
I didn't make a video for the lab blueprint, for level 3 it should be hook up the inputs and then 'short circuit' the output lane to bypass where labs 4 would be and u should be good to go till you need to upgrade again
11:44 with those settings, they will also bring loads with dirt and Rocks only to a Ore Sorting Facility...do you get the catch? TLTR: If a truck has only Rocks and Dirt, it should NEVER go to a ORE Sorting Facility, witch as the name implies, is sorting ORE's. On this the Dev's have to put extra work into this. If I want to sort ore, I have to assume that they will bring Rocks and Dirt to. So I have to tell the Sorting Facility that it can accept Ore, Rocks and Dirt. Which makes them sorting Rock and Dirt, loads too, but they should only go there if there is at least a little ore in the truck. No real Ore Mine will send a truck loaded with dirt and Rocks (and no ore at all) to the sorting facility, they will dump that directly. The Ore Facility needs an extra "level". First you should define Product(s) should be sorted, and second witch "siede products" are allowed to be in the truck loads.. regards.
I assumed they would not be able to either, but then i tested it without issue. Technically they can get within 2 tiles which is the distance for close approach, if your worried u could move it back one tile for a direct connection and it would be closer for the trucks.
What if… I wanted to have one Ore Refinement center to centralize having all of my ore and raw material in one area to make it accessible to my smelters and assemblies. Think it’s possible? Or death by bottle neck
Nope its a feature all over the game to make sure you can move resources if you HAVE to as there is no way to force a truck to move a load to unstuck something.
I'm really confused. They seem useful early on before Advanced Logistics but after that is there a benefit to putting them into the sorter instead of the 3x2 grid of storage? A truck carrying iron ore and stone can put their iron in the iron storage, and the stone in the stone storage. What's the added value?
If you choose to use the sorter, the trucks will no longer be able to sort the different products for you. It's a realism-choice you can make before you start the game.
@@Griexxt Ahhhhh. Yeah, I get it now. Hmmm. I'm not sure if I want to play with that setting or not. I guess I'll play around with both before I stick to a save file. Thanks.
@@Dyskresiac Additional issue the sorters are causing is that their input capacity is limited to 360. So if you are using the haul dump trucks with truck overload edicts which brings their capacity to 234, the sorter needs to be less than 1/3 full for the haul truck to even be able to dump it's load in it - otherwise it will wait and do nothing. They need to make more variants of the sorter and rebalance it - the standard one is too big for early game and too small for late game.

my favorite part of any JD COI video is JD scolding trucks like they're puppies, like at 14:02
Thats probably cuz the partner brought home a puppy a few months ago...
SUPRISE JD we now ALSO have a dog!

Thanks for this JD! Needed it.
Thanks - Love Update 2 !!
I'm interested to see how these perform when you use mega excavators and the big dump trucks. The input buffer seems pretty small and might cause trucks to idle waiting for a chance to go and dump off items.
Then id ask why are you just building one of them? I think id have A ore sorter per 4 or 5 mega trucks.
I think there should be a level 2 one
@@colinwallace6569 They just buffed it in the latest patch. Now it scales with edicts just like truck cargo.
Great video explaining the ins and outs. Trunks never seem to do, what you need them to do, when you need them to. LOL
how is "reject single load" not on by default? there is nothing to be sorted here, so why send it to the ore sorter?

I like the new way you’re asking for a like!!
Thanks, I feel better asking to borrow a like, cuz that way you can have it back if you decided hell that video was crap and i didn't deserve it!

I was hoping you would do one of these!
COI: Extended Suite Package FOR UPDATE 2 . This adds in a ton of content including an ore sorter with a doubled capacity.
I havnt gone digging into mods just yet, but maybe update 2 is where i start adding some!
Interesting new building. Is the Ore Sorter needed when we ship in ore from oversea mines, or is it just for our home island.
The ore you get from overseas is not mixed, so you don't have to sort it.
Thank you JD! :)
15:30 can the trucks get to that middle container if they have a full load? it doesnt look like they can make the close approach as it were.
I assumed they would not be able to either, but then i tested it without issue. Technically they can get within 2 tiles which is the distance for close approach, if your worried u could move it back one tile for a direct connection and it would be closer for the trucks.
thx for the video. How can I increase the capacity of the ore sorter? Some of my sorter have more than 360 capacity and I cant figure out why
I can’t seem to find it to build it.
You need to have ore sorting enabled in difficulty options, otherwise the building won't show up on the list.
Its a new optional difficulty setting, you can change the difficulty in the settings menu and enable it if you wish
Thanks guys!
I must have missed something about update 2. Why would I need to build the sorter? Just seems to be an extra un needed step.
Its a optional difficulty setting
It's a difficulty setting you can toggle for added realism.
Great tutorial, I really needed that as I have already got into a mess with 4 different starts. 😢
Where is the ore sorter? Where is it located on the research tree? Can't find it.
It's a very early building, but you don't get it at all, unless you've toggled a certain option in difficulty settings.
What if… I wanted to have one Ore Refinement center to centralize having all of my ore and raw material in one area to make it accessible to my smelters and assemblies. Think it’s possible? Or death by bottle neck
I imagine the "feature" just magically moving the filtered resources to the dock is going to get fixed. It seems way too cheaty :D

@@Holtijaar Or just make more ore sorters? Because I can see thats what I will be doing in the late game
I DONT HAVE THAT?
You can enable it in difficulty settings, in an on-going game, I think.
You can sort six things, but only have four outputs? That seems to be an issue. I had not finished the video yet... ignore.
When I make a comment I later regret, I just delete it. Something to consider.
who has tryed to load this machine with a stacker ?
