    I don't think the Hoff deserves all the hate. He's a bit cheesy as Jekyll, but I think he's appropriately understated and chilling as Hyde.

    • @nathanjohnson1853
      @nathanjohnson1853 6 лет назад +4

      When they say "daughter" they're using it in the sense that he is a Bishop and a member of the clergy. He's her Father more than she's his actual biologic daughter. In fact, if I remember correctly, the woman in question is a prostitute. More just shows how the media (especially of the era) can be remarkably blind or willfully ignorant when it comes to the rich and powerful.

  • @Xenawarriorprince
    @Xenawarriorprince 13 лет назад +4

    You know how I'd like to see this performed? to have the chorus tone be more calm like 'oh this is probably just a rumor' in the beginning then as more ppl are murdered they start to freak out and their singing becomes more tense like "holy shit ppl are actually dying, but hopefully the police will handle it right?" then towards the end they just start paniking and freaked and are like "OMFG WE"RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!" it kinda does that here but I'd like to see it fled out more

  • @samlund8543
    @samlund8543 7 лет назад +12

    The way this went down at my school play was a little different:
    1. the group sang the first part of the song
    2. Hyde came in and snapped the General's neck
    3. More singing
    4. Jekyll appears to get some supplies, and gets snappy with his servant, implying to her that things are not going well for him
    5. More singing
    6. Three ladies run into Hyde. One of them, like a dick, leaves the other two girls behind(even pushing them towards him to distract him), one of whom is beaten to death, the other being strangled.
    7. Even more singing
    8. Lady takes to Emma's father(Forgot his name) about leaving London, implying that she did all she could to protect the other girls(Liar!) She starts to walk off, and then Hyde, from offstage, gives his "Bad news from god" line, and then, when the girl is close to the edge of the stage, knocks her off her feet and drags her off stage(That was hilarious to watch)
    9. Last bit of singing

    @musicalperson17 The umbrella thing: The setting is London, England. One characteristic of the English land is that it rains. A lot. Like, almost-every-day a lot. So, the umbrellas not only would have meant the rain, but I can see some sort of symbolism that they are trying to protect themselves from the murderer.
    At least, that's my take on it.
    And BTW: I LOVE that line, it's just so random! This is a pretty dark musical - and song - so they probably wanted to lighten the scene a bit.

  • @JekyllHydeLover17
    @JekyllHydeLover17 12 лет назад +1

    Yes. He was the last Broadway actor for Jekyll & Hyde. He had extensive experience and he made his Hyde creepy! Like popping out of nowhere at the end of the song "Murder, Murder" and showing his face at the horrifying closing moment of Act I-When Hyde kills his first victim, the Bishop of Basingstoke, and then after beating him up with his swordstick with a heavy pewter knob, Hyde puts the Bishop's body on fire! The murder of the Bishop is better than all the other murders!

    I love this version of this song. Even though I don't care for Hoff's Jekyll, his Hyde is awesome! The only thing I don't really like is the choreography. I love it in the beginning when they have those umbrellas, but I detest it towards the end, when all they are doing is frantically running around, it seems. I wish the umbrellas would've stayed consistent. Simply my opinion.

    Nobody never seems to remember Jekyll is pronounced 'Jee-kuhl'

    • @JaylukKhan
      @JaylukKhan 10 лет назад +1

      That's the Scottish pronunciation that Stevenson would have used. Most people are familiar with the English pronunciation, and considering the story takes place in London, that's probably okay.

    • @TheAtemAndrew
      @TheAtemAndrew 10 лет назад +1

      Yes, but it was also pronounced 'Jee-kuhl' in the original 1931 film, and was created as a pun of sorts, namely, Jekyll rhyming with Seek, as in 'Hyde and Jek(yll)'.
      In addition, in the period the book was written and set, 1886, immigration was strong from the spike in the early 1800s, meaning a large amount of the population would have pronounced it as such.

    • @JaylukKhan
      @JaylukKhan 10 лет назад

      Interesting. It would all depend on whether the character is English or Scottish. I haven't read it in a while, but is that ever clarified in the book?

    • @TheAtemAndrew
      @TheAtemAndrew 10 лет назад

      I don't recall..I doubt it though. However, there is this en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gertrude_Jekyll

    • @TheAtemAndrew
      @TheAtemAndrew 10 лет назад

      Also, from a certain viewpoint, the name being pronounced 'jee-kuhl' makes sence even from an American standpoint, what with the odd spelling of the name 'kyll' and the y being treated as a vowel now and again.
