    Welp, the first round of the Western conference is done. Here's some of what I saw, and what I believe is coming as the NBA gets a 2nd round match up that very well may top the finals in terms of viewership.

If y’all shoot 59% on ft with 27 attempts it results in a loss. On top of Sabonis being the mvp runner up but plays really like a Ben Simmons. If you exclude the 2021 playoffs(AD injured) for Lebron, the last time Lebron was eliminated from the playoffs that wasn't from a finals loss was 2010(2nd round exit). The last time time Curry was eliminated from the playoffs that wasn't in the finals was in 2014(first round exit).
    Someone is being eliminated in the 2nd round. It will feel weird because when we think of the teams of Lebron and Curry, they usually go to the finals and win or lose. It's been a long time since either one lost before the finals.

    I'm glad we finally get to see a Warriors-Lakers series where both teams are at a comparable level. Agree with your thoughts - I think a couple things will be key -
    1 - How will LA and Golden State target each other? We know Anthony Davis is much, much more mobile than Sabonis. The Grizzles felt that. I'm expecting to see more switching from AD, less paint presence for the Warriors, just as I'm expecting Draymond's defense on LeBron (or whatever other big wing he guards) to be critical, but given that AD is mostly a non-shooter, will the Warriors be playing off of him, what form does that take, and how will that compare to how LA will try to exploit Draymond? Will we see some screens inside the 3-point line to get Davis open as a lob threat, like earlier in LA's season?
    2 - How does LA hold up against the Warriors' movement? They have great defensive personnel and size, and can shrink the floor while hustling and cutting off lanes to the rim, however, as good as Jarred Vanderbilt & Dennis Schroeder were at staying connected to guys off of screens, can they adjust when they have to go over and track Steph & Klay for a whole game? Do Vando's offensive shortcomings limit his minutes here, and if so, how do the Lakers respond?
    3 - What version of LeBron do we see in this series? At times he had some solid games, but at other times, fatigue and his recent foot injury seemed to catch up with him. In a series where some of the bench pieces might struggle a bit, will LeBron be able to ramp it up? How much does having an off shooting year like this impact his ability to manipulate the defense and create open looks?
    Also agree with your feelings about PHX. As a Suns fan (nominally, at least), I feel that (1) given that Chris Paul isn't what he was even last season, let alone two years ago, this is not a superteam; (2) they're clearly still integrating KD into the offense, and while Monty Williams is great at putting in structure and discipline on both ends, he's not an Erik Spolestra. He's not going to go out there and just do crazy shit nobody else would've thought of, and that structure is still being developed; (3) PHX lacks depth. And I mean they seriously lack depth. Outside of those four guys there's a big drop-off - no disrespect to Ish Wainwright, TJ Warren, Terence Ross, or Torrey Craig - they're valuable, but two of those guys as starters, when two picks are limited offensively and two defensively? I just don't think it's enough, and that, along with the math problem and Chris Paul's understandable lack of willingness to take a bunch of pull-up threes (and age limiting his ability to get to the cup) means I'm fairly confident Denver is winning this series. They still have defensive issues, and Jokic has had some weird stuff going on (his touch isn't what it normally is - I heard he might have a wrist injury), but I think their depth relative to the Suns and their ability to mix up their coverages a little bit will get them this series in 6.
    I got the outcomes of the Lakers-Grizzles, Warriors-Kings, Celtics-Hawks, Clippers-Suns, & Nuggets-T-Wolves series correct, with the Warriors, Suns, Nuggets, & Lakers right on the money.
    My predictions for these series were:
    Celtics in five (will probably be wrong on the number since Philly won game one)
    Nuggets in six
    Lakers in 7 (just decided on this one)
    Heat in 7
    Honestly, I hope I'm right with these predictions, because then we get to see a Nuggets-Lakers and Celtics-Heat rematches that could lead to a repeat of the 2020 Finals or a classic Celtics-Lakers showdown, which is something we haven't had since...2010?

    • @lucasrego3874
      @lucasrego3874 Год назад +4

      I think Bron will have a much better time in this series, even though his foot likely isn't getting any better. Sometimes he didn't want to drive bc he saw that JJJ was ready to play help side defense but the warriors dont have interior defense like that. I think the deciding factors likely will be the rebound battle between AD and Looney and if the Lakers can hit their outside shots at a decent clip. One huge advantage the warriors have is coaching, and it likely will matter a lot in this series since Darvin Ham has been very slow to adjust lineups and rotations

    • @navonmyhand7999
      @navonmyhand7999 Год назад +1

      Great analysis but I think you mixed-up by asking "how does LA's defense react to Warriors" after point 1 and point 2 instead of saying "how does Golden State react to the Lakers actions" the first time.
      Also one last thing you didn't mention but I think is significant with a Lakers/Nuggets and Heat/Celtic conference conference Finals would be the same as the bubble matchups, maybe that would finally put to rest some of the arguments for those teams (besides the Celtics) that those runs weren't flukes but legit since they were able to all do it again 3 years later - with the same stars but different supporting casts.

    • @seansachs6105
      @seansachs6105 Год назад

      @@navonmyhand7999 Thanks for pointing that out! Yeah, having the matchups be the same as what they were in the Bubble would help put to rest some of the "fluke" talk, especially for Denver - it feels like a decent chunk of people are convinced you can't build a good defense around Jokic and are convinced he's not an MVP-level player because of that. For GSW and Miami, it'd be validation as well, but I feel like the expectations weren't very high for either team heading in. Either way though I'm really excited.

    Warriors fan here. Kuminga 100% plays. For a couple of reasons. 1. He guarded Lebron well in the regular season and a few ball dominant super stars really(Kahwi and PG come to mind) Guarding in Iso is hos stronges skill. 2. Hes fresh and with a 1 day of rest set up we are gonna need him. 3. How much he plays will depend on his volume of mistakes. I can almost promose u he plays at least 10-15 mins game 1 and if those go well he could play as many as 25 in the series. The reason he didnt see the floor in the kings series is the ball movement. Hes a A- on ball defender but once the ball starts shooting all around he has a tendancy to foul and get flustered. Personally i think u also see alot more of Moody in this series. Hes also one of the most fresh and can guard like sized guys. Whitch is basically everybody besides lebron and AD. JMG could also see more minutes in this series because he basically DNPd the kings series. Hes more hit or miss though. Some games hes ass on defense and gets like 1 board and 4 pts. And some games he hits 3-5 3s has 5 boards and a block and isnt a traffic cone. But its alot more often that hes just meh. Jordan Poole has to fix his season in this series to keep pace with the lakers others. Thats the real X factor here. That and the lakers health....could easily see the lakers get thanosed into dust if AD breaks anything and with a 1 day rest speed run i dont think its likely he plays every game. Another factor in a complete shift of the warriors roll players is how small they all are. Trying to play Devenchenso and GP2 or lamb is asking for trouble vs this big ass team

    The Warriors will struggle with defense, they'll probably incorporate a box and 1 strat to clog up the paint to slow down AD. Offensively they can spam High PnR and AD will either be stuck in the paint or be put on an island with the faster Warriors team. I predict Lebrons passing will be what tips the scale in the Lakers favour and if the Warriors can stop that then D'lo will have a fantastic series as the Warriors will have to depend on him missing.
