@@SirBrinyolf still doesnt make it more suspicious. i mean, why contact a lawyer due to lets say. a neighbour dissapearing. or a nephew. it would only raise suspicion and if you truly are innocent it also distracts from the investigation as you are basically calling attention towards yourself. i mean, i understand why people in america are adviced to lawyer up right away. but it really doesnt make all that much sense to me as to how this would help. over here it would be seen as suspicious as hell. but then again, we dont have prosecutors who only go out to try and get a guilty verdict. instead they are actually focussed on the truth. which also means that serious court cases can and will take years to actually conclude. theres one ongoing courtcase that has been ongoing for at least 10 years now. and the main reason why it keeps going is cuz they dig up more and more bad shit. the case is against one of the biggest criminal leaders in our country.
According to some other comment he was a victim of political steamrolling, apparently he had already dropped two monitors off at the courthouse to be used there and was bringing the third to the jail to be used in phone calls. Just spreading what sone other person said in the comments I have no idea if any of its true. But he got far too severe a punishment, if one was even warranted at all, and his plot for revenge was bron of this wrong. He was somewhat a victim, it seems, but I don't think his actions are anywhere near warranted.
Agreed. There's something else going on here, more than just this guy deciding to steal 3 monitors. I can't help but feel that maybe there was a miscommunication somewhere, somehow and someone whom he had gotten into a pissing match at some point used it as an opportunity to f him over. I've seen things like that before....someone steps on someone else's toes (and trust me, I live in Texas, people carry grudges with them over the slightest provocations to their graves). That someone else sits and bids their time, sometimes for years, waiting for the opportunity to get even and when that opportunity presents itself, they jump on it...even if they've forgotten what the provocation was.
Your basic narcissistic sociopath, "I'm smarter than everyone." Dude commits crime, gets busted, and it's everyone's fault but his. Never ceases to amaze me how murderers can convince others (wife) to then help! Over monitors? Death penalty is too good for them.
I actually think he might of legitimately thought they were spare monitors that were fine to take. He is just a complete social outcast and somehow got caught up in that. Heaps of IT places give away old equipment
Kieran Bratson as a military veteran and working with them as a civilian, there’s no such thing as spare items; monitors or something else. Everything is accounted for, and is recycled, it’s never for free or to borrow. There has to be chain of the items, where they are, who they are assigned to, how many, etc. No way he didn’t know this if he worked for the county, state, or government. Someone else asks why do they do this if they have money? It’s not about having money. Some people get a rush from stealing. Winona Ryder comes to mind; caught shoplifting at the prime of her career. It’s just like any other form of addiction. ✌️
I suspect the wife is far more content in prison than she ever was with the murderous narcissist. At the very least she knows her current prison guard isn't going to execute her for crossing him. Her life must have been miserable.

This guy was a Mensa member, and he went ahead to steal monitors under crystal clear surveillance? I think maybe membership for Mensa should be re-evaluated.
He wasn't stealing them. Other sources show that he was using them for work. Two were found in his office (in the building) and one was found in his truck to take to the jail for video calls with prisoners.

At first I was appalled at the petty felony prosecution for the computer monitors, but by the end I'm thinking maybe he'd been doing a lot of crimes they couldn't prove so when they got him on the monitors theft they went all out.
True, there was a lot more egregious behavior. There's a book about it that documents the case more extensively. The theft was a clear cut case they could use to stop his reign of abuse of power.
He lost more than a good name. He lost his ability to make a living for himself in the field he devoted his life & education to. He lost the insurance which was paying for his wife's cancer. No, still not justifiable in any way...but they took a lot more from him than his respect.
@Hernando Malinche Where are you guys getting the notion that he was ordered to? Or as someone else put it, he was taking it upon himself to take them home to repair them? Is this from some random "Free Nutjob X" facebook group or something?
The dirty DAs shouldnt have went further to sabotage the mans life. But the killer shouldve just took the deal, bc over 1000$ theft is a felony most states. So he should've took the deal, he thought he was above the law and was super salty afterwards.
I actually found that little clip pretty telling. He said all the expected things during the interview that suggested he supported law enforcement and the attempts to find the killer, but then whimsically goes out of his way to splash through a puddle as he leaves and turns back to make sure that the reporter/camera person caught that. Contextually that was a complete emotional tone mismatch. He was celebrating, like a child. Wee! Nailed the interview! Now you morons will never catch me! That coupled with the fact that if you watch as he is speaking he micro smirks a few times because he just can't keep his elation hidden well enough.
So jarring seeing such intense action on part of law enforcement, when in other cases involving regular citizens or even serial killings the law enforcement seem to always be half assing it lol
I used to laugh at the Irish use of th, but after living in Ireland for 5 years I started to understand. The Irish language does not have two consonants together. Hence the need to only pronounce one or insert a vowel, eg filim for film.
Oh wow, I am from Kaufman and have family who were close to this. This was really detailed coverage. The one thing you missed was that he didn’t steal the monitors for his home use. He requested new monitors for his office and his employees, but his request was denied because of politics (him backing Mike’s competition.) So he went and relocated those “tree” monitors from an office not being used to his. Also they didn’t find the car on both tapes until after he was already arrested. What got him arrested was the FBI back tracing the anonymous tip line to him. It wasn’t so anonymous.. that was controversial for everyone at the crime stoppers. Great coverage though! It’s crazy seeing something I was so close to and knew people it affected!!
Thank you for a bit of back story there because that makes more sense about the monitors. I thought he was behaving in a way that he felt entitled to have them. There was definitely some nasty politics going on. Nevertheless, his reaction to kill for revenge was very OTT.
Why wasn't this mentioned? Well That Chapter does add his own personal take on these stories. People need to remember this and take it as entertainment because they are NOT getting the full story.

It's not stupidity that is the downfall of the powerful, wealthy and cunning...it's arrogance. How often have we heard "they became too overconfident, thought themselves untouchable and too smart" that they end up making the most simplest of mistakes.?
@@AdmiralBison yeh thats what im thinking; maybe this guy has been told he's smart since a young age, got into the schools he wanted, got the job he wanted, just never got told 'no'. so the one time he did, he didnt know how to handle himself, n went full mental
I call it Kirwan-Lee Syndrome, (it's kind of the opposite of Dunning Kruger Syndrome) when someone is so smart that they couldn't possible learn anything from a lesser intelligence and therefor don't. (I named it after two personal cases)
It's funny you say that because I've always said that if I had to choose between book smarts and street smarts, I'd pick street every single time. I've met some of the stupidest educated people in my life.
I was a member of MENSA and I choose to use whatever intelligence they claim I have to experiment with creating new strains of marijuana. Some call me a monster lol
Having a greater capacity to learn doesn't mean you've actually used that greater capacity to actually learn anything. One has to put in work to use that intelligence to actually get any benefit from it. A less intelligent person who puts in the work might take longer and find it harder to gather a bunch of knowledge and learn a bunch of skills, but they'll still surpass the more intelligent person who just sits on his hands all day spending his time collecting guns. Plus, of course, intelligence has no bearing on various kinds of neuroticism one might have (or maybe it does, maybe being intelligent makes you more likely to be neurotic, wonder if there are studies on that. My money is on the notion that if intelligence has any bearing on levels of neuroticism at all, its that it increases neuroticism rather than the other way around. Just my gut feeling on the matter though).

I was telling my son the other day not to do something that he believed he could get away scott free with. I told him to please reconsider because it could cause so much more pain than it is worth. Natural consequences to bad choices and to think you can get away with things are worse than being persecuted.
He was actually using them to build a security system for the courthouse. It seems that they prosecuted him for political reasons instead of just telling him to put them back because they were for something else. He still should have just taken the misdemeanor.
@@williewoodall8305 You are funny. I, too, get a smile whenever he says anything with a 'th'. I wonder if it's a regional Canadian accent(I know many Canadians who pronounce the 'th'), or a speech impediment.
I know that seems incriminating and this guy is obviously guilty, however the grinning alone is not necessary a sign of guilt. People behave in different ways under stress. Polygraphs don’t work and studying body language doesn’t work.
I live in Kaufman county, people still bring this up at the bars I go to out here. This was huge news while it was going on and everyone had their theories of who was behind the murders. A few of my family members were friends with Mark, we all kept a close eye on the investigation while it was going on. Mike and his wife lived 5 minutes from my house in Forney, I didn't know them but it was the biggest news story for months. RIP Mark, Mike and Cynthia.
I am a Kaufman native and I remember the day this happened. I had just graduated from Kaufman high school in 2012 was staying at a friend's house. When I woke up that morning the first thing I heard from my friend was, "The ADA has been assassinated in the square..." I was only a few miles from the square. When I went outside I could count 3-4 helicopters circling Kaufman. For the next couple of days we had police officers from surrounding cities posters on just about every main road and high way in the town. It was crazy.
Turns out he wasn’t stealing the monitors for his own personal gain, 2 of them ended up being used for the courthouse surveillance system, and the other one was in his truck (intended to be brought to the jail house to be used for an inmate video-call system). He got politically steamrolled, and thus the murder revenge ball got itself rolling
@@ArtOfficialKreations now that makes a whole lot more sense! Thank you! Im kind of surprised Mike didn't explain how this guy actually was a bit of a "victim" of an injustice of sorts and decided to let it become his main goal in life to get revenge by any means.
Professor Swaggamuffin This guy was no “victim” at all. If he actually didn’t steal the monitors and they were supposed to be where they were, the charges would have been dropped and the case would have been dismissed. Why didn’t anyone vouche for him then? I don’t believe he was steamrolled one bit. I’m sure, with all his guns, he was just looking for a reason to kill.
@@ArtOfficialKreations That's what I heard too. But he didn't follow through protocols in acquiring the monitors therefore it can be considered as stealing. I understood that the prosecutors were his rival (as he supported their opponents), it was a political move to prosecute him and remove him from his position. But it didn't mean that they needed to be murdered.

I mean obv the only info that gets put out there esp on tv is only the info they allow which isn’t right but shit be the whistleblower man..lol
Let's put it this way, without saying to much politics and law were ran on what we call the "good ole boy" system, Williams was not exactly seeing eye to eye with several of the people in charge so they figured out a way to set him up on robbery charges in order to remove him from office, what put the gears in motion for him to commit murder is anyone's guess but the crooked politics are definitely partially at fault
I need 10 hours of your voice, uninterrupted. It's very soothing and I love the stories but it's also perfect to fall asleep listening to. Which is helpful for someone who suffers from dreadful insomnia. So thanks for both stories and the rest.

2. return to the scene of the crime the next morning. use your segway
3. go on the news and give an interview about how awful it is while on your segway
4. still on your segway, talk about what a great job the police are doing
5. segway away, doing a little splash in a puddle and then wave to the news, smiling.

That moment you hit refresh and there's a new That Chapter. Makes the day worth it!
Lawyering up does not mean guilt. It is a MUST when dealing with law enforcement
“Anything you say CAN and WILL be used against you.” That about sums it up. Even if you shoot someone who is trying to kill you, refuse to speak until you have an attorney. Be cooperative and calm but don’t answer ANY questions.
They're trained how to trip people up with words and wear them down. Get a lawyer
Yeah. But lawyering up before being in contact with law enforcement is kinda sus
@@112523 Its literally what you are supposed to do
@@SirBrinyolf still doesnt make it more suspicious. i mean, why contact a lawyer due to lets say. a neighbour dissapearing. or a nephew. it would only raise suspicion and if you truly are innocent it also distracts from the investigation as you are basically calling attention towards yourself.
i mean, i understand why people in america are adviced to lawyer up right away. but it really doesnt make all that much sense to me as to how this would help.
over here it would be seen as suspicious as hell. but then again, we dont have prosecutors who only go out to try and get a guilty verdict. instead they are actually focussed on the truth. which also means that serious court cases can and will take years to actually conclude. theres one ongoing courtcase that has been ongoing for at least 10 years now. and the main reason why it keeps going is cuz they dig up more and more bad shit. the case is against one of the biggest criminal leaders in our country.
I feel like this goes much deeper then a few monitors, just a lot unsaid.
was just about to write exactly that, god knows what was going on behind the scenes,
According to some other comment he was a victim of political steamrolling, apparently he had already dropped two monitors off at the courthouse to be used there and was bringing the third to the jail to be used in phone calls. Just spreading what sone other person said in the comments I have no idea if any of its true. But he got far too severe a punishment, if one was even warranted at all, and his plot for revenge was bron of this wrong. He was somewhat a victim, it seems, but I don't think his actions are anywhere near warranted.
@Jesse Brennan - exactly civilians are innocent most of the time.
Conspiracy theory???
CandiGale73 yes, agreed! This is something a 20 year old would think is ok & innocent. Not some 45 year old educated dude. Fry his fat AS$

At first I was appalled at the petty felony prosecution for the computer monitors, but by the end I'm thinking maybe he'd been doing a lot of crimes they couldn't prove so when they got him on the monitors theft they went all out.
I'd say that's the most likely scenario
True, there was a lot more egregious behavior. There's a book about it that documents the case more extensively. The theft was a clear cut case they could use to stop his reign of abuse of power.

Never noticed how often the english language uses the "th" sounds until I started watching this channel.
I used to laugh at the Irish use of th, but after living in Ireland for 5 years I started to understand. The Irish language does not have two consonants together. Hence the need to only pronounce one or insert a vowel, eg filim for film.
You do a good job dude. Haven't watched a video from you that I didn't like. Keep up the good work.

Not at all. I always pre-like Mike’s videos.
Never been disappointed.
I want to him to explain his reasoning for lifting the monitors. Why did he think he could just take stuff?

Cops when a regular citizen is murdered: Evidence? meh. Their spouse did it, lets lock them in a room and badger them until they say something vaguely resembling a confession.
Cops when a District Attorney is murdered: Call the Texas Rangers, Call the FBI, Call the President, Call Interpol, Call Scotland Yard, we will NOT rest until this killer is brought to justice!!
Cops when an unarmed black man is murdered: “That particular individual had an outstanding warrant for unpaid child support, plus he was probably reaching toward his waistline, because we asked the officer who was involved in the altercation and he said he definitely felt threatened. There will not be any further investigations, and certainly no charges will be brought against officer So&So. As a precautionary measure, however, he will be temporarily placed on paid vacation **leave!** The officer will be placed on *paid leave!!*”
Pat yourself in the back... You're super woke... All the Karen's love you
@@ArtOfficialKreations hey Mike... How should cops act? Are we expecting them to sacrifice their lives? No matter what?
How is a police officer supposed to enter a dangerous situation?
Please tell me a better way, I beg of you... honest talk, what are you really mad about?
Jesse Brennan I’m aware, but the district attorney is allied with the police. He’s the legislative side that helps convict the people the police arrest.
@A Sojourner I am not aware of BLM murdering anybody. I am going to need a reliable citation for that.
Mike, you’re doing awesome!! Thank you for your content. 🖤
My favourite RUclipsr! Can't wait to see you reach 500,000 Mike. You definitely deserve it 👍
Edit: who the hell dislikes Mike's videos? Jealous.
Thank you so much Helen!
@@ThatChapter You are so welcome! You had about 100,000 when I subbed. Your channel has grown so quickly since then. People have been realising how great your videos are at the rate of knots!
This is my favorite channel by far. Mike is contagious

Great job on the video.
Laughed out loud when you said “giddy up” with your wonderful accent!
I live in the south and I totally love it when you get to hear people with real non-Hollywood southern accents. I know we get stereotyped a lot but I understand why. God, its funny
This is crazy, I was a Freshman in high school at Kaufman when this happened. We had a full district wide lockdown for almost 8 hours. It was weird because we’ve had several by this time for small things like prisoners from the county jail walking off during community work but when we heard what happened it was surreal.
Move away from there it's very dangerous place to live in...
I actually worked at that county and many of those still there remember this happening. I had no idea until they talked about the news coming out to film a special and I got to watch it.
So many ppl uploading all at once but That Chapter is always my first choice!
There has been huge change since 2013. Now, there would almost certainly be lots of video of the street and inside the DA's house, etc.
