    Driving topless is cool with the Landy series. I replaced the rear door with a loading flap and cat flap to get a clear dividing line all around. The HT can thus be lifted off as a whole. Dismantling takes about 20 minutes. The assembly takes about an hour. Placing seals correctly and making the many small holes between the windshield and HT fit is a bit of a fumbling, but it pays off for driving pleasure. The dismantled HT lives in the summer, hung up with two tension belts under a slightly raised car port. So you can drive underneath for assembly and simply lower the HT onto the Landy's body. Then everything is screwed back together and off we go on the wild ride into the winter season with the loud, rattling landy tin roof.

      That's the dream setup, at this point in time we sadly don't have a car port or garage with enough height. For now full disassembly it is!

      @@David-zv2ob Was the same her. Finally we decided to extend the Car-Port legs for about 60 cm - it is a metal cnstruction and it was a quick welding job. I guess it will be more difficult with a wooden car port.

    Or, if you have garage space, and enough garage height...back it in, loop some straps through the garage rafters and back side windows, unbolt from the windscreen area and the tub, then hoist the entire assembly up. One man job and you don’t need to separate the sides from the roof. Handy place to store it too. Watch for the wiring running to the roof lamp. (Update: Just noticed your back side windows don’t slide open, and remembered last time I pulled the roof one of my straps went underneath the roof at about where the doors are...it’s been several decades)

    • @David-zv2ob
      @David-zv2ob  3 года назад +1

      This exact plan went through my head at a few times, sadly the garage is filled with bikes (we're Dutch, duh) and not even close to being tall enough.
      Even with the windows not sliding open it would be possible in one way or another, but for now this is the best option.
      In the past we took the whole thing off in one piece and then stored it on top of the garage, that was pretty sketchy :)

    Excellent video! My series 2a has a soft top, but I might buy a hard top for the winter.

    • @David-zv2ob
      @David-zv2ob  3 года назад +1

      Before buying one i'd suggest trying one out. With the hardtop on it gets a bit more noisy and i don't think the hardtop is that much warmer. The hardtop is definetly better at keeping water and snow out of the vehicle, some things to consider

    Almost all bolts and nuts are not original. A canvas soft top is less noisy than the hard top and warmer too. Just tighten the canvas up, and it will not vibrate while driving. Keep on rolling!

    • @David-zv2ob
      @David-zv2ob  3 года назад

      About those nuts and bolts, yeah this Landy has seen a lot of tinkering. Next video the canvas top will be installed!

  • @Luca-hc6wo
    @Luca-hc6wo 2 года назад

    I find it easier to take the top off sides and all - you get to skip all those nice easy bolts along the top, and only have to do those nasty ones on the bottom corners haha

    • @David-zv2ob
      @David-zv2ob  2 года назад +1

      If you have the space to store the top in it's full glory, definetly. Sadly we don't have that luxury, so this way works okay for us :)

    Hi David, do all of them have the sides come off that easily as I am kind of torn between popping my hard top on instead of the soft tip but then it will be a pain to remove, Dankjewel!

    • @David-zv2ob
      @David-zv2ob  2 года назад

      Always a struggle to choose which one to put on. The funny thing is that the soft top is probably warmer during winter than the hard top. Still we always put the hard top on when it gets cold.
      Good luck Boude
