  • People on Paradise or Planet 4 are not Engineers.
The planet David bombed is not the Engineers home wold.
Many people have assumed that they are Engineers because at the end of Prometheus Shaw instructed David to take her to the engineer homeworld to obtain the answers. But given that Shaw was put in cryosleep and David always has his own plans, he could go to a completely another planet.
Based on that and other evidence from the movie and the Prologue Promo I think that those humanoid beings that David bombed are not Engineers and I have a theory how they relate to humans and the actual engineers that we’ve seen in Prometheus. Ridley also never said they’re not Engineers, he left it quite ambiguous for people to ponder and think.
If they were Engineers and David Destroyed them then who’s in the space jockey seat that would be discovered 30 years later.
Also, When David lands the Juggernauts, these beings are marveling and excited at the presence of the ship. If you look closely you’ll see a crowd flow out from some kind of temple to a massive arena.
They also look slightly different than Engineers, they’re equally bold for some reason but their skin is not as pale and they're are shorter.
Also If they were Engineers, they would have countermeasures due to being experienced in the effects of the Goo since it appears that they created the Black Goo in the first place.
The inhabitants of the Paradise don’t have any means of protection and when David attacked them They all just ran, confused and unable to grasp what was happening and how they could survive it.
The city was noticeably rural and primitive even compared to the current urban architecture not even considering that Engineers are intergalactic and highly advanced species capable of creating life.
All this evidence leads to the point that people that David destroyed are completely another race created by Engineers. Possibly their planet is another branch of "humanity" seeded by the engineers just like the earth was. By their appearance, they are genetically closer to Engineers than humans.
Inhabitants of Paradise worshiped Engineers and viewed them as their Gods, Pretty much like ancient civilizations on Earth. in their mythologies, it written that a long time ago Gods lived amount ordinary people and ruled them. Gods are also portrayed like giants in Ancient Egypt and other cultures which is so similar to what we See in Prometheus and Alien Covenant.
Probably Engineers left the Planet 4 a very long time ago, just like they left Earth and finally after 2000 years the Juggernaut finally arrives and these people celebrate the return of Engineers. But unfortunately it’s David and not their creators.
But I think he knew that the Planet was populated by other humanoid species and purposely destroyed it for another reason. Since David is obsessed with killing his creators and the creators of his creators he thought that the Black Goo would not be strong enough as a weapon to whipe out the Engineers. For this reason he decided to make the entire Planet his own laboratory and turn its humanoid inhabitant into lab rats to develop xenomophs an ultimate weapon that would be capable of destroying Engineer and their Planet.
It looks like his plan was such full and at the of Alien: Covenant, he has xenomorphs and the entire ship at his disposal.
Actually a few days ago, a screenwriter Damon Lindelof who worked with on Ridley Scott , said in an interview that the planet that we see in Alien Covenant is not Engineer home world. It’s not exactly what Damon and Ridley original planned for it and the planet ended up being a detour settlement for what can be actual Engineer home world.
There is also one inhabitant that steps out of the crowd when the Juggernauts arrives.
Another interesting detail is that there are no Females in the crowd on Paradise. Perhaps their species themselves are engineered. They may not be born or have an entirely different mode of reproduction that is dependent on Engineers. Perhaps they need some version of the Black Goo to reproduce and since Engineers did not appear for hundreds of years, their race was slowly dying off. To the point that there is one city left on the entire planet and its inhabitants celebrated the arrival of Jugernauts because they thought it would literally give them life. If this theory is true, then maybe When David learned the Engineer ways, he also learned about this planet and thought and it would be better to destroy this kind of humanoid race and stop thier slow and painful extinction

I think they can still be engineers. My theory is that engineers in Prometheus were genetically improved through technology. Remembering the video about the dialogue between the engineer and David, the engineers wanted to either create a species that was not too technologically advanced or that was pacifist, so that it can be sustainable. Humans were a failed attempt at this creation, so they wanted to reboot them. The engineers themselves were not sustainable, either because they had too much technology or were too aggressive. The alien ships in Prometheus were trying to invent ways to save their species, that's why David and Shaw are received by a cheering crowd when arriving at the new planet. David becomes disgusted at the engineer species, as he used to considered them superior and now he sees them living in huts, so he wipes them out and decides to create himself the superior species. This ties in the themes of technology and pacifism, as David is the epitome of these two features: he is the result of extreme technological development (AI) and he creates the least pacifist species, an ultra-aggressive parasite.

Another theory i have is that the engineers were in decline due to having lost their ability to reproduce, as revealed by the original script, but before their numbers dropped to a critical point, they were able to create a new species SIMILIAR to themselves. One that would preserve their history and culture and therefore not be lost to history. And perhaps the engineers didnt give these planet 4 beings all their advanced technology as they feared it might corrupt them and cause their extinction.

  • @passingoutnails

All of the engineer's depicted in Prometheus and Covenant can be explained by a class system and their ability to manipulate genetics. There are 3 types of engineers shown in the prequels: regular engineers, sacrificial engineers, and military engineers. 1). Regular engineers, shown in the extended earth-seeding scene in Prometheus and in Covenant being exterminated, seem genetically varied/imperfect and probably reproduce naturally. 2). Sacrificial engineers, shown in Prometheus, have perfectly symmetrical god-like features and proportions and were probably grown in a lab to ensure there DNA was worth replicating. 3). Military engineers, seen in Prometheus, also have perfect, god-like features but also a special bio-mechanical body augmentation to aid in space travel/battle presumably (also lab born). They seem to have a society like Plato's Republic, various levels with various roles (presumably more than these 3), and only those who require genetic alteration/advantage will receive it based on their duties. The really old, native american looking engineers depicted in the extended seeding scene in Prometheus and in stone head statues in Covenant are presumably philosopher king types, wise old elites.

    • @passingoutnails
      @passingoutnails 7 лет назад +22

My question is If populating distant planets is so easy for engineers to do naturally/biologically as is seemingly depicted by the settlement in Covenant then why all the genetic goo and waiting billions of years for evolution to run it's course (just to just wipe them out). Seems like they could get a new planet up and running much faster by the means used by the colonist on Covenant. We went from 1 billion people to 7 billion people in 100 years on Earth. That settlement in Covenant was pretty small for having been around since life began evolving on Earth...

If you look into the whole concept of Lemurians vs the Atlanteans, the theme of the more human-looking "engineers" vs the scientist, aeronaut Engineers takes shape. One group is the more primitive, human-like inhabitants living in Paradise (Lemuria) & from them evolved the Atlanteans which led to science/technology overtaking nature due to being taken too far. This caused a distinct separation of the 2 groups. Lemuria was called paradise. The Lemurians were a peaceful humanoid people. The Atlanteans ended up destroying everything and there was a mass cataclysm. Nature was destroyed due to science. Very similar themes and many parallels. Love your videos!

My thought. The Engineers have access to time travel. The beings seen in Covenant (the civilization) and Prometheus (the ones that seeded Earth) are Engineer predecessors. These ancestors have encountered their descendants before, hence their excitement at the arrival of the Juggernaut. It's possible the Engineers visit their ancestors regularly to offer knowledge and protection. Explaining the presence of the Mother Juggernaut ship, in that it was left behind as a watchtower and threat deterrent (as it appears to have shot down the Juggernaut). These ancestors seeded Earth and for the most part, appear to be benevolent in nature. However, David's attack on their home world sparked a paradigm shift in their evolution. Survivors of the attack, having undergone genetic alteration on behalf of the black goo, were left mutated amidst the destruction. Explaining why the Engineers have an almost Xenomorph appearance. The creator becomes destroyer, as their once peaceful race turns to hatred and violence. Fueled by revenge, they seek the destruction of man.
If David created the Xenomorph, then how did the Engineers have prior knowledge of them, as the stone wall in Prometheus clearly depicts one? Since we know that the Xenomorph resulted from David's tedious and precise manipulation of genetic material from both the Engineer home world and Dr. Shaw, the only answer is time travel. David is essentially, though inadvertently, the Engineers creator in a sense. His actions monumentally altered their evolution on a genetic, cultural and environmental scale. Maybe this is why the Engineer marveled and adorned David in Prometheus, just before ripping his head off. Gratitude, then ultimately disdain for one's creator is a prevalent theme in the two films.

From what I have gleaned - this is the story behind the ideas of Prometheus and Covenant. The engineers have become immortal but in doing so have also become sterile. They go around, seeding planets with the golden goo (opening of Prometheus) so that the life that evolves, potentially parallels their own and results in a species that they can breed/reproduce with. They come back from time to time to assess whether the accelerated evolution is going on the right course, if things are not going as planned, they introduce the black goo to essentially wipe all traces of life produced by the golden goo from the eco system. They do this well before the evolved life have a chance to develop enough technologically to threaten the engineers (earth - but that plan did not work). The planet that David wiped out was not the engineer's home world but one of the worlds that was showing great promise as the humanoids there closely resemble the engineers. This was the reason why the engineers also had one of their ships hovering/protecting the world when David arrived. However David identified it as such from the ship they took over and eliminated it to stop the engineers from realising their goal of producing a species that they could mate with. Needless to say, the engineers are not going to be happy.

In my own opinion, I think Paradise may have been like an Engineer Farming Colony. Definitely not their home world, whether David knew beforehand or discovered this afterwards. The fact that we see crops like wheat growing here and that there is only one settlement on the entire planet, leads me to conclude that there is no way this could have been where the Engineers originated. I as well think that David finding out afterwards that he was mistaken about this world, that his intended total genocide of the Engineers was a failure, and this spurring him to murder Shaw, start experimenting with the biological weapons, and eventually create the Xenomorphs, would fit perfect with his arrogance and need for both perfection and approval. How he muses about Bryon, Ozymandias, and their greatness, while completely missing the point of that sonnet, the arrogance of rulers and their failings to achieve "greatness" plays into this as well. I think David brushing the whole thing off as a, "Actually I didn’t fail, this has all just helped me to achieve my end goal," would be very in character and explain a lot of his actions in Covenant.

Even an advanced civilization as this fell before the alien and this presages what could also happen to space faring humanity and the hubris of Wayland Yutani. Just like the siren , it was a warning from time .
These days it's fashionable to make it all about the protagonist , they did this with james Bond , making Blofeld his brother . So now in the Alien franchise they have made humanity the centre of things . i think this reduces the ominous threat of the Alien and has relegated it to being a bit player in the grand scheme

Im assuming that the Engineers in Prometheus left that planet so long ago and that is what elicited that reaction. Normally when soldiers or any type of military for that matter come back civilians stereotypically and traditionally celebrate the return. Im assuming that if this isnt the home world then it was an integral colony that was important to the Engineers. However David did say he knew how to navigate to the home world so its hard to imagine that he would know to go anywhere else unless there was some type of GPS system at work where it had routes to various colonies memorized and David chose to go to one to cultivate the Xenomorph weapon to ready himself for when he actually gets to the real home world. There is alot of potential with this story but I dont think were going to hear much more of the Engineers considering what has all happened with the story.

The only problem is one of time. If you need to clear a planet of life so that you can reseed it (sounds like the Genesis Project) you can steer an asteroid into it. But it takes time for the biosphere to recover. Xenomorphs reproduce, kill off the indigenous species, and die once they run out of food, leaving eggs behind to be harvested for the next job. Far less time, but with the possibility of survivors waiting it out. The black goo is the next step, able to kill the entire planet rather quickly and efficiently. Thanks to the Predator franchise, we know that Xenomorphs predate human history.

I'm settling with the idea that the Xenomorphs are the creators. The Engineers are engineered as desired vessels, perfect for xenomorph reproduction, aimed at seeding planets with the sole purpose of creating more vessels in which more xenomorphs can be born. This "paradise" is just another farm. Also, Murals on the walls showing them as godly figures is good enough for me to come to this conclusion. The design of the ship and interior, and docking station are also designed around the physiology of the xenomophs which leads me to believe they are at the top of the creation chain.

Yet creepy. Is David, Ashs dad? Lol. What would be awesome would be to see Bishop Weyland (Lance henriksen)back again in some way or form. Ripley was in cryogenic sleep for 52 years and didn't age?

Thought there were females on Paradise, I interpreted the film as basically what you said about them being closer to the engineers in a species had just had the docking area for the ship. Seeing the wheat and how close they all live together, you see that it's a giant village with farmers and probably fishermen before David. Like you said they are clearly worshiping the ship when it's docking. Apart from killing them all that was the best part of the film.

WrathofMatt yes it's pretty clear that there are female inhabitants on that planet in those crowds, they just don't stand out as they too are bald.

Yes... Big let down. Nobody gave a fat shit about the character. They glossed right over the thing we actually wanted. Engineers and xenos and the character we actually liked from Prometheus to be in the sequel. Shit movie.

This crowd of engineers might be of the "sacrificial" variety (the ones that are used to seed other worlds). What David did was to stop them from seeding new worlds (because he doesn't want other child civilizations competing with humans and therefore him).
They were probably celebrating because their religion taught them that giving themselves as sacrifice is the noblest thing to do in their lifes.

Wait a minute! Wait just a minute! When the camera goes into the hole where the docking station was, there were more juggernauts held there! Not only that why does no one ever talk about what was coming out of these alternate humans after the black goo hit them! If you look closely there's arms and stuff coming out of them before they freeze in place dead!

Well... Honestly, as interesting and engaging a this theory is, realistically it has to be assumed that they are engineers. Your theory depends on the studio having thought this through as well as you have, which they evidently didn't do, considering Covenant's convoluted plot. The engineers are less pale because they don't live underground like the ones in Prometheus, they live on a beautiful, habitable world. Also, the living one in Prometheus was a military commander of some sort, hence his superior physical prowess. The engineers in Covenant look the same as the ones seen in the beginning of the Prometheus extended cut, they also wear the same clothes. The engineer who sacrificed himself did so because he was genetically the most perfect, he is physically powerful and his face is well proportioned, his skin is flawless and he is young and without disease, in his prime. The architecture is different because this isn't a military installation, it is a peaceful city. As humans, we do not decorate and design our cities in the same way we do our military forts, that wouldn't make much sense, neither do we have fighter jets constantly patrolling our city skies on the lookout for threats. The engineers are the galactic equivalent of the United States in the early 21st Century, and this was their 9/11. They had no reason to suspect an attack as they were the dominant force in the galaxy and had gone completely unchallenged for millennia, they seem to have evolved beyond the need to spark conflict with others, concentrating any and all of their efforts towards creation. They also had no reason to suspect that the Juggernaut would have been piloted by David, a malevolent android, had it been literally anyone else no bombing would have taken place, Shaw only wanted to talk and the Weyland corporation wouldn't have gone near the place. They probably assumed it was a vessel that had been lost for years and had finally returned, carrying ancient heroes from distant fallen colonies.

      This makes sense.
Also to add a bit to explain how the pilot space jockey is found 30 years later, post this engineer extinction event, since the engineers vastly explore the reaches of space, it is possible many are out there freely flying around, possibly checking out their previous creations, or even creating new ones.
Since the engineers ships have cyro chambers for the engineers, it seems that their travel isn't warp capable or instant, so there could be traveling cyro sleep engineers out there.

Mankind has traveled to the moon but there are still humans who haven't learned how to make fire. Could the engineers not be a species unified behind one cause, but actually be a segment of a population with motivations of their own?

My idea for a third alien/prometheus movie is as follows:
The engineers are the main characters in the movie and comes to the planet that was in the Prometheus movie.
There they find Weyland inside the crashed spaceship. They have a blue elixir which they empty all over him and bring him to life.
In the next part they arrive at the planet from alien covenant and find the other robot(Walter) who is david's twin. The engineers use the blue elixir and repairs him.
Once awaken the engineers and Weyland get to know all the horrible things that David has done, and weyland says "we have to stop David" .
They set course for origae. When they arrive, they scans all the planet, and finds the planet is full of hostile organisms except
on a high mountain where they discover that there are humans inside a cave.
Inside the cave they meet a herd of children, who tell that when they had lived on the planet for over ten years,
they began to be attacked by Xenomorphs and all the adults died or were turned into these creatures.
There were also great giants developed by someone the children calls David.
The engineers get ready to wipe out all the Xenomorphs that David has created, but the great giants manage to escape with one of the engineers' spaceships.
The engineers and Weyland hunts the spaceship and manage to force the spaceship down on the planet lv426.Where it start sending a distress signal.
The engineers return to Origae to find David, but discover that he has escaped.
In the last part we see David arriving and meeting an unknown alien species
on a tropical like planet. And that makes the cliffhanger that ends the third movie.
