Haha. That scythe dude said he was being pretty lazy and fighting with a "meh, it's cool" attitude because, with the exception of him, everyone else in this video was using the scythe for their first time. Nice call out dude.
I'm pretty late but I kinda have an idea the scythe's actually win against shields, Just like the Khopesh, which is a weapon that was created to Deal damage against shields wielders with it's slanted blade structure, the scythe can win against the shield with it's blade facing downwards and having it's length which can easily be swung at enemies from a distance, scythe users can use the length in their advantage and make the blade go behind the enemy since they're mostly likely going to block their side and not their back. If we create a scenario where a scythe user which is against a sword and shield wielder, The best strategy for the scythe user is to fight mid to long distance ranges. scythe's can easily reach the side of a shield user causing them to block the blade if we fight short ranged, but if we fight mid range, you can use the length of the pole and use the pole to swing at them which they will block, the scythe would be now behind them and and they won't be able to block the blade that is curved down towards them from behind, with a swift pull, the sharp blade can easily puncture from behind. Short ranged battles can be deadly for scythe users tho, since if an enemy were to be able to hold on the the pole of the scythe, they can cause the user from attacking and quickly finish them off. But yeah this is just my thoughts since I'm working on a fantasy-action novel lul ok imma go now
Good thoughts. A lot of this we have found to be the case. You can see some of the close range struggle in our other scythe video. It mainly comes down to the skill and experience of the fighter though more so than the weapon. But still, it is good speculation for your novel. Thanks for sharing.
My analysis of a scythe vs sword: The scythe has superior reach, and can be useful at a distance. It can also make a piercing strike and wrap around a target in a pinch. However, if an opponent is able to grab the handle, they can control the scythe and come in for a strike. Similarly, due to the shape of the scythe, an opponent could block the swing with their weapon and use this brief period of control to close the distance. The scythe has a greater moment of inertia due to the center of mass being towards the blade and away from the wielder. This means that it will take a lot of force for the same amount of rotational acceleration, or to put it another way, it will swing slower. This could telegraph attacks more easily to an opponent, giving them a chance to dodge, block, or counter the attack. The ideal play for the scythe wielder is to maintain distance and go for a tricky attack against the opponent around their block, whether that be toward their leg, their side, or their back. The ideal play for the swordsman is to close the distance and make a quick strike against the slower opponent.
This is the main reason that people or characters using a Scythe need to be SWIFT. Ideally you'd want someone taller and slender but not thin. Before falling ill an being unable to fo this anymore i was pretty much exclusively a Scythe dork hahaha. The best thing is to stay moving, feet should be light, but planted. You need to balance the weight and length of the weapon against your body's. Someone who is experienced with this kind of weapons understands a balance a lot of media gets wrong; this being the balance of showy vs practical flourish. You are at your best with a scythe when you can draw, and then disorientate your opponent's focus Use the whole weapon. Change hands, feint, pull ypur opponent's eye to the blade and then quickly strike with the bottom of your pole. Keep them guessing.

Bo-jivan Parker - the primary function of a polearm is maintaining distance. To imply that you should use it defensively is simply not true. In war, scythes were not shaped like the farm tool and would have been used in a very offensive manner. The Kama was the only real farm tool that had a blade of that nature and was used in combat (practically.) While I agree that a decent counter attack game can benefit some fighters I can’t agree with the ideology of it being the one true way. The main thing that everyone using the scythe lacked was footwork. Maintaining the distance between them and the attacker while attacking is more critical. As for attackers, I always play a counter game vs polearm. With footwork, bait them in to attacking and then full on commit. You have to get inside their blade and power arc before they realize to move or use the butt end of the stave to gain distance.

If you hold a real one, it will be quite heavy since the point of balance is really far from your blade, therefore the blade part will be heavy. For a normal human it will quite hard to swing depends on the weight of the blade. For a "Reaper" type Scythe to work properly it needs to have counterbalance on the other end of the shaft... otherwise it would be too slow and imbalanced as the metal blade would weight one end of it down. War scythes (blade rotated 90 degrees with tip pointing upwards) does not have this issue and works more or less like spear or glaive. But "Reaper" scythe needs this counterbalance and therefore would be heavier weapon

Tbh sycthe in general seems very impractical and useless. But I feel it's mostly because we have never developed actually techniques for them or even looked at them as a weapon only like 1 tribe ever really did and they did decently. Scythes are comeptelety different from other weapons yet can be used pretty similar. Most techniques have a pause in each movement for example a sword you go for a slash then you pause and either come back up for another slash or go back for a block or jump away, the more advanced you become the faster you will be the the less noticable that pause is. If we treat a sycthe the same and pause each move you will quickly notice how slow it is and the weight isn't very helpful either. So from this standpoint alone probably caused this to never been seen as a weapon only a farm tool. That's why I believe scythes aren't supposed to pause like ever in the movements. I think they are supposed to flow and always be rotating for a fast and unpredictable and deadly weapon that they seem to be capable of. The scythe is always gonna point the blade to the ground naturally so why try and fight against that and hold it up? Let it stay like that and rotate it will the blade facing the ground not your opposition. Only flip when you need to strike. When blocking rotate it up for their blade to meet the back your your blade and since it should be curved slightly it will slide off as it rotates missing you. But to use a sycthe as well will require a whole new footwork style as well for the rotation to be effective and not breaks your arms.
Remember, scythes are farming tools. These were only used when there was no other weapon available. You'd be better off with a kitchen knife or a shovel. Maybe a pan while your at it.
Whaaat? You mean after all the books, practicing, and video critiquing you have done, you can't tell. Bummer. Your just gonna have to live with the mystery.
The scythe as well as 2 of the swords are exclusive weapons for our organization. In the Swords section of our website are many links to places some of us get swords from. The other weapons in this video can be found in there.
I wonder if the scythe would be more useful if there was a smaller blade (more like a spike) on the other end as well. Also a spike on the top so it can be used as a pike. A dual ended pike that doubles as a heavy staff. It also has that scythe blade still. Rather than trying to use it like a sword focus on using it as a staff first to block attacks and wait for and opening. With such a large weapon you could also potentially find a moment to make an opening. I know basically nothing about weapons though so this is just my random person opinion. :)
We tried the spike pike thing. Check our older scythe vid on the channel to see how that played out. Also with most pole arm weapons one can usually attack before an opponent gets within a range they would need to block attacks from. It is generally more advantageous to not wait and just attempt to force openings though attacks at distance when using a longer reaching weapon. That's just my outlook on it.
With scythe you can actually gain distance with form of spin movements if you master them. Make scythe more curvy and there is no way he is blocking anything.

Remember, scythes are farming tools. These were only used when there was no other weapon available. You'd be better off with a kitchen knife or a shovel. Maybe a pan while your at it.
1:37 i really love how tryhard guy gets destroyed
Wait until you play against someone with actual hema experience
lol. One of the guys in this vid is actually a HEMA practitioner. I bet you can't figure out which one.
@@combatoutlook1711 the one on the left? At the beginning of the video
@@Aerostarm Nope. 2 more attempts, try again.
@@combatoutlook1711 oooooh, I give up
Whaaat? You mean after all the books, practicing, and video critiquing you have done, you can't tell. Bummer. Your just gonna have to live with the mystery.

Is this a practice combat channel? Please upload more of these to help me gain insights
Anyone know where I can purchace those specific practice weapons? I cant find them anywhere, I must learn the art of the scythe .
The scythe as well as 2 of the swords are exclusive weapons for our organization. In the Swords section of our website are many links to places some of us get swords from. The other weapons in this video can be found in there.
You can make them. There are tutorials online for practice and larp weapons

Me: thinking about soul eater cythe moves
Came here for research, found ****** swinging around toys without any type of skill at all.
The sneeze made me choke on my drink
wow a long range weapon beats short weapons
The scythe is only worthy of people who it chooses
1:36 this fight was awesome out of them all
I would love to have a fight club like this
I wonder if the scythe would be more useful if there was a smaller blade (more like a spike) on the other end as well.
@@combatoutlook1711 Thanks!
Where can i sign up for this shit cuz i need to learn to fight wit a trident
And here I thought this was a real fight... it's just a battle between chuunis
I am not complaining
i think scythe is only good for swinging at distance
if it hits some limbs are gonna fall
Jiro?
I think the scythe should be used with a long dagger for when the opponents get real close but for long to mid-range the scythe beats sword
nope. he just have to move. which he doesnt most of the times.lol
Yeah. He is fighting pretty lazily. Movement is a lot of annoying work. Best not to be troubled with it if possible. lol
Scythe stance is wrong, go from left to right, shield/ sword. You guys holding it for attack from right to left...
Props to the guy who referenced Monty Python after losing a leg.
Where can I do stuff like this I have my own cosplay
Love the scythe, such a dramatic weapon. But a katana and some ambition. It’s over Grims. Straight lunge and guess you see the reaper, ironic.
With scythe you can actually gain distance with form of spin movements if you master them.
Make scythe more curvy and there is no way he is blocking anything.
Just some bros having a good time
Imagine blocking a real scythe with your hands and feet.
Possible.
Not difficult 🗿
Admit it if you're here because of Zack from "Angels of Death"
