I knew a few streams like this in northern California and it was awesome. No fancy long casting skills required just rock hopping and nailing little trout anywhere from 4-15" in every little pocket! Not the biggest trout but they're still a blast on a 5wt fly rod and just rock hopping around on such beautiful little streams tucked away in steep remote canyons.

Never ceases to amaze me how invisible trout are in habitat like this. Really appreciate the high stick tutorial, I needed help with that. The bug section was awesome too. Fort Worth, Texas is not a major trout fishing destination but thanks to TPWD we will be getting stockers soon. Time to dust off the fly gear.

Thank you very much. Nice instructional video. I've been fly fishing for 30 years and learned several things. I'm planning a trip to this area over the summer from sun scorched Arizona and was looking to see what was in the area. This was a good indication of the conditions I'll face. Thanks for the buggy stuff, always good. Looks like I should invest in a lighter rod, never really branched out from the 5 weights. Blessings

Just want to say thanks. By far one of the easiest listening instructional vids to watch. Lots of info and one of the few that include specific stream entomology. Front range stream action picking up. Took a nice cutbow Wednesday on a dry and small stones were the meal of choice for the browns. Tight lines and Ty again

Really appreciated the info on matching the insects and the examples provided. I'm not much of a fly fisherman but it will still help in matching with some of the 1/32oz jig patterns I want to use. Amazing how trout are such voracious animals and eat such a wide variety of things.

Dry Flies work great. Just find the slower water inbetween all the white water that they can just hang in. By high sticking, you can place them in all the calm areas and seams. It works great in the white water sections and you'll find plenty of trout hiding in there that people pass up in the small pockets. Feel free to email me with any questions that you have!

Such an informative video - thanks for all the practical info. I'm pretty new to fishing and was planning on bringing a spinning setup (for versatility) with a bobber & fly on my upcoming Colorado trip, but these streams seem a lot more suited for traditional fly fishing.
I'm a little intimidated by fly fishing though - I heard there was a pretty steep learning curve. Is the hardest part about it the casting mechanics or simply learning how to choose the right flies? Thanks

I haven't done this type of fishing. It looks like a long rod would be useful, in spite of how small the streams are. Like nine feet instead of seven-and-a-half. And I'd guess you could use short leaders. And in such bubbly, quick water, I can't see why you'd need delicate tippets.
