@@Deladus I know this is a joke, but agoraphobia is technically fear of social situations. Not just fear of having to be social, like an introvert might feel, but being in a place or situation with other people around you.
Technically speaking, agoraphobia is fear of places and situations where leaving is impossible, difficult or embarrassing. It's classed as a social anxiety disorder.

I kept waiting for them to mention THALASSOPHOBIA, the fear of vast, deep and dark bodies of water and the potentially dangerous creatures that lurk beneath it's surface.
I think most people just don't know they have it. It wouldn't show up in surveys.
It's not common because not a lot of people live near water.
@@jamer2010 actually, a major percentage of human population is concentrated near bodies of water, from lakes to oceans, and this goes back to ancient human history and the first settlements.
I have an irrational fear of DEEP water.
fear of the dark and drowning is associated with children who tends to outgrow those fears.

I was expecting arachnophodia (fear of spiders) and coulrophobia (fear of clowns) to be up there. Maybe because these are my two biggest phobias
The fear of clowns is more of a US thing (thanks a lot, US pop culture ) in other countries, they are liked more than feared

I'm from Canada, I have coulrophobia and have had it since I was two. Pop culture had nothing to do with it. I can now watch things with clowns in it, but under jo circumstances can I be near a person dressed as a clown.
Fun Fact; Most common phobia's are a result of generational and genetic teaching of what causes harm, pain, or otherwise dire consequences to our survival. It's the closest we can get to survival instinct.

Yup yup... It's similar to being afraid of the dark. Back when we were living in caves and all, the dark meant you couldnt see predators lurking, no fire... So it's embedded in our genes as humans to be afraid of it

I'm someone who is afraid of heights but not of flying. I actually fly pretty frequently and love looking down on the tiny cars and houses. I actually never thought about it being weird until Rhett mentioned it. 😅
I'm actually the same way. Everyone thought I was going to be terrified the first time I was on a plane and I wanted to sit by the window. I'm the same way when in a car or something and going over a bridge. It doesn't bother me nearly as much as if I were to have to walk across it.
rhett running in place does not happen often, but when it does it floors me every time.

@@aSinisterKiid Because it's often based in low self-esteem and the people that have it think they'll be ridiculed for it. And often, people (especially children), will use it to their advantage to have 'fun' at your expense. But I agree, no one should have to be ashamed of it.

Thank you Stevie for explaining Agoraphobia because for my whole life I thought I was Claustrophobic because of my issue of small panic attacks sometimes when I am in large crowds indoors. I think now I have a form of Agoraphobia lol 🤷♀ I am also afraid of heights lol so, I am all kinds of fun.

I believe the percentage of Mythical Beasts who struggle with agoraphobia is probably noticeably-higher than that of the general population. It's a destination for folks who, for reasons that vary, may not be able to physically engage with their actual community. But, that's just a loose hypothesis:)

I have to admit I have a extreme version of Acrophobia. I had a panic attack on a Farris Wheel. I can’t even go on a small ladder without getting wobbly.
There's one aspect that they kept on ignoring and it messed them up greatly. These are phobias not simple fears. These are irrational by definition. They keep debating which one is a more common fear but discussing it as though it's a simple fear rather than a great irrational fear.

The fear of snakes being so low could be explained by the fact that people don't regularly run into snakes, so that makes discovering a fear like that more challenging. Though, I also thought arachnophobia would be there. I feel like spiders strike more fear than just general bugs.

I'm going to assume that agoraphobia covers that one since it says "situations". I had the same thought as you, and then just figured that's what happened.
In college I had a panic attack in front of the whole class because we had to give a 5-minute public speech :( I never even realized I was afraid of public speaking until then.
Every time I've had to speak or perform in front of any sort of a group, I end up having a panic attack.
