Bruh. Between the horror throwback sound, Yandere vibes, and BORA HAVING A FUCKING RAP VERSE, this song got me. Easily their best title track since Deja Vu.
Seriously, BEcause sounds like a throwback to their old songs.
Jiu introduced the song as a love that turned into obsession, so much that the singer would rather kill their lover than share them.
The rap verses are kinda nuts. Dami rapping through a horror-themed drum & bass? BORA'S WHISPERED RAP VERSE. WHAT THE FUCK.
There's PLENTY of allusions to older songs, too. The hotel (Chase Me), the Mirror (Good Night), the mirrored perspective and holding hands (Piri), chasing down a hallway (You and I/Fly High), the throne (Deja Vu), being underground (BOCA)...I might be missing a few more.
For anyone who is not understanding what’s going on I’ll explain. If any of you have seen the “US” movie the video is in reference to that except in Dreamcatcher’s version their doppelgängers actually won and were able to trap the real members inside and he circus(which is why they are wearing different clothes, Jiu smiles at the end and you hear Gahyeon laughing) Remember in the movie Lupita trapped her real self in the circus when she was young and the doppelgänger was living a normal life while the real one suffered and it made her crazy. In the video Gahyeon is supposed to be Lupita except the Gahyeon at the start of the video was the doppelgänger that had been living a normal life the real Gahyeon(who is evil) is wearing the white dress she and the other doppelgängers come up with a plan to trap the other girl’s(real members and Gahyeon’s doppelgänger) and break free which they ultimately did in the end. This is just my take on it but since the video is inspired by the movie and we had to guess it who was the doppelgänger among the members in the beginning I’m guessing it’s Gahyeon unless it’s a trick and it’s SuA she’s been suspicious(with the apple scene) too but that’s what I got from the video. Also the beginning of the video with the cage Gahyeon(doppelgänger) used to be caged and got freed along time ago when she trapped the real one in the circus.
P.S I could be wrong but that’s my take on it feel free to add any thoughts.
For me the video was a mix of "Us" , "Alice In Wonderland" and "The Shining"-
*My Theory/Take:*
I believe JIU was the first victim of whatever haunts/is that Hotel/Circus/Fair - And that things eats you a leaves a doll out of you for then use you to catch other victims-
So, JIU was first- And whatever haunts that place took over her completely and so the new "JIU" is the one that controls everything and catches the 2nd one, being Gahyeon who becomes like a mirror of Jiu- And she (in a way) represents a lighter version of Jiu, but also she is like Jiu's favorite "doll"
The haunted place makes a clone of you who then replaces you, that clone is like a doll that can be filled with whatever JIU wants-
The rest of the girls are dolls that Jiu trapped- And so it shows you the temptation and ways the dolls use to trap others (the apple)- It also seems the dolls will go after the originals (mayne in order for them to become fully "alive" they need to be the ones killing their original selves). Examples: Doll Sua giving real Sua the apple so she falls into her trap (metaphorical to the doll tempting real Sua who eventually gives in) and real Handong's legs being pulled while doll Handong watches- Also it seems inside that hotel/carnival/fair/circus time is different and that's why the coreography represents time/a ticking father clock during the bridge ^^
Also- Since this place/monsterJiu feasts on life it learned that humans are more easily to enchant/tempt/trap when in love on when being presented with something similar to love, either that or the creature/monster Jiu likes the idea of love but doesn't knows how it works (or it could be both) So, it makes sense the dolls pretend to be in love or so with those they want to eat/trap- Or pretend to be a certain way (human) thats why they show so many masks and Sua holding one... Also, in a way maybe they could not only be craving life but love itself, anyways I believe Monster Jiu sometimes just settles with eating people and other times she adds them to her collection of dolls, I do believd she can only keep the doll alive if the doll kills/eats/traps their original self. In a way that also mean her doll collection are special therefore she "loves" them > Jiu thinks she loves those she turns into dolls having full control of them in her mind is a way way she shows her love, and those dolls are so special she even maybe even shares the same heart/essence with them (At least I believe Gahyeon shares the same heart with her giving the mirroring and the purple sown veil over them)
And idk if the dolls still have memories of their human lives which sometimes makes them less doll-like and maybe sometimes they can get out of Jiu's control - That would make for an even greater plot :D
Adding to that, the mirrors in the carnival not only represent the dolls mirroring the originals but also being portals for the dolls and moster Jiu to use, also like mirrors are also eyes, the monster can see through them like windows-
The beginning (The Hotel) is the one reminding me of the Shining- So idk if that place is where the creature heart lies (or where it was born) and the carnival/circus/fair is a way for the creature to hunt for pray and travel- Like the entire place teleports from time to time or so-
It could aslo be connected to Chase Me...The hotel they left behind and all that dark magic/the curse that could have given birth to this new entity that managed to take Jiu and then she went after the rest of the girls (the rest of my theory)
This could be a TERRIFIC MOVIE!
Anyways-
Boca and BEcause are now tied in first place for me ♡
I don't think coming back on Friday was actually unfortunate. With so few music shows airing in Korea right now because of the Olympics, and comebacks not really kicking off again until NEXT week (thus there's not a lot of content for the shows that are airing), I feel like Dreamcatcher Company is "gaming the system" to virtually ensure a win on MCountdown next week. Considering how many times the music shows have screwed over Dreamcatcher in the past, I have ZERO problems with this strategy, and will cheer CEO-nim as loud as anyone for this kinda-genius way of making sure they get the "first win" monkey off their back.
That said - VOTE! LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE! Give our girls what they have deserved for so, SO long!

They likely just made a mistake in the tweet and were on auto-pilot since it usually would be open. The Olympics are still on next week and everyone knew shows would likely be cancelled well in advance of this. This wasn't MNet with some conspiracy against Dreamcatcher and we should stop pushing that narrative.
To Mando - they came back on Thursday because there are no shows until the 10th. It was their only time to promote on a show for two weeks because of the aforementioned Olympics. They've done this once before, for Fly High - and wanted to get their new choreo into a live stage prior to release in a similar situation. The timing just worked out like this.

You got it right. The concept is Doppelgänger. One thing another reaction channel noticed was them on the first scene at the hotel have different clothes from them in the last scene. They got switched out. It's inspired by the movie "Us". In Gahyeon's choreo, she does a scissor move. Scissor is one of the main objects on the movie. Another main thing in the movie and you can find in this MV is Humain Chains, when people hold hands, forming a chain. If you watch the movie and watch this MV, you'll SO MANY similarities, it's insane and so dope.
And yeah, they kinda came back to their Chase Me/Good Night era, but with a MUCH BIGGER budget. I wonder what would've they done to these old MVs using the current budget that they have.

Dreamcatcher are outdoing themselves here once again. Musically, the song is a fantastic journey. There actually are "cute" parts, but there also are parts where the guitars go full metal. The variations in BEcause remind me of their previous masterpiece, Deja Vu. The bridge with SuA's slow rap and Yoohyeon's adlibs is possibly the most beautiful one they have ever done.
About the meaning: According to Dami, BEcause is about love becoming obsession. And also, this is a stand-alone story. They go back to their horror roots, which I really enjoy. One commenter noted that if you look at "BE" as a Korean written character "悲“, that would mean "sadness". So the song title would mean "The Cause of Sadness". And that would make the lyric "because I like you" to maybe mean "the cause of sadness is I like you". That commenter is Jad Hamizan and he deserves all the credit for noticing that.
The video picks up on that. JiU seems to be the puppet master here. She is the one trapping the other members and turning them into puppets, but Gahyeon tries to escape (as you can see by her throwing off the cage right in the beginning). It seems JiU catches her again though, "because she likes her". The lyrics are even creepier. SuA sings: "You turn blue, blue. Your face is like ocean view.", hinting at strangulation due to the one being obsessed taking things way, way too far. If you want to find a connection to the Dystopia trilogy, you could say that this might be a criticism of overly obsessive fans, who turn to malicious comments and other bad things, but I am not sure about that. In any case, Dreamcatcher are clearly not afraid to tackle the difficult subjects, and they do it masterfully here - again. For me, this is more than just pop, it is art.

Sonically, this song is absolutely _all over the place,_ from the light bop of the first verse and chorus, to the distorted screaming *_and the mental drop for Dami's rap,_* the dreamy first bridge, and Sua's creepy "rap" part in the second...
...On paper, this song _should not work._ But it's Leez, Ollounder and Deukae. Of _course_ they're gonna make it a masterpiece.

You have an idea of the general _ballpark_ of what they're going to do next, because after a while, you get a pretty good idea of how their brains work. The choreo is based on the movie US, which is the one I believe you're thinking of. Their choreographer has confirmed that.
The MV, to me, has a different feel. Like JiU is this evil entity who tempts and traps guests to her hotel, turning them into dolls. Gahyeon tries to break free but is caught in the end by JiU. Because Dreamcatcher MVs never have a happy ending.
