Finally, a Thor that would fit my 3.75 inch collection.
😂
Yeah I hear you this is based on older art for Thor and when he was not really drawn to tower over the other avengers or anyone else and stand closer in scale with Iron Man and Captain America but for a more modern audience who have read comics since like the 90s and earlier 2000’s he is too short. Standing next to other MAFEX figures he’s still too small I mean it’s all right if you’re going for that more classic height scale but for me and probably many others we wanted our Thor to be Taller at least as tall as the MAFEX Steel figure. Great looking figure with a lot of great accessories hopefully we’ll get like a 2.0 version of this from MAFEX that is upscaled a bit but that doesn’t seem very likely.
Please look at early avengers issues. Allready in issue 1 cover he dwarves the bulky model 1 Iron-Man. Why would anyone want a Thor that CANNOT be displayed correctly with teammates?
Complete fail on this figure.
Yeah he just comes up a little short
I've been checking out early 60s Avengers comics during the Kirby era and Thor was depicted as being the same hgt as Ironman and Cap, so this Thor is 6'2. I'm hopeful that Mafex gives us a taller classic version of the 80s with a alternate bearded head sculpt. The Mafex line is more true 6" scale while ML is more 6.5 scale.
Thor is of Norwegian ancestry, show me tanned Norwegians. Can't wait to see a fully colored Cap from Mafex and more classic Avengers such as the Vision, Black Panther, Hawkeye, YellowJacket, Hercules, Black Knight, Quicksilver, 1st app Wonderman, Sub Mariner, Swordsman, Falcon She-Hulk, Scarlet Witch & Warbird.
Certainly if going for a specific look this this delivers
I prefer the bright colors of the Mafex over the Marvel Legends. It’s a shame the figure is so tiny. I hope they eventually make a brighter colored Legends Thor.
One of these days!
I am very surprised Mafex undersized him so much while Steel is towering over other figures. Admittedly I am a bigger Steel fan and glad he got that extra love, and Thor I plan on being in flight poses so his size can be fudged to look okay in displays. Now bring on Cap!
He does at least look good in his flight stand
I was really looking forward to this figure....but the height has turned me off. I'm thinking I'll keep my 80th Thor with my Avengers, and do exactly what you mentioned....put him on a flight stand (kinda off by himself) to fudge his appearance. Looks too good not to try. Ok ebay....here i come!!!!
I like the Thor figure because I do like his classic look but to me, I will get the Marvel Legends Ragnarok clone Thor to use as a regular Thor despite having red eyes which I wouldn't even care and hopefully I can find him for a cheap price to go in my very own Avengers display, Overall, Awesome honest review on him Dave.
Yeah the Ragnarok body is great for Thor
@@DisplayingModelBehaviourhey did you review the s.h.figuarts love and thunder thor
Wonder when that legends Thor you have came out because, as someone who isn’t a Thor fan, that figure still looks amazing for a legends figure and the details are great, especially in the face.
He came out about 5 years ago
Man that select silver centuiuren Ironman is awesome
OMG that song brought me back to 1979, 2nd grade. "When Captain America throws his mighty shield... with a red and a white and the blue is true"... Loves those Marvel cartoons. I think it was called the Marvel Power Hour?
Yeah some proper nostalgia there!
I was thinking about getting this In Canada the price is so high. Thanks to your review I’m going to pass. Was hoping it would mix with Legends.
I wouldn’t want to pay too much for this guy!
Lol love it Dave. Stop! Hammer time. Caught me while i was drinking lol
I keep ya on your toes!
Great review. The Mafex Comic Captain America is coming out. Right now online there is only a grey unpainted version. He is a bit skinnier and reminds me of the 1970s version as well. I like the sculpt. Looks similar to the Select version coming out but a bit better proportioned. We shall see
I’ll have to look up that prototype
He doesn’t look skinny at all..?
I was thinking of buying this Thor, just wasn't totally sold. In the meantime I got wired cloth cape for my ML Thor and I got ML Ragnarok(and Ulik too) for 50% off so I got the spinning hammer too. Could have used another head for my Thor, maybe someone on the internet is selling angry heads for him. For now I think I'm good with my ML Thor, MAFEX isn't bad by any means, but I think I expected more effort for this one. Great review Dave.
Thanks man. He has some real highs and lows
Also Dave, Did you like the Mafex Jim Lee Magneto over the Mezco version and put him in your X-MEN set up with the Haslab Sentinel display because I think the Magneto from Medicom does look a little better than the cloth version anyway, Glad that you did got Steel as well.
Honestly I’m really torn as to which one will go with the sentinel. I might have to rotate them!
The mafex figures I have are hush Batman, superman, and nightwing. Thor looks shorter than all of them (I have my Batman and Superman with my JL abs the avengers beside them).
And you gotta kinda tighten their stand screws and get them in just the right place for them to support the figure. I’ve found the McFarlane flight stands works better actually lol
Hush Batman looks great
I disagree that it's unfair to compare him to Marvel legends as if he wasn't meant to be displayed with that line. They are both 1:12 scale, and Medicom will never reach the library of characters Hasbro has made, so who are we going to have this Thor figure fight? Sure in action poses it might not be as noticeable, but if they can make Steel a big figure, they can do the same as Thor. The argument that it's based on Jack Kirby's art as well doesn't hold up as his art fluctuated as well, and for Medicom to focus on such a short and niche period of time for the character limits the figure's display options. Thor has spent more time as a larger character than as a 'regular' sized character.
Anyway, Thanks as always for the review, glad I can catch them again. I said once I was done with import figures but Magneto brought me back in. I'll be passing on this Thor though.
Even if Mefax was a seperate scale (it factually isn't) he should scale with other Mafex releases, certainly their Iron-Man no?
Being that that verson of Iron-Man was on the same team as this appearance of Thor one would think they would base the scale of the era where the two apoear together. You can prod out weird art where scale is off, but in most larger shots and more importantly covers, Thor is clearly taller than Iron-Man in armor.
Yeah that’s fair. It’s such a shame there seems to be so much interpretation as to what 1:12 scale seems to be!
Cool Thor toy
Thanks man
I love videos like this!
Thanks brother!
Awesome review! Tells 'em likes you sees 'em!
Honest to a fault
hi dave, have you done a review of the mafex battle dark knight batman????
Not yet but it’s on its way!
Had this on preorder for a while. My first mafex. Looks nice but glad I will be prewarned about the size.
Temper your expectations and you should be happy!
Mafex is Mafex, Legends is Legends, Revoltech is Revoltech. Each line is its own thing and shouldn't be compared based on scale. Iike saying "my Adidas don't fit as snug as my Nikes." Well....
That’s true to an extent. Many collectors enjoy mixing lines though and this does matter to a lot of people when considering whether or not to buy a figure. The fact of the matter is though that Thor here is small even when compared to other Mafex figures. My Mafex Scarlet Spider looks like he could go toe to toe with the God of Thunder and that really shouldn’t be.
Great review, as usual!
Thus far, the only mafex figures I've considered purchasing with the intention of incorporating them with Legends are Thor and Magneto.
Magneto is still in consideration. However, Thor Jr. sadly won't work. 😒
I do, however, agree with Dave that he still works great just to have as a stand-alone figure, but for those prices here in the U.S. ... nah.
Yeah I hear you on that one. Magneto will still scale pet well I feel.
Thor Jr. 😂😂😂😂
Any chance you'll do a Mafex favorite to least favorite list of the ones you own?
Hmmm that’s a possibility!
Hello im a fan of Thor. Should I would buy Mafex Thor or Revoltech ? I know Revoltech have many effect but in my opinion I think Mafex better about head scupt, cape and paint.
I prefer Revoltech. He’s bigger and more imposing
Dave, what's the make of smaller Optimus Prime you showcase during the height comparisons?
That’s the Three Zero MDLX Prime
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour thank you!!!
Put silicone in the joints of the flight stands. Once it hardens they will stay, but it's not permanent like glue.
I might just do that!
I really hope Mafex gives us a Thor 2.0. I don't want the movies Thor, I want this Comic version but they need to fix the few things to make it amazing.
He was still 6’6 according to the early comics
Definitely undersized then!
Marvel height comparisons have him and Iron Man at 6'6". Looks right to me. Each to their own.
Okok But you gotta hit us with that mezco Superman review there buddy
Is on the way!
This thor is still short for mafex
If you don't like it dont buy it😂
@@bryanmarcia4104 I swear, why do Mafex collectors always get so defensive when people criticize the line? I'm a big Mafex collect myself (I have all the X-Men figures and the Hush DC figures), but I've noticed that Mafex fanboys always take it personally when people dislike figures in the line. I guess "holding companies accountable" only applies when it's Hasbro lol
Yeah, this Thor is like the same height as MAFEX Spidey which is no bueno
No arguments there!
I got the new wolverine with the red claws
Nice one!
I really hope they do a late ‘00s JMS run Thor soon. That look with the chainmail is my favorite Thor costume.
I feel if they were going to do a classic Thor, they should’ve based it off of the Simonson run instead of Kirby’s art. I don’t think Kirby’s art translates well into action figures. Their comic Captain America looks like it has the same problem of being based off of that art.
That would be cool to see
Why doesn't MAFEX release these in chronicle order? hmm Robocop no. 192 was recently released.
Goodness only knows! They seem quite random!
My only problem with this figure is that it's too small beside Marvel Legends
I have a question for the Mafex lovers. Why does Mafex focus on the wolverines and Captain Americas, but not the characters hasbro won’t do, Holbein Queen, Mafisto, shanna the she devil. All the Ghost Riders????? Everyone is mad at hasbro for not doing those, what is stopping Mafex from filling that gap?!?!
Of like to see mafex tackle them
Day 1 of asking for 50 essential Thor marvel legends
Lol it’s on the list!
Do we already have a Thor figure that looks exactly like the face of Jack Kirby's Thor?
Does this one look like Kirby's Thor?
It’s probably the best representation specifically of Kirby’s Thor
😂😂😂 awesome review!
Thanks man!
As long as hes not a dwarf scalings just not that important to me. Also if you want to take pics of some sort of battle u can always use posing and perspective to alter the height in shot
Definitely in need of some Tom Cruise photography tricks!
I'm 95% out on their "Avengers" line. Thor was their best shot because i was less happy with him than Cap and Iron-Man from ML.
Yeah it’s been a mixed bag
The cape looks amazing. I wish Marvel Legends had them, and a lot of their other figures.
I have rhe Power Rangers Lightning Collection Morphed Shredder. The fabric cape really lifts it to a new level.
I love that green ranger Shredder!
Dave please take us through your Optimus Prime situation looks like it's gotten really interesting!
I’ll do a collection video soon!
Dave, sell him and get your Ben Reilley. He’s on HLJ
Just half an inch taller would have made him awesome. But still, i love the figure, my mafex section is getting big
Yeah he was so close to being great
As a Thor fanboy, who has almost every journey into mystery issue, i do not care about height. I need it and i just bought it from hobby link japan.
I’ve no doubt you’ll enjoy him!
Agreed mafex Thor looks "pale" for me too. ML 80th Thor one love
I’m glad it’s not just me
Jack Kirby and Donald Heck Thor.
Yep, Kirby style
At Big bad toy store
Being too short kills it for me. Otherwise great figure
Damn. Was gonna get him. Too small. 😭
Yeah it’s a shame
I love mafex….but how is it that legends can sometimes still compete. They their cloth capes are unbeatable though
Yeah it’s a great sign of quality
People think if he was a bit taller than we'd have our ultimate version of Thor, but nah
Yeah I see your point
You absolutely can tighten a Mafex stand. Just need a screwdriver.
My screws won’t tighten any further
At first I did wish he was a tad taller but I understand what Mafex are going for.I’ll be displaying him with Mafex figures so yeah scale won’t be a problem for me in that regard. They nailed the classic comic look for this guy, just picturing a whole Mafex team of classic avengers together one day🤔😍
I’m still excited to see how Cap looks
It’s pretty comical to hold against the figure that it’s not in scale with lines from other companies. Just buy the rest of Mafex lol
Yeah but he’s arguably small even for Mafex.
If he was steels size then this Thor would have been perfect.
That would have worked
Marvel legends only scales with Marvel Legends
I find it depends on the characters. Select monsters often work well with them. Along with Revoltech and Mezco.
This Thor figure should be a bit bigger but Iron Man & Steel are grown human men, well over 6 foot tall in an armor suit.
They need to be tall / big.
They all should be around same size since Thor is a huge guy but if he’s a tad smaller it doesn’t ruin the look.
Yeah a lot of it is down to perspective
Look at pictures from Avengers comics (even early ones) Thor is taller than Iron-Man in armor. This "argument" is faulty and seems like a cope. I love Spider-Man, Batman and X-Men Mafex lines, but they dropped the ball twice with this Avengers line, despite being reamed for this miss with their Venom so long ago they still.
This "he was smaller early on" argument came up twith Venom too, sure he was smallER but not smaller to the point of being the same as Peter Parker. The same is the case with Thor, he might have been smaller early on than he became in the 90's and modern, but he is clearly taller than Iron-Man and Cap in early Avengers issues. When they release a Hulk that is barely taller than Iron-Man because he was drawn that way "sometimes" will you defend that too?
It's clearly not what people want, or think of in their mind when thinking of the character.
@@theraven268 Don’t omit what I clearly stated, I said the Mafex Thor figure should be bigger. He’s is drawn very tall.
However he’s not & it’s not a deal breaker, in the Marvel Comics Thor is listed at 6’6” & Iron Man in his armor is listed at approximately 6’5” so guess what?..the Mafex figures are pretty accurate despite what we would prefer.
Ngl, I googled marvel height comparisons of from like that marvel handbook years ago. Pretty spot on, either at the same height or like you said Iron Man (in suit) is 6'5"
I wouldn't buy Mafex for anything other than DC or lines that don't already have great 1:12 representation, wot u doin Dave wot u doin m8
Buying them so you don’t have to!
Complains about McFarlane doing 7inch.
Buys mafex who does 6inch and it still doesn't work with other lines 😂😂😂
I’m not sure what your point is
@@DisplayingModelBehaviour Just poking fun at people who hate on McFarlane because it's not 6inch, cause they say they can't mix the line with Marvel Legends, even tho manu other 6inch lines doesn't work with Marvel Legends.
But i'm just picking on you, don't take it personally, i love your work, one of my favorites action figure reviewers.
You just saved me a whole lotta change. I have this guy on pre-order but was on the fence, but now I'll probably cancel it.
The size is a bit disappointing. While I didn't need him to huge like modern Thor, he should at least be at least close to other Mafex figures. Even if I just wanted a Thor display... are Mafex ever going to do Thor villains? Until they do (which they probably won't do past Loki, if they even do him), you're gonna need to put him with Marvel Legends... who he's too small for. Pretty disappointing since, like you, I wanted this guy to be *the* Thor figure for my collection, but now I'll probably track down the 80th anniversary ML... probably just in time for Hasbro to announce an even better-er Thor with a cloth cape or something.
Likewise I’m on the look out for that better-er Thor!
Thank you for pointing out that Thor wasn't going to be as massive as Steel becuase this Thor is 1960's Avenger's Thor and Steel is a massive, jacked guy from X-TREME 90's comics.
Second flying head is a good suggestion. Or they could go the weird Figma route with swappable head cap/moveable hair... but that has it's own weird sculpt issues. Though i the case of this Thor a removable cap/swapping hair would be pretty easy.
I will have to disagree about the stands. I tighten those screws right up and they hold incredibly well. They're just too short.
Everything was bigger and more jacked in the extreme 90’s!
I'm so ambivalent about this figure. I was so excited to see a comic-book colored classic Thor, as he's my all time favorite. The Mafex versions looks far, far better than the ML versions. The Mafex figure also blows away the ML version when it comes to articulation and pose-ability. The big issue is the size. I grew up with Thor from the early Journey Into Mystery days and collected every issue through the late 80's Walt Simonson run. To me, Thor needn't be any taller than Iron Man or Capt. America. I don't mind him being taller, I don't mind him being the same size. I hated how Marvel warped all their characters into giants in the 90s and beyond (Hulk, Thor, Drax the Destroyer, etc.).
But I really, really was hoping that Mafex Thor would be the same size as the ML Capt. America, Iron Man, etc. It's gonna be difficult displaying this figure mixed with ML figures because of the size. Then again, once I have it in hand, perhaps it won't look as bad as I expect it to. I'm getting this figure regardless, because aside from the size, it's damn near perfect.
I swear, between Mafex and Hasbro, I don't think there are 2 people working in Quality Control. Why did they make Thor so small? Why did they make his spinning hammer so heavy (it could have been made of soft, lighter, hollow plastic)? Why did Hasbro not give Bullseye a gun for his empty holster in the 3-pack with DD and Elektra? Why did Hasbro make Firelord's hands too loose to properly grip his firestaff?
I have complained many times. Maybe they need to just bite the bullet and hire me and then all of these complaints will go away, as the figures will be made correctly. You listening, Hasbro and Mafex? Hire me! I'll fix things!
Great points there man. They had the chance to make something really great and kinda whiffed it
I’ve got him and he’s perfect for standing on a shelf with Mafex Classic Ironman
Hopefully they get to captain America and the other avengers sooner rather than later
Apparently Cap is on the way!
Mine will be on a flight stand most likely to help hide the fact he is a bit tiny or not bigger than most of my other Mafex characters. Still looks pretty good.
I passed on Steel as I don't care for most DC stuff. But good to see Mafex could make a bigger character. Maybe they can make a good Colossus after all.
They would be hard pressed to to the legends Colossus. He’s one of their best!
I don't think Mafex scale correctly with each other. Thor is 6'6, Storm 5'11, Magneto 6'3. Magneto looks taller and Storm looks about the same hight. Dave don't worry, my next major decision I make, I'll ask you.
Yeah it seems to be all over the place
I’m kind of in agreement and disagreement with the idea that Mafex aren’t supposed to scale with Marvel Legends. I get that argument, but at the same time, Mafex is meant to be operating in the 1/12 scale arena, so technically he should really be comparable to Marvel Legends as they are the standard of 6 inch Marvel characters. It’s the same with DC Multiverse from McFarlane, lots of collectors collect lines so that figures from different companies can sit together, and companies must know that, granted Mafex are an import company and Legends aren’t as prominent in the Far East regions as they are in the West. Overall I do think Mafex need to try and scale with domestic companies in my opinion. Having said that I’m good with Mafex Thor as a 60s style Thor.
@TAKTAK Toys With Films
Mafex is true 1/12
Marvel legends is oversized for true 1/12 scale
Mafex is sized to fit with sh figuarts and Figma
@@TheGreatDayne1983 cough cough cough mafex deadpool x-force
@@TheGreatDayne1983 Fake news. Mafex isn't true 1/12 scale either. Thor is 6'6", so this Mafex Thor is undersized and should be 6.6 inches. Spider-Man at his absolute tallest as a full-grown adult is 5'10", so the Mafex Spider-Man is actually oversized and should be 5.9 inches tall. Wolverine is 5'3', so the Mafex Wolverine is way too tall and should only be 5.3 inches tall. And don't even get me started on the Mafex Deadpool, that figure is way too tall relative to the rest of the line
@@juansanchez209 Thor was only like 6’2” in the early comics I think
He wasn’t a full head taller than Ironman or Cap anyway
Yeah, Legends is closer to 1:11 scale. GI Joe and Black series is actually 1:12.
Thor's a dick, reviews done in 40 seconds job done boo yah!
Short and sweet!
Save on plastic it was made smaller keep the price the same $100.
Hmmm I’m not sure
This issue same as Venom before.. its wrong size. Suposd to be bigger
Yeah agreed
While I agree I wish he was bigger, I feel like Mafex is trying to maintain a true 1:12 scale. We’re just so used to ML and artist drawing these characters at 9’-14”.
Is tough as he doesn’t really scale all that great with other mafex figures either. Still feels a bit undersized
Unfortunately, I'm having to revise my review of Mafex Thor. This thing is a piece of shit. The joints on Mafex figures are so loose, it's ridiculous. The spinning hammer accessory is worthless. I'll offer $100 to anyone who can get it to spin without sending his hand shooting off into orbit. The hand pegs are so tiny and so insecure that the accessory is worthless. Sure, you can use the "stand" but maybe if a figure needs a STAND to hold an accessory, that should tell R&D that maybe the accessory needs to be made LIGHTER! Mafex figures seem to look nice and can be put in great poses but they're essentially fragile pieces of shit that fall down, fall apart, and lose arms, legs, hands at the slightest touch. And the price is beyond ridiculous. I'm seriously considering putting it up for sale on Ebay. But this is the lasts Mafex figure I ever buy. Total boycott after this nonsense. And it's a shame because I had no problem with the size, loved the cape and the face sculpts, etc. But it's just fragile shit, no other way to put it.
And another win to ML. And the difference in the release date makes Mafex' job even worse on this one, not only on the size, but in general, looks a cheap figure.
Yeah not their best effort
Too small thor..
Definitely
I will get him one day, but Im not rushing out the door to sell my left kidney to get it. No hurry after seeing reviews on this mediocre figure.
Yeah he’s not essential
