  • A huge beech tree fell down on my tent. After some thoughts I decided to use it as a shelter. Here is how it all worked out.
    The Tent
    www.hot-tent.com
    Saws
    silky-europe.com
    Musen:
My dog eats raw chicken every night. Besides that she has dry food available all day.
Musen (the mouse) is a labradoodle
She is half brown labrador and half black/white toy poodle.
Her real name is Effie, but i only use that when her hearing is bad. ;)
    Cody
The black labrador is called Cody. He belongs to Tony.
When Musen and me is at the site, Cody is with us. He loves Musen and me, and not least: he knows i have food.
Cody is afraid to cross the bridge.
    Tony
One of my best and "oldest" friends.
He has the fishfarm down stream, and lives close by.
The place I have my tent belongs to the fish farm.
    The Cats
The cats are wild cats and live around the fish farm.
    Plet Mis
The mother cat. She is mother to all the other cats that comes near me.
She brings them to me, and some of them

Soren👍👍😮 Certainly thankful you were at the fish farm when the disaster happened and no one was hurt. Things can be replaced but not people ETC.. Using the tree as shelter is one way of saying "I win", good job. Glad the tent was saved. Duct tape as we call it is a permanent piece of gear here, from patching broken tents and packs ETC., to fire starting, it's multi purpose usage is indispensable. Thanks for great video and story, well done. See ya next time.

Yes. Me too. One of the trees I tied my hammock fell a couple of years ago. It was alive but rotten at the trunk. Fell when I sat down going to bed. Lucky it was side heavy because it was close to the sea, and didn't hit me and Musen. :)

First and foremost I, we,,are all relieved that everyone was safe and there were no injuries. That was a miracle. Leave it to you Don to make something good out of a bad situation. You are so resourceful in every way. Poor little Kurt ran the wrong way but thankfully made it. Precious Musen is smart and kept his distance. Don you are so good with making things out of wood that I know your head is spinning with ideas for putting it to good use. I can't wait to see what projects you make with it. It looks like you have enough wood to make some beautiful and needed things. Maybe a shelter? Yea, to no more headaches. I'm happy to see all is well with you Musen and the gang. Be well and enjoy the weekend and I'll see you again soon my friend.

And now that cat has 8 lives left! 😂
I had a lean-to oilskin tarp out back for about a year when I used to live in West Virginia. One day, after a storm, I came out to find a deadfall limb on top of it, about 12' long and maybe 8" thick. It was suspended by the tarp and had I been underneath it when it happened, I'd pretty sure be waking up in an emergency room had it not been an oilskin tarp.
Had that been a nylon tarp, I don't believe it would've been suspended in the air when I got there, but on the ground having crushed through the tarp like a piece of toilet tissue.
The last time I had a good campout, I was using my 10X10' oilskin tarp in a plow point configuration. It was an especially windy day. I had two 60' widowmakers come down around me in the distance. When another one came down in front of me, I was like, "Okay, time to go." and I packed up faster than a Ukrainian in February of 2022.
Just yesterday as I was hunting (again, a windy day), I had a long heavy deadfall limb fall not far from me with winds so gusty they were bending the tops of trees almost 30 degrees in either direction. It was spectacular. It sounded like freight trains running over me.
But...I wouldn't trade those experiences for anything.
It's called the "wild" out there for a reason. If I wanted to be safe, I would've stayed home in my climate controlled structure with lights on demand and potable water coming out of a sink.
I've been hit by falling debris on perfectly calm days while out there. It sure wakes you up.
    Good stuff Soren.

    • @YankeeWoodcraft
      @YankeeWoodcraft Год назад

PS My favorite places to stage myself while hunting are fallen trees, next to the uprooted base. Besides them providing great cover, there's almost zero chance that another tree will fall on me there and if it did, I'd have the already fallen tree to provide a stop large enough for me to be under.

Its some dangerous stuff being out when its strong wind. It has ruined several nights for me. I hate it. But there was no strong wind, only rain from the night before that has been weighted down on the tree. It was rotten to some point between the stems. I had a, what seemed to be a strong living tree break when I sat down I my hammock once. It had leaves and live bark. But was completely rotten at the trunk. Lucky it was close to the beach, so it leaned against the ocean, and missed me. :O Thanks my friend
