Staying with a popular team for lower pay like the Lakers or even the Warriors could be more lucrative because of the business potential. There's a compounding effect on AR's attractiveness as an endorser due to him (1) being a significat contributor on a (2) LeBron team. If I'm a company like Rigorer there's almost no way I'm giving AR a shoe if he was with the Spurs (rumored to almost offer him the max) or the Hornets. Bigger picture, he's now a part owner of a shoe brand. I'm almost certain there are other companies that approach how they choose endorsers in a similar fashion. It's big world out there, this goes beyond the USA market.

No, the Lakers would have matched any offers because AR was a restricted free agent. The Lakers had said they would match any offers. They also said they would wait till the final hour to match the offer. That waiting till the final hour part scared other teams away. If a team made a higher offer, that money is tied down and they may lose other free agents they could have signed. So no team took the risk because they knew what the Lakers would do.
