  • This Parade commemorates the terrorist bombing that took place on 20th July 1982.
The regimental band of the 1st battalion Royal Green Jackets were performing a lunch time concert at the Regent Park bandstand.
The audience were enjoying a medley of songs from the musical Oliver, when at 12.55pm a bomb exploded under the bandstand.
Six members of the band were killed instantly and another member passed away two weeks later from his injuries.
Following this Parade a concert was performed by The Waterloo Band and Bugles of The Rifles. During the concert the band played the selection from Oliver that was played on the day of the attack. The Musical Director stopped the piece and a time of reflection was held before the band carried on and finished the piece.

Moved up to london to work in 1986. Had a job with BT payphones in central london and did a few jobs in the hyde park barracks guardroom at that time. Along with many other military and well known establishments. Spent 11 years there during the IRA terror campaign. Had bombs being left in our k6 red kiosks for a period. In 96 parked my van in the same loading bay that the london docklands truck bomb went off in. Fortunately i was there a week earlier. However, i did buy a bottle of water off one of the 2 eventual victims. I later found out that both worked the small newspaper kiosk that sat near the loading bay and served the docklands rail station where my job was. RIP to them and all those murdered by acts of terrorism.

I LOVE the look of muttonchopped gent third from the right.
Brother looks like he's ready to saddle up do it all over again.
From an old American cavalry corporal, a respectful tip of the Stetson to the past and current Riflemen.
