- Huddie William Ledbetter(Lead Belly or Leadbelly, January 1888 December 6, 1949) was an American folk and blues musician.
This song was recorded in 1942.
Lyrics:
Hiltler started out in nineteen hundred and thirty two(x2)
When he started out, he took the homes from the Jews
We're gonna tear Hitler down(x3) someday.
We're gonna bring him to the ground(x3) someday.
When Hitler started out, he took the Jews from their homes(x2)
That's one thing Mr. Hitler you know you done wrong.
We're gonna tear Hitler down(x3) someday.
We're gonna bring him to the ground(x3) someday.
You ain't no iron, you ain't no solid rock(x2)
but we American people say "Mr. Hitler is got to stop!"
We're gonna tear Hitler down(x3) someday.
We're gonna bring him to the ground(x3) someday.
Mr. Hitler we're gonna tear your playhouse down(x2)
you been flyin' mighty high, but you're on your last go round.
We're gonna tear Hitler down(x3) someday.
We're gonna bring him to the ground(x3) someday.
Mr. Hitler, you know you ain't so keen(x2)
But we American people say you're the biggest liar they ever seen.
We're gonna tear Hitler down(x3) someday.
We're gonna bring him to the ground(x3) someday.
"We gonna' tear Hitler down." Very proud of my grandfather, who fought at Normandy and was one of us Americans who tore Hitler down, and very proud of all of our allies who helped tear Hitler down, too. Long live Leadbelly.
Hear hear.
My grandfather was a tanker on Utah beach. 😊
Proud of him too. There's no way we could have done with without all those brave grandfathers. Mine fought in Burma against the other foe. Let's not forget, and never let it happen again.
One of us!!!?? Wrf!!?? Respect to your grandpa but you weren't even born!!! Honor your old man is one thing but you disrespect him by taking credit one of us you didn't do shit!!!
It was the soviet union who tore hitler down. Not americans!
A prime example of why Professor Ledbetter remains one of the absolute masters. Chilling, moving, inspirational and prophetic. Magnificent.
Check out Willie Dixon too
..song called "It don't make sense"
Leadbelly is a great-grandfather of rock & roll. We're so fortunate that he was recognized and even recorded while in prison.
From one oppressed people to another... I'm surprised at how much compassion Leadbelly had to offer towards the Jews, given the state of his people in his own country. A salute to the great man!
The song had nothing to do with Hitler or the Jews!
mine enemy's enemy is my ally/friend.
solid thinking.
@@brianharper218 Yes it does.. It was recorded during the war ..
@@brianharper218 It's titled "Mr. Hitler" and the first few verses mention the evils Hitler committed against the Jews.
@@brianharper218 Hey, I'm curious, when you opened up this video and let it play, what exactly did you hear, and what did you see the video's title as?
Tarantino should have put this song in Inglorious Basterds!
Brilliant idea.
+Erik Kuether They used for the credits in the german Movie "Er ist wieder da" (engl: he's back again) where Hitler wakes up in Berlin in 2011. Really hard to find this song tho
Really hard to find it.I had to type the name of the song and artist into the RUclips search bar.Got there in the end.

@dan thefan Please do some more research on a person before you condemn him to your trashcan. He's one of the most brilliant (quite literally too, google his IQ) filmmakers of the present day, bringing more than one hommage to the old days of cinema in a style that appeals to a newer audience. In a way, you can say, he's a historian teaching people the art of movies and moviemaking. And he uses violence and sex, but does he sell it, or does he exaggerate it on purpose? Did you know he wrote 'Natural Born Killers', a movie that only exists almost solely to teach us how wrong violence is: How we treat it in our modern society and how mediatized real life violence makes us quite immune to it? Better teach yourself, my friend, the internet is a big library where you can learn, it's not just there to put your opinion out there without actually knowing what you're talking about...
Happy 125th Birthday to Huddie "Lead Belly" Ledbetter. King of the 12-String Guitar.
He played a 12 string?
Yes.
A wonderful patriotic message from the legendary bluesman against Hitler's war on Europe and his persecution of the Jewish people. Leadbelly was a true legend, with a very inspiring message here.
Was it a war on Europe or an attempt to liberate them from the same people who rule over us today?
Just discovering Leadbelly (I'm a crappy guitar player) and now I'm completely captivated by his work and his life.
they used this song in a german movie called "Er ist wieder da" where Hitler returns in modern day germany. It was perfect, absolutely perfect!
+Colin McMahon u know where i can find the version they used?

This guy is a badass. Once he was stabbed in a prison with a shank, and he responded by pulling it out and almost killing the man who attacked him.
And now his nickname is leadbelly. Coincidence? I think not.

Yeah, the Palestinian people didn't do anything
@@dreamman5588 - I'm really perplexed as to your comment. While the Israel/Palestine situation (a territory dispute) has a decades old history, the current news dominating situation didn't begin until late 2023. In 2022, when I made this comment, the leading news story was the Russian invasion (invasion being what Hitler did) of Ukraine which is what my comment was referring to.
Amazingly audacious! Love it and I'm now a certified Leadbelly fan. Another real American folk hero like Woody Guthrie.

@Colin McMahon, I saw the movie "Er ist wieder da". Great movie! Highly recommended. And the use of the song at the end was an extra stroke of brilliance. I was proud to actually recognize it was from Leadbelly. He's not widely known here in Germany.

Hallo and good Day! My Life is a hard way and I see, so many Hitlers, the Ghost from him. My head is many tired when I listened the Ghost from the mouth from many people. I have Handy Cap and many people are in Chaos. But I hope in Freedom and Peace, but is a Long Way. I wish Lucky Days in Peace.

It's a sign you're a good sort, the struggle in modern times isn't against a single figure like him, but oppression continues, and destruction of the natural world does. The struggle needs to be always fought...
Yes.
Rock n Roll in 1942. It's anti-fascist and it uses the basic riff that Fats Domino used for Blueberry Hill.

I betcha Leadbelly made up this song as he went. He was famous for that.
As simple as genious song ... thank you so much for sharing it !!!
Bless his heart. Thanks for posting this. I have quite a few Leadbelly recordings but hadn't heard this before. Thank God that all Americans back then were able to recognize evil when they saw it. We pulled together and everyone helped the war effort. Three and a half years after entering the war, we had defeated an axis of evil that had been building its war machine for years. Wish we could get that kind of unity today in our war against Islamofascism.
Soviet Union defeated the Axis (anti-comintern pact initially), you had been propping up fascists throughout the cold war and beyond, including islamists.
We'll get him one day, boys. keep fighting the good fight
@saintfan07UK actually back in the days of the rolling stones, led zep and all the best uk bands were starting out all they listened to was american southern blues from what i've heard

I had family who fled from the nazis to America and helped with whooping hitlers ass. My father showed me my great great grandfather's dogtags, marked with the H meaning Hebrew. My family was never afraid. One can only pray to be like them.
Agreed. But with today's sissy woke culture, one fears for the next generation.
He was a genius, like Woody and Van Gogh. If only they could see today how they changed the world. Maybe they do. Maybe they don't give a shit.

so Leadbelly is more of a folksinger than a blues man
+Terence Boris Leadbelly has also been described as a "songster" - this is a tradition which shares some elements with the blues but is a distinct element in its own right.
Certainly Leadbelly is his own synthesis of folk & blues
I've read that some people think that many blues singers would have had a much wider repetoire than just blues songs; that they would have played other styles as well but the record companies were only interested in recording blues because it was the commercially-viable pop music of its age.
