When Cole takes the name of Kessler and travels back in time to alter his past, he creates an alternative timeline the moment he take over the First Sons. If he hadn't then he would be stuck in a temporal loop. He may have altered the timestream for this Cole(the player) but it set into motion a series of unpredictable events. They will not happen the same way they did in his timeline. He hastened the creation of the Beast by accelerating the creation of the Ray Sphere so that Cole would gain his powers earlier instead of by naturally developing them which took more time. He wanted Cole to be more powerful than he was at that point in the timeline. It wouldn't matter whether he was good or evil as long as Cole was strong enough to defeat the Beast. That was his goal: To make Cole strong enough to defeat the Beast.
Sounds about right. It would be nice to see what other changes Kessler made to the time line. From what I understand Alden Tate was the leader of the First Sons in Kessler's time line. John was still an agent and Kessler lived his somewhat normal life. I'm guessing at one point John and his team manage to find the ray sphere. I'm also guessing that John turns in The Beast during Kessler's time line once he finds the ray sphere just like he did in Cole's time line. I don't think Kessler ever knew who The Beast was, only that he was a powerful conduit. Otherwise, I'd imagine Kessler would've just killed John instead of going through all the trouble of taking over the First Sons and accelerating the production of the ray sphere. I think the same plague emerges and John begins the genocide, hoping he could save a few rather than lose everyone. I think this is how Kessler loses his family. Even though he was able to escape with them every time The Beast activated his powers, his family wasn't immune to the plague. It would explain why Kessler chose to join the First Sons rather than stop them altogether. He probably wasn't aware of the plague's origin or how The Beast would be created. Kessler goes back in time creating the new reality and makes his younger alternate self become the protagonist we fight as.

All that because of his powers. Cole's all alone now, and he has to face a being that threatens the entire world all on his own. Even though the people of the city look to him for hope, Cole's afraid that they'll turn on him when he can't be there for him. That's REALLY powerful. That may be the case if you are 30 + years old . The reason you say shit like this is because you are stuck in the 90s games like donkey kong and other games like it . Nasko K. Dimov These people get me mad. Like, really... They choose to be close minded. They put limits on their entertainment cause they experienced something at a young age and can't let go. I grew up with the old consoles but I am not mad enough to say "Oh those were the days with the NES" and stuff like many people say. Gaming is indeed better than ever, some people are just sleeping to notice it.
i agree with the Braxx guy your just stuck bro and your refusing to evolve and move on due to the nostalgia. Video games are the only form of media that continue to get better, music and movies will always have there major highs and lows through the years but generally video games have just been a straight up high, this is probably due to the fact that music and movies are way older than video games so the genre has more room to grow and explore new things but thats beside the point. The fact is that videogames dont have last eras because each era is generally better than the that came before due to upgrades in graphics, story lines, added features like massive branching storylines or more releastic npc interactions or vr type full body interaction. Videogames will undoubtly slow down after a bit because there is a peak to everything but were basically in the renaissance era of videogames bro just enjoy it.
The storyline for this game is amazing. In fact ive just completed it on good and actualy shed a tear at how sorry i felt for Cole XD There should be a sequel, far too many cliff hangers
alright, to end the debate on how kessler got his powers, i shall do it. conduits have a different gene in them than others, their powers are sort of "dormant", until the ray sphere, when PUSHED INWARD, reacts with the ray shards, which releases energy, which in turn reacts with the different gene giving the conduit powers. they do not develope naturally, and kessler got his because of a temporal loop, kessler was just the end of the loop. see when kessler got his powers, he got it from the ray sphere just like cole, only his timeline includes not having kessler there, therefore it just took longer, therefore getting his powers too late, and noit being ready, along with trish never dying, marrying her, and going back in order to change it all so his second self (the player) to be ready by speeding up the process at which the ray sphere was made, preparing cole in advance for his battle with the beast. YOUR WELCOME EVERYONE.
It's mentioned several times over. Conduits would develop their powers naturally, raysphere or no. The only purpose of the raysphere in the first game was giving Cole powers YEARS before they'd naturally manifest (in Kessler's timeline)
xLePlay God, everybody gets it wrong. It is stated in the game that Kessler joining the First Sons only accelerates the development of the ray sphere. The First Sons were a thing several centuries before Kessler was even born and the events of Infamous, and their main purpose was the creation of the Ray Sphere to push evolution of mankind. In Kessler's timeline, the Ray Sphere was developed by them, and detonated some time after Kessler(Cole) was a family man. Every conduit in Empire City got their powers that way, including Kessler(Cole), and as evidence shown in Infamous 2 states, John White was also pulled into the vortex and became the beast. Kessler-Cole was already an awaken conduit when the Beast appeared, but he CHOSE to flee instead of fighting, until everything was destroyed and everyone he loved lost. He did so in order to protect his family, not because he wasn't strong enough. Then, he turned back in time, make his past-self become a ruthless villain or a strong hero, and cut loose his bonds to his loved ones (he made Zeke betray him and Trish die) so he would have nothing to lose. Then he would sacrifice himself if necessary to stop the beast for the greater good.
The both endings aftermaths evil and good are cool, But in good ending his voice sound like depressed Cole cheer it up you like God Zeus the lighting God or like Thor lightning god
Mladen Juric well he did lose his city, his girlfriend, his trust in his best friend and his future self. I think the guy needs a little time to be sad.
when I beat the game(good) and saw the ending my jaw dropped open for the whole time and when the credits started rolling i said only one thing... "MIND BLOWN" (true story)
I like the good ending better...sure, it's really sad, considering Cole's realizing he feels lonely, but...the evil ending is dark as hell. Besides, I like the idea of helping and defending people in the game, not killing every moving thing...I guess the good side was always more challenging that way.
The black lightning looks hella awesome! just finished my evil cole playthrough, im already halfway through good, this game was very well made. I just felt really sad for Zeke. I just hope in the next infamous that Zeke is your friend again. I dont care if Trish's death was his fault. He has gone through allot and I think of him as a big fat lovable character. I always loved it when he colled and hes like "yo man" or "hey brother". Makes you feel close to him.
Always loved the bittersweet ending to the good aftermath. Cole having been betrayed by Moya and Zeke is finally at a point where he is at peace but at the cost of his friendships with others
In one of the Dead Drops in Infamous 2, John said that Kessler told him he'd "play a very imortant role in the events to come". He knew John would become the beast.
Wow, I had forgotten the two endings were so... polarizing. Bad Karma ending makes Cole so cartoonishly evil, he's almost in league with the Captain Planet villains. While the Good Karma ending treats Cole's situation with superhero concepts and philosophies that are practically straight out of the Dark Knight. I'm glad they made things a little more balanced in the sequel.
It makes it a great plot twist that makes you reconsider your approach of the evil character, of the hero, of the game, so it's a great great ending indeed.
Playing as evil was so a awesome in infamous 1 it really felt like cole was really evil and just wanted to become more powerful XD but they kinda screwed up the moral choices in InFamous 2 tho (spoiler) you just choose between two girls :-(
These games were my absolute favorite as a child, todays children will never know the overwhelming joy of PS3 single player story games; they were unmatched back in the early 2000’s
Honestly for a single game, this story was actually REALLY good. Along with the second. I hope that once Sucker Punch releases Ghost of Tsushima, they return to the inFAMOUS series. It's one of my all time favourite game series.
If Kessler is Cole from a universe where he didn't get powers from the raysphere, how did Kessler actually get his powers? Was it explained in a comic or something, or is it just a huge plot hole?
Kessler is Cole from a universe where he had powers, he just chose to protect his family and not fight The Beast and in the processing screwing over humanity.
Michael Huffman Yeah, but conduits have to be activated somehow, you're not just born with powers, you have to activate them somehow, or train your whole life to fully control them, which very very few people can do.
Swifty777 in both infamous I first choice de ending that i want and after that i play the other ending, but man, infamous 2 bad ending is so hard, killing zeke is just to much, and seeing the rebeld and the milice fighting together againts the beast is so damm beautiful
Loved the ending to this game, went for the good ending myself, i really like Infamous 2 Cole but I have to say he was way more interesting in this one, plus he had a better voice. I like the new guy but Cole in inFamous 1 just seemed more gritty and cool, while to me I2 Cole sounds like he has a cold haha
infamous is a classic case of running a good idea into the ground, infamous was awesome and the sequel was great but Second Son and First Light kind of fell flat. I think the problem was they were awkwardly tacked-on to a established franchise that had run it's course. As a stand-alone series disconnected from the infamous storyline they're a lot of fun but even as a spin-off series they make no sense.
Blake Belladonna honestly they shouldn't have made second son or first light, if they wanted to continue making games they should have continued Coles Story by NOT KILLING HIM. The only thing impressive in second son is the graphics lmao the story bore me. Infamous 1 and 2 had me gasping at the twists and turns.
I always felt as if the franchise would've been 15x better if second son & first light were their own games rather than part of the infamous franchise.
Consider that Cole managed to beat Kessler and when the beast first appeared it still kicked the shit out of him The beast>cole>kessler. Because of this Kessler also started developing the blast cores so that after Cole's powers had reached their maximum levels he could still further improve himself.
It's really sad that such amazing games like Infamous series is literally dead because of Sony's selfishness and greed. Now not many people even know this game at all.
What are you talking about , gameplay in games has never looked better So many games , shadow of war , batman , infamous second son ( which was fun as hell ) , etc .
hold up if his future self came back in time and fought his past self then his future self would disappear cause his past self won't be doing what he did in the future and also the evil ending doesn't make sense cause if his past self was evil then how is his future self good cause his past self said that he uses his power for evil and that he will destroy anyone that thinks they can challenge him so wtf
There is going to be a inFAMOUS movie. It has been confirmed. The director will be the same guy who directed X-Men: First Class. But we may not see it in a few years because they are still working on the script :(
Aron 2018 How can anybody think Infamous 2 story is not lame? I mean, really? Only the endings were good. Everything else was poorly told. Bad narrative, bad to non existant character development, slow progression, no structure, stupid fake "story" missions that are actually fillers and should have been secondary, shallow dialogues... I could go on for a day.
Playing evil the game lasts so much longer because the special side missions are awesome and addictive and you keep craving the end of the game to see what happens as evil Cole. Also, you look badass with your whole sickly evil look plus the red lightning.
@strick1011 the first clip is just what plays when you beat the game after that when it showed the city with the sky red thats the evil ending , when cole killed kessler there is no karma involved , to get the good ending just go threw the game picking good ( blue ) karma choices and if the karma meter is on blue then when you finish the game you will get the good ending , there is only a good ( normal sky ) ending and a evil ( red sky ) ending no middle.
@bloodsoldierZ If you go evil theres side missions were you work with the Reapers and Sasha talks to you, and in the final boss fight with kessler Sasha cheers you on lol :P
@TheDarkerwarrior What I am talking about is (0:49) Kessler could have killed the beast, but chose in stead to be "selfish" and save his family. Plus he wasn't trying to train Cole for power, it was to be able to make that horrifying choice of possibly sacrificing himself and/or his family and friends in order to take the beast out at the ideal time.
@TheKyuubiJinchuriki yes he is permanently infamous. As you can see if you look at the karma meter the other karmic ranks(outlaw, thief, guardian, champion, hero) are not visible anymore, they are black so yes you are stuck over there(you can not be a hero and have the black lightning)
Can someone tell me exactly why the Beast came a few years too early? Kessler said that he could have stopped it when it first appeared but did not, and when it was too late he traveled back in time to prep Cole. This leads me to believe that Cole became strong enough to defeat John at some point down the road (Because Kessler is the most trustworthy person out there), had he not shown up when he did. This may have been explained somewhere else, but I must have missed it.
I love how Good Cole is well-written, flawed but still a nice guy *and Evil Cole is just a Captain Planet villain or something*
Yeah, pretty much.
Good Cole is an actual lovable character, and Evil Cole is just an unrestrained power fantasy.
I'm a fuckin rock. Good, I prefer evil, wish he’d return to fight Delson

Games like Middle Earth Shadow of War coming , Horizon Zero Dawn , Mass Effect Andromeda , Nioh , Tom Clancy Wildlands (which is very good, you would understand if you played the Beta) and more games TBA at E3 .
I understand . I got into gaming when i was 3 years old and got a PS1 .
i agree with the Braxx guy your just stuck bro and your refusing to evolve and move on due to the nostalgia.
In fact ive just completed it on good and actualy shed a tear at how sorry i felt for Cole XD
There should be a sequel, far too many cliff hangers
Did you like the sequel?
@@voultbioy6247lol 💀🤣
alright, to end the debate on how kessler got his powers, i shall do it.
conduits have a different gene in them than others, their powers are sort of "dormant", until the ray sphere, when PUSHED INWARD, reacts with the ray shards, which releases energy, which in turn reacts with the different gene giving the conduit powers. they do not develope naturally, and kessler got his because of a temporal loop, kessler was just the end of the loop. see when kessler got his powers, he got it from the ray sphere just like cole, only his timeline includes not having kessler there, therefore it just took longer, therefore getting his powers too late, and noit being ready, along with trish never dying, marrying her, and going back in order to change it all so his second self (the player) to be ready by speeding up the process at which the ray sphere was made, preparing cole in advance for his battle with the beast. YOUR WELCOME EVERYONE.
xLePlay that begs the question. how did he get the raysphere? just a simple accident? kinda like barry Allen an his powers?
It's mentioned several times over. Conduits would develop their powers naturally, raysphere or no. The only purpose of the raysphere in the first game was giving Cole powers YEARS before they'd naturally manifest (in Kessler's timeline)
xLePlay
God, everybody gets it wrong.
The good ending...made me cry....still makes me wanna cry.......cause everything he says about having powers is true
This twist gave me chills when I played the game! So good
when I beat the game(good) and saw the ending my jaw dropped open for the whole time and when the credits started rolling i said only one thing...
Greatest twist-cliffhanger ending ever, it sends chills down my spine every time
The ending was the most jaw-dropping experience in any game I've ever played. It was insanity.
I always get goosebumps when it goes to the wedding picture scene
Ikr , and the soundtrack stops... perfect
Black lightning looks like zig zags instead of lightning. It must be really strong.
It's crazy because I'm replaying this in 2024 it's still a great game after so many years
Does anyone know that Cole almost sounds like Shadow the Hedgehog?
And he's just as emo, edgy, angsty, too.
Andrew G more like Bipolar
The good ending Cole sounds like he's about to cry
Always loved the bittersweet ending to the good aftermath. Cole having been betrayed by Moya and Zeke is finally at a point where he is at peace but at the cost of his friendships with others
In one of the Dead Drops in Infamous 2, John said that Kessler told him he'd "play a very imortant role in the events to come". He knew John would become the beast.
It's 2020, I still think that this is one of the best endings in PS3 or PS4.
What if they stood with this older beast look, without the volcanic body, but a pitch black one.
Damn.. The chills..
It makes it a great plot twist that makes you reconsider your approach of the evil character, of the hero, of the game, so it's a great great ending indeed.
Now finally i understand, Kessler is cole but in future
Playing as evil was so a awesome in infamous 1 it really felt like cole was really evil and just wanted to become more powerful XD but they kinda screwed up the moral choices in InFamous 2 tho (spoiler) you just choose between two girls :-(
Women.
Cole get his power much earlier because of kesler, but so did the beast
Talk about irony..
One of the best plot twists in gaming history
I really hoped Infamous 2 had that red and black lighting... It just looks truly evil
The ending of the first one is EPIC. And the end of InFamous 2 doesn't drop the ball either, the good ending was the perfect end to the history.
Only 90's kids will remember the mission "anything for Trish"
I remember
It sucks they never tried to bring up time travelling again in a sequel or something.
They still could for InFAMOUS 3 (not second son or first light)
I loved this game so much. I downloaded it as a part of the "Welcome back package" and it is the second best game i ever played.
These games were my absolute favorite as a child, todays children will never know the overwhelming joy of PS3 single player story games; they were unmatched back in the early 2000’s
In Infamous 1 the good karma is better but in Infamous 2 the evil is way better
Mitchell Campbell Cause he doesn't die right? lol
Nah. It's more fun being the bad guy :)
+Mitchell Campbell I say the other way around
Killing Zeke? YOU FUCKING MONSTER!
***** oh you get powers eventually? oh, I thought it had to be activated. but why were there no conduits before the blast... or were there?
***** oh yeah, in the lodeing screen they do say in one of the little trivia things it does say that Eugene just "Developed powers"
To fix this problem, just refer to my top comment, it explains it.
i thought its better to be a good guy in these games
Yeah me too
Nah, evil endings are always the one to play for me. So fun, being an outlaw, destroying anything that gets in your way, it's quite fun.
Swifty777 in both infamous I first choice de ending that i want and after that i play the other ending, but man, infamous 2 bad ending is so hard, killing zeke is just to much, and seeing the rebeld and the milice fighting together againts the beast is so damm beautiful
It’s very difficult to shock me. But I remember when the credits rolled, I was just sitting there with my jaw considerably dropped
I love this game so many memories from when I was younger
short and good editing. liked.
He came a few years early because of the Ray Sphere appearing earlier
Holy shit this was written in 2012 or 2011
@@Skkeem yes
Loved the ending to this game, went for the good ending myself, i really like Infamous 2 Cole but I have to say he was way more interesting in this one, plus he had a better voice. I like the new guy but Cole in inFamous 1 just seemed more gritty and cool, while to me I2 Cole sounds like he has a cold haha
I miss Cole's voice. What happened to him in inFamous 2?!?!?! Goosebumps at 1:39. OMG!
@Firelord375 how to you get goose bumbs from the wedding picture.....to much scary games
infamous is a classic case of running a good idea into the ground, infamous was awesome and the sequel was great but Second Son and First Light kind of fell flat. I think the problem was they were awkwardly tacked-on to a established franchise that had run it's course. As a stand-alone series disconnected from the infamous storyline they're a lot of fun but even as a spin-off series they make no sense.
I ship Yang and Cole.
nice try but you and i both know the only match that can work is nora and cole
Blake Belladonna honestly they shouldn't have made second son or first light, if they wanted to continue making games they should have continued Coles Story by NOT KILLING HIM. The only thing impressive in second son is the graphics lmao the story bore me. Infamous 1 and 2 had me gasping at the twists and turns.
@@soniabadley Ikr
I always felt as if the franchise would've been 15x better if second son & first light were their own games rather than part of the infamous franchise.
Its funny in infamous1 he says when the beast comes he will be ready and in infamous2 he wasn't ready lol
I wish they would do a game with a backstory on Kesler
Second son map feels kinda small ngl. I still prefer playing the old infamous, i miss the era where people loved the gameplay, not the graphics.
What are you talking about , gameplay in games has never looked better
So many games , shadow of war , batman , infamous second son ( which was fun as hell ) , etc .
hold up if his future self came back in time and fought his past self then his future self would disappear cause his past self won't be doing what he did in the future and also the evil ending doesn't make sense cause if his past self was evil then how is his future self good cause his past self said that he uses his power for evil and that he will destroy anyone that thinks they can challenge him so wtf
Nate Moreno
its an alternate timeline.
Alper Gümülü explain
Nate Moreno
read the comment of "Lightning Blade"
Nate Moreno Either It's a time paradox or his powers protect himself from dyeing
Nate Moreno when you go back in time you create an alternative timeline so no paradoxes can happen
This would be a good movie lol
There is going to be a inFAMOUS movie. It has been confirmed. The director will be the same guy who directed X-Men: First Class. But we may not see it in a few years because they are still working on the script :(
@Mocasta
It only changes the part after the credits. The comic-looking ending is the same for both sides.
The goosebumps are real.
This game really got me, infamous 2 and second son were good gameplay but lame story.
Felix The Neko Femboy Nope,storywise
+Forfax Sake how does not being a fan of a story determine whether someones autistic or not?
+Arie Ortiz Welcome to the internet
+Forfax Sake indeed haha
Aron 2018
How can anybody think Infamous 2 story is not lame? I mean, really? Only the endings were good. Everything else was poorly told. Bad narrative, bad to non existant character development, slow progression, no structure, stupid fake "story" missions that are actually fillers and should have been secondary, shallow dialogues...
I could go on for a day.
The real question is, how the fuck Kessler got his powers?
ray sphere
@TytsyFly
It's part of the "welcome back" psn package which allows you to choose two out of five games, Infamous is one of them.
Playing evil the game lasts so much longer because the special side missions are awesome and addictive and you keep craving the end of the game to see what happens as evil Cole. Also, you look badass with your whole sickly evil look plus the red lightning.
Still dont understand how you can go from good in infamous 1 to super evil villain absorbing the beast in infamous 2
Love that evil lighting. Black and Red.
I say it again.......why hasn't Sucker Punch remastered InFamous 1 and 2 for the PS4
Can someone please tell me the name of the song at 2:54 It's driving me crazy trying to figure it out.
14 years later.
@nickcosta65 the first one is the ending to the actual game, the evil and good endings are after the credits.
Will you ever comeback to youtube?
@bloodsoldierZ
If you go evil theres side missions were you work with the Reapers and Sasha talks to you, and in the final boss fight with kessler Sasha cheers you on lol :P
Seems like they don’t make games this good anymore.
Dark lightning was a pretty cool and badass concept that i missed in the second game.
I really do relate to the good Cole line, "I've never been more alone".
@thedarkroadtoheaven Because he was a conduit, a person with a specific gene that gives him powers. It explain in the cutscenes.
