I think when he's retired and coaching (particularly if he follows in his father's footsteps across other lands) people will see he was a strong competitor, a natural rugby player, and a decent human being. It is underlooked his charity work and support outside of rugby. While he has had moments of petulance (in his first years) and reckless technique, he has always seemed to learn and grow from these and earn the respect of his teammates and opposition.

Nah. He was the beneficiary of one the best pack of forwards club rugby has ever seen and to a more limited extend when England had many of those same forwards playing at their best.
I cannot remember one game for England OF led a fightback or dominated with line breaks, offloads or superb passing. He lacks creativity and is not only reliant on a dominant pack he is also a hostage to whatever system his team is playing. He lacks the ability to break from that system, to improvise and find ways to combat what another team is doing to stop England's attack.
I contrast that with other 10s and there is a pile of evidence of them doing exactly what OF can't do on a regular basis.

This is BS. He is a good player no more than that. On the back foot? He is an ordinary 10 at best. People move right past some facts about OF to crown him.
      1. He played for a Saracens team so loaded their 2nd string pack was still one of the best in Europe
      2. His "creativity" over his career? Is nowhere near his peers (Sexton, BB, Russell, Ntamack, Pollard and Richie M).
      3. In his prime at Sarries, Wigglesworth was the #1 tactical kicker
4, He misses tackles in bunches. In at least 3 6N he had more missed tackles than any other player
      5. His "tackling" technique has gotten him in trouble multiple times and if he wasn't OF? Would've have far more
      6. This season he is playing on a slightly above average team and it shows. Despite Sarries beating Lyon, OF was atrocious. He was equally as poor v Bordeaux.
      7. In every match up with Russell, club and country since 2018? Russell has easily been the better player.

Clearly Bok fans loved it but by degrading Farrell for it you are essentially saying that Kolbe got passed Farrell due to a mistake Farrell made rather than Kolbe skill.
I don’t know what a top 20 back line means, or how you would rank players by position and by what criteria. Also would Farrell be ranked as a 10 or a 12. I don’t know where he ranks in the world, but assessing his career or any players based on a single game is hardly representative or reflective on any player. For example what if we assessed Eben’s career and ranking based on last years Toulon and Lyon’s game. He had a shocker that day and by using your ranking method he wouldn’t have made the top 100.

At Cardiff in 2013 I was watching him warming up before the game, punting from half way down the 5m/15m channel to Stuart Lancaster on the try line and Lancaster barely had to move. Really. He might have taken a half step once out of half a dozen kicks which otherwise landed right in the old bread basket. I was very impressed but most of all, worried. Farrell only got to where he is because of Daddy’s influence. After years in international rugby, and too many dangerous tackles that he always seems to get away with, Farrell still cannot resist an opportunity to try to injure an opponent. That makes him a menace, not an “elite” player. Even his teammates punch him. How he avoided a card from his most recent transgression is beyond me, and most intelligent viewers. Red cards have been handed out for much, much less. But there was little Owen, still on the pitch to kick a drop goal and steal the win. He should have been sitting in the dressing room after being sent off. Instead, he smirks his way past the officials who were apparently scared to do what they should have done. Can any of you blind fanboys explain that?

    • @patrickchilds2987

What is it about Farrell that makes you so crazy ? I get you don’t like him and that’s totally fine, nobody cares, but you are flinging such bs that only the most gullible Bok fan could possibly believe.
Not sure attributing his career to his fathers influence has any substance whatsoever, I think you overestimate Andy Farrell’s influence back in the day even as a player who came from RL. OFarrels went through the England youth set up even while his father was still playing Rugby League.
Allegedly Farrell deliberately tries to injure other players and that he has had a long history of dangerous tackles is an accusation you can throw at any rugby player. The reality is that in professional rugby any player like that would have been weeded out at junior club level. No team can afford to carry a player like that . Also his discipline record for his club and the international game is excellent.
Given the media spotlight and the scrutiny that he gets from people like you I find it hard that he would, however what has he got away with and have other players got away with anything similar?
A 100 national caps and captaining his side for many of them does make him an elite player as much as you don’t want to credit him with that . His playing career to date is impressive by any players standards, but you don’t think it counts.
Getting punched by a teammate is hardly a rare occurrence in any team, although I’m guessing you are referring to Farrell getting punched by Brits. Why didn’t you comment on Brits public regret for doing that ?
Ultimately it doesn’t matter if you as a fan like or dislike him for whatever reason real of imaginary. He polarises opinion amongst fans like few others in the game. And yet amongst the refs and the international coaching and playing community he seems to be a liked a respected player.
