@@gonzdoom Take it, Anthony! They're solid, quiet, agile, ultra-reliable, peppy, smooth & oh, so comfortable -- true sleepers!
My 99 Max has 200 k miles, purrs like a pussycat & hugs the road like a rally car; it feels like a tailored suit or a well worn shoe.
Hitting a stretch of new freeway asphalt at 80 mph feels like a plane after takeoff... nothing but the wind.
No road noise, no cabin noise, no engine noise, no vibrations -- just the whoosh of the wind... LIFE IS GOOD :-)

I finally bought one today. been looking a long time. 1997 base model. Cloth seats, which I much prefer. 44,000 miles, one one owner, elderly couple who passed away. I purchased it from a small time dealer in a small town. He was friend of the couple and took care of the car. I wanted a good one and I got it. Looking forwards to years of enjoyment.

Purchased as third owner on a 5th Generation 2000 Maxima GXE with ~ 63K miles on her. That was 16 years ago. She now has 306K miles and still running great with some maintenance and repairs. Replaced struts, mounts, radiator, starter and in for the second replacement of ignition coils, but other than that, I love this car! Just put new tires on and an updated aftermarket stereo just like you mentioned. Everyone, including my mother, keeps asking when I’ll buy a new car, but I don’t know how or when I can let Maggie go. Friends are always surprised how well she drives when they find themselves behind the wheel. I hope to see her to 500k! Thanks for all the Maxima videos. I like to see what’s being worked on even though I don’t work on her myself.

I've made many of the same repairs on a 4th gen Maxima as you did and the rust, especially on the lower radiator support is spot on. Other problems that came up that are somewhat common are the spark plug tube gaskets leaking. I had to replace those. The EVAP canister that sits behind the driver side rear wheel also had to be replaced.

My grandma has a 1996 Maxima with only 56k (she doesn't drive that much). It's in AMAZING shape. The cloth seats have NO rips at all, the dash is in tip top shape, but the interior could use a cleaning. I took it for a quick spin today to keep everything running right since it sits for a while sometimes, and I was instantly reminded of how solid that car is. The engine and transmission were buttery smooth. The brakes, oh my god, one slight tap of the pedal sent me flying forward.

I have a 97 Cefiro Station Wagon and it's great, these videos are really helpful for keeping up with maintenance. This Summer I have to do both the rocker cover gaskets as they are leaking badly. The old gal has nearly 260,000Kms on the clock, so there is always something needs doing, but the engine and transmission are both still great. I do oil and filter changes every 7500kms using a genuine Nissan oil filter.. Great car that should last a few years yet.

I have such fond memories of my 1995 Maxima SE 5spd. It was such a great car in all respects. A few years after the warranty expired, I decided to hang onto it longer, so I ditched the old tape player radio for a modern MP3 CD player & radio setup and replaced the shocks/struts with a stiffer setup, plus anti-sway bars. It totally changed up the handling performance. But after 13 years and just about 175k miles, it was tired. Needed a whole new muffler system. Lots of underbody chassis rust. I was ready to move on. But still have so many great memories of that car.

Hi, thanks for your review Video. I also own 1997 Maxima and I'm the original owner. Recently I had the body work done as the fenders rusted from the mid-west climate. BTW great job on posting repair videos. My vehicle has the same level of reliability and very few items had to be replaced over the years, starter being one of them and bunch of sensors plus regular maintenance. One observation, you suggested to use 87 octane gasoline, which might be okay, however owners manual says 92 (mid grade). I've, over the years, used 87 for a short period of time and the motor wasn't performing up to its specs and it would rattle at times.

Great Video! You pointed out ALL of the common problems with the 4th gen maxima. I have a 97 SE with 142K . I just replaced the "lower radiator support" last year. It is kind of a pain but not terrible. When you need to replace the "LRS" use a genuine Nissan part, do not go after market the difference in quality is huge!

    • @toyotaracing5578
      @toyotaracing5578 7 лет назад

No problem! Off the subject of Maximas in general, but when replacing the LRS you will need a welder. I picked up one from Harbor Freight tools for about $100. (90 amp flux core) It worked great for the application. At that price there is no reason to rent one.

Nice video. I always rinse off bottom of my 2006 Matrix after driving on salted roads. It's still in really good shape-no significant rust anywhere. Also change oil myself every 5-6k miles with Mobil 1 full synthetic (new plug gasket every time) and a Mobil 1 filter. Still runs perfect. Also periodically change out all fluids (Diff, TC, Power Steering every 60k/Trans flush every 30k/Brake fluid flush every 50k/ Coolant flush every 5yr or 100k).

I bought a 2000 Infiniti I30 on Apr 2015 with 205k miles. So far, it is the best car I ever have! It has 269k now(Sep 2016). The engine is smooth, powerful, it sounds good and got 28 mpg all the time(90% highway) and have seen 33 mpg on long road trip! I replaced the air filter, brake pads, rotors, spark plugs, battery, alternator, ac compressor, drive belt, radiator fan, control arm, idle air control valve gasket, front strut, and changed the Trans fluid. I use Pennzoil Platinum, it doesn't burn any oil between 5k oil change until recently(0.5 qt every 2.5k which is still very good for an old high mileage car). I think the PCV valve is next. And it will need the rear engine mount in the future. The engine light is on for cat but it still pass with 1 not ready. The car been and remain sitting outside, we putted seat cover on the front seat. Beside the Bose woofer on the rear deck isn't working, the driver seat doesn't move up or down and the window move slowly in winter, everything works inside the car. Rust isn't too bad on mine but will work on it. So far it is the best car I have! Looking forward to make the 300, 500k or even 1 million miles mark!

I feel like I have a brand new car under the hood cause that's how much I replaced. ALOT of work and a lot of hard earned cash. Do you still have the car? if not I feel your sadness, My fav car I had was Gen1 Toyota Celica GT with High-performance cam and headers exhaust I hated to sell it. it had 400k+ miles
the 3.0L Nissan V6 was about the best Engine Nissan has ever made
    I have a 2001 maxima 213k miles
I just passed on to my son 1 year ago at 198k miles
Your vids and others have been helpful.
Stuff I have done or had done
    - radiator replaced twice
    - radiator fans once
    - struts
    - coil
    - plugs
    - oil changes every 3-4k miles
    -alternator replacement
    - belts
    - flush transmission via 3x drain fill
Fluid got dirty after it overheated twice for a very brief time and burned ATF. and now gets p0744
I used Lucus, seafoam transtune, to get it to be drivable.
    -pvc valve
    - intake gaskets (fel-pro kit)
    - breaks and Rotors
    - starter x2
    - blower motor
    - blower motor resistor
    - power window motor
    - break light switch and stopper
    - speed sensor x2
    - o2 sensor(s)
    - right controller arm
    - intake boot
    - power steering hose leak (bad)
    - throttle body gaskets, I was leaking coolant there
    - fixed. leaking water into trunk(leaking thru break lights)
    - batteries
    - light bulbs
    - tires
    - 2 minor accidents ( one front end . One rear end)
Issues left: but it runs Gr8
    - Transmission p0744 may need new solenoids and/or valve body. It sometimes slips into neutral under heavy acceleration if you are trying to race)
    - rear main seal,
AT205 reseal additive and high mileage oil is helping along with oil stabilizer and using 10w30 instead (the climate where I live rarely gets below 30F)
    - a/c Compressor is getting weak and leaks some Freon but still works
    - p0160 randomly happens
I really wish it was a stick shift I wouldn’t have the transmission issues today if it was a manual.
The car was my wife’s but got passed to me after she got a minivan and I sold my Altima (gen1 5speed)

Another great video...You are so right. Basic maintenance is very important to the longevity of a vehicle....and. It is true, that there will come a time, that some pricey items will have to be replaced, and we've all had to decide if it is worth the cost. Like you, I've always done my own work, saved a lot on labor, but your videos are very informative, clear, and helpful to a lot of people. You are a natural ! I wish you tube was around when I was younger, I'd be doing the same thing..haha. Thanks, Matt.

I just got rid of my 97 Maxima. It had just under 300k on it. I bought it from my mechanic with over 200k. The day I junked it, the engine was still strong. Sadly, the car was structurally falling apart. The entire undercarriage and frame were rusted out, as well as a significant part of the body. Plus, it had a ton of other issues not worth fixing. I loved that car and it took me over two years to decide to get rid of it. Never had a car that had such quiet engine. I used to think it stalled on me at red lights.

Solid built car. Rear ended someone, to my dismay cuz mine had no ABS, going about 10-20 miles an hour, and it moved the car to hit someone else and dent in their bumper too. Only damage was cracked plastic on front and knocked off my + connection for my battery. Bought it at 141,000 in mid 2021, had to replace a fuel injector and replace starter.

I have a 2000 Maxima se Manual 5speed. Very accurate with maintenance upkeep. I've done almost all you have done plus a lot more. I'm in the process of repairing my exhaust at the moment so your exhaust repairs/tips would be very helpful! My flex pipe in between my down stream and upstream cats have a crack so I did a patch repair temporarily. Along with that, the weld where my muffler pipe going over my rear axel to meet the resonator also rusted away so I'm in the process of re welding that.
2 more things; would you please post the video of your rear wheel well panel fix/replacement? 🙏🏽 like your Maxima, mine too has some bad rust damage from the harsh winters here in Indiana.
Lastly, I have a faint rattle/knocking I notice when I'm outside my car. It goes away or I can't hear it when in higher rpm or rev. Any tips? Feel free to message me privately!
    Thanks! -Nate

Hey buddy, I loved the video and it was very interesting how you repaired this Maxima. I got a 1996 Max from a private owner. Fixed the starter. The problem I'm getting is this: when I take a turn at a high speed, let's say 50mph, why does it feel like the back is swaying? And the second question is what should b the best tire pressure for the Maxima running 205/65-15? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

This will help regarding the rear end: ruclips.net/video/dxpaJNaXO-k/видео.html
