It wasn't because of RHCP that the song kind of disappeared. It was a single that wasn't on her first album, but by the time of the second and final album she was on a different label and they couldn't put this on that. With no desire on the part of her first label to reissue with this track on it it sits in a cdsingle only limbo. Big shame as its a great track
"I steal directly from the people that I love. When I like something that a good musician does, I STEAL IT completely, and thats what ALL good musicians do, you dont puss around, when something's good you use it. That's what it's for." - Flea in an interview
In all honesty that is not what pisses me off. It's the fact that in an interview she said that before she recorded the song she knew it sounded like Under The Bridge but kept it.
No, its for other people to enjoy in a way that is different to how you enjoy music, that's all. No one is forcing you to listen to music you don't like.
@rockerseven One part of this song is very reminiscent of Under the Bridge. But honestly, considering how many songs there are in the popworld that sound exactly the same, I'm actually glad that an artist pays homage to such an awesome band as RHCP.
Now we're getting somewhere :) Just don't be so harsh to people who like different music to you. If everyone had the same opinions as you, you'd be bored shitless.
You'll notice that no RHCP fanboys will reply to this comment because they won't want to acknowledge that you've proved they're arguments and anger are completely void. Nice one by the way :)
As much as I agree with your point, both series are based on the original book series of course, so having the two main characters called Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the American series wouldn't be copying the Moffat series.
Hush hush secret Ur secret’s safe with me Hush hush keep it Under lock and key I’ll lead you follow Cuz I shiver When u brush my lips Stand deliver U were made for this I know I should go Oh my wicked heart Beats out of time for you God knows I see stars It’s meant to feel this good Whoops cuz I got that feeling Whoop bye here I come again Whoops my hands are combined Whoop bye here I come again
Anybody who knows a damn about music, or how to write can tell that this is NOT a rip off of Under the Bridge. The vocal melody in the chorus is similar, but it's pretty clear that it wasn't intentional. Pop/rock music is pretty limited as far as writing goes, generally sticking to a small group of harmonies, and chord progressions, and melodic phrases. With only 12 notes to play with this stuff happens all the time. It's impossible to write something truly original, every pop song is similar to at least a handful of other songs. This one just happened to be similar to a very popular one. Also it's not RHCP who sued her, it was Warner. RHCP can't decide if Warner wants to sue someone. Warner has always been greedy.
"Vickers admitted in an interview that she had been listening to "Under The Bridge" shortly before working on "My Wicked Heart" and had noticed but decided to ignore the similarities." I don't really mind what she did I'm just gonna put this out here
Saying it's impossible to write something original is just bullshit. Music is more than just 12 notes and a few chords... There's Tempo, Key signatures, time signatures, modes, dynamics... Tons of things that can be different, arrangement, mixing, mastering. To say you "know a damn" about music and come out with such a narrow view of what writing music entails is absolute rubbish. Yeah, pop music might be somewhat generic to a more musically aware listener, but there's no denying that writers of pop music aren't talented if they're able to consistently write music that ends up in worldwide charts, whether you like it or not is irrelevant to how much work or skill goes into it.
So when I was 10 this was my fav song ever and after searching for so many years I finally found it and I see this rip off bullshit. I'm a huge fan of rhcp but hell this doesn't sound ANYTHING like them. Maybe the melody is similar but that's only for what 10 seconds of the song? It's not that deep
I think these are the words I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day Take me to the place I love, take me all the way I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
Obviously it's a RHCP'S 'enspired' track🤫 but aside from that, she's got a vibe of Kate Bush and Poloma Faith with the Circus video vibe of Britney Spears. This young lady had potential.
@Luckyman187 listen to the way they sing it... and you want to hear a real rip off listen to dani california and then undo it...idk if rhcp gave her copyright permission but it sound just alike
@LiLiOfficial I'm just gonna say we're all wrong and wait until the official lyrics come out. She kinda looks like Hayden Panettiere from 0:25 to 0:27.
Incidentally i AM a RHCP fan, but I'm not some insane hipster teenager who thinks whatever they do is untouchable and that they are Gods. I see this song as a cool little tribute to Under the Bridge, it isn't a great song, but it's fun. The fact it has riled so many people mystifies me. There are way more important things in the world to give a shit about.
Who cares? Under the Bridge has over 7 million views, this has 36 000. It isn't going to affect anyones career or make RHCP cry. They'll be famous for many many years and Diana Vickers won't be. So stop being pissed off. And why would you watch a Diana Vickers interview? It's not like she says anything interesting.
I'm kinda loving this argument because this is what always happens in music. I'm an 80s child at hert and so many hits of the 90's and 2000's took their hooks directly from other great songs. Sampling happens all the fucking time these days. The me taking being if it sounds good and sold well use it again. Basically yeah it's a sample suck it up. Depeche mode did, ultravox did, a-ha did, Wilson picket, cypress hill, Avicii, etc... Thought RHCP fans would have more class.
now i don't really get why people are saying this is a rip off of under the bridge to me they sound nothing alike even if they have the same chord progression in the same key same everything anyway Dani California sounds a hell of allot like sweet home Alabama for the first few bars. point is music is old and allot of it has been done before lots of songs sound similar people just come hear to complain about what they see as mainstream crap when really Diana is just trying to make it in the music industry you should respect that don't take the piss because your not a fan of the genre.
missing the point entirely and you think the song is shit its an important distinction i'm not the biggest fan either but you have to respect that Diana is just another artist trying to make a living off her music nothing wrong with that
well if she dint write the song fair enough but if she did I highly doubt she deliberately stole parts of under the bridge and re purposed them for this song
Egiyt Actually she admitted it. She had heard 'Under the Bridge' the day they started writing sessions, and she said she must had subconsciously copied the chorus melody. Sure lots of songs have the same chord progressions, but the melody can still be different.. and this chorus is note for note identical to the Chilli's track.
Right off the bat, I'll establish myself as a loyal Red Hot Chili Peppers fan. I own every album, every b-side, and I have a poster of them hanging in my room. But I like this song as well. I'm not partial to genres. I believe the Chili Peppers have a case against Vickers, however. Especially when she publicly admits, "'Why does it sound so familiar?' Then we [Vickers and company] realized it was because we were listening to Under The Bridge the day before." That comment has lost her the case.
Oh yeah and to top it off RHCP sampled songs themselves the bass riff in give it away is a sped up progression identical to sweet lead by Black Sabbath and Dani California is suspiciously similar to Mary Janes last dance by Tom petty. So try to be less hypocritical.
The bands I really love are Led Zeppelin, Korn, and the Beatles. I also like a lot of Nicki Minaj's songs. And Nobuo Uematsu is a genius, i'm sure you'll agree. And I like this song too. I like music that is amazing, and music I know is a bit shit. You need guilty pleasures in life :)
I actually don't see the resemblance to that under the bridge song seriously. They're different lyrics different artists. I never even knew about that under the bridge song before this.

can you please put the lyrics in the description box?
WTF the chorus isn't even identical, there are clear differences in intonation (she ends "Oh my wicked heart" on a higher note than "I don't ever want to be"). This is no more plagiarism than plenty of other songs on the radio.
She admitted she listened to 'Under the Bridge' by RHCP while writing this song. It's not just a coincidence that the chorus sounds the same as it, she blatantly copied it and somehow thought she'd get away with it...
The Americans did that. They stole Sherlock from England and changed the name and John Watson to a girl. They called it Elemental. They're like "Oh, it's okay! We changed John to Joan!"
Okey, but Diana says she copied it from the Peppers... So what's the whole deal? When you like this music go listen this music, when you like the peppers, like this a little bit and give your critics.
Ok I thought this song was just a figment of my imagination bc NO ONE ELSE remembered it. I'm trippin out over here, my dudes
I think they quietly pulled the song off radar cause of legal issues with the red hot chilli peppers I think it was that band
Diana Vickers Knickers
I used to have this on replay all the time back in 2010!
"I DON'T EVER WANNA FEEEEEEEL, LIKE I DID THAT DAY,
TAKE ME TO THE PLACE I LOOOOOOVE, TAKE ME ALL THE WAY!"... Oh shit wrong video.
Ross Geller HAHAHAHA XD
😅
I love this song so much. I wish it was on Deezer 😭

Am I the only one that likes this song?!
+lapiz98 no your not. amazing
+arsemonkeys147 I always listened to this song when I was a kid, it really is my favorite song...I'm glad I'm not alone. :)
+arsemonkeys147 Thank you. great song
I was obsessed with this song when I was 16, five years later I still love it
Also liked it when it was on RHCPs album 25 years ago
I have been looking for this song for AGES!
Why isn’t it on Apple Music?
This is still an absolute banger. Love this.
The chorus is from ''Under the Bridge"
I understand 10% of the lyrics but I like it,
"I steal directly from the people that I love.
Ironically whenever I listen to Under the Bridge, in my mind I sing 'Oh my wicked heart .....' LOL
Sounds like red hot chilly take me to the place take me all away same tune
The song is actually really good :)
No, its for other people to enjoy in a way that is different to how you enjoy music, that's all. No one is forcing you to listen to music you don't like.
"All Right Reserved"
buhahahaha
@rockerseven One part of this song is very reminiscent of Under the Bridge. But honestly, considering how many songs there are in the popworld that sound exactly the same, I'm actually glad that an artist pays homage to such an awesome band as RHCP.

I love her music :) she´s awesome x.

The chorus is stupidly close to Under the Bridge
I’m only after noticing that years later ffs. 🤣
I do love this pop throwback
This song was 15 year to late. I would have lapped it up in my teens. Sounds so 90s!
As much as I agree with your point, both series are based on the original book series of course, so having the two main characters called Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in the American series wouldn't be copying the Moffat series.
quality song i absolutely love this girl, not for her looks she has such talent and potential she is going to be the next beatles

@AlPesabre kako nema, skoro isti refren kao under the bridge, ocigledno nisi cuo tu pesmu...
She said that they realised after they had finished it that it sounded similar but she thought that it didn't matter so they didn't change it :D
Still love this song
Anybody who knows a damn about music, or how to write can tell that this is NOT a rip off of Under the Bridge. The vocal melody in the chorus is similar, but it's pretty clear that it wasn't intentional.

Hey kid, don't tell anybody but I like this version better.
Girl you have no idea how long it took me to find this😂
@billlover93 That's not a source, that's hearsay. I can easily counter it with my own hearsay: I recall her saying they used different chords.
Still love it 😍
I think these are the words
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
I don't ever wanna feel like I did that day
Take me to the place I love, take me all the way
@billlover93 Site your source, because I recall her saying they realized it sounded like it but that they used different chords.
Obviously it's a RHCP'S 'enspired' track🤫 but aside from that, she's got a vibe of Kate Bush and Poloma Faith with the Circus video vibe of Britney Spears. This young lady had potential.
@ilyearer the cords are exactualy the same, she said so herself
YOU HAD ME AT HUSH HUSH SECRET
love the video. trying to enjoy the song..
Diana Vickers is the coolest thing to come out of X Factor ever.
@rockerseven There was talks of that nearly 2 years ago...when this song was released, but it fell through because she DID get permission. Catch up.
Still love this epic track!
Luxe Luxe I need to get this on CD or high quality MP3
Did he really? I can play both on guitar and even though they share the C and E chords they are an entirely different rythm.
Is it okay to be in love with a song? I might need help. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
@xBeautifulOrdinaryx She's gonna be performing it on the X Factor results show this Sunday! Whooopie!
Fantastic sentiment my dear fellow. The highest of fives to you.
The best thing/song to come out of Xfactor
I completely agree.
No they tried to sue her. But I think it's pathetic, there's no reason to think that its actually copied its just a similar tune.
this should be uploaded onto her Vevo channel
@Luckyman187 listen to the way they sing it... and you want to hear a real rip off listen to dani california and then undo it...idk if rhcp gave her copyright permission but it sound just alike
@LiLiOfficial I'm just gonna say we're all wrong and wait until the official lyrics come out. She kinda looks like Hayden Panettiere from 0:25 to 0:27.
*cough* under the bridge *cough*
Yeah a massive skag head band suing an innocent little pussy hole
wanted to hear this the other day when i saw her LIVE! but the songs she sung were amazing!
her voice is A M A Z I N G

under the bridge !!! plagio
NO ES NECESARIO QUE DIGA LO MISMO SINO EN LA MELODIA , PARA PODER SER UN PLAGIO
Sounds suspiciously familiar
Incidentally i AM a RHCP fan, but I'm not some insane hipster teenager who thinks whatever they do is untouchable and that they are Gods. I believe she admitted to listening to Under The Bridge whilst this song was written.
SHE, IS, PERFECT....
This Song Reminds Me Of A Mashup Of En Vogue's My Lovin And Red Hot Chilli Peppers Under The Bridge.
RHCP wanted to sue Diana for this I'm sure they want their fans to hate her.
Who cares? Under the Bridge has over 7 million views, this has 36 000. It isn't going to affect anyones career or make RHCP cry. They'll be famous for many many years and Diana Vickers won't be. First of all Dani California is a rip off of Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers "Mary Janes Last Dance" second of all this song is shit!
missing the point entirely and you think the song is shit its an important distinction i'm not the biggest fan either but you have to respect that Diana is just another artist trying to make a living off her music nothing wrong with that

So do I, does that make me a pervert? :D
hahaha i guess not

absolute beast of a tune, ridiculous there was issues with it..

wow.. This definitely sounds like Under the Bridge. I typically do not get behind these foolish lawsuits, but this one has some real merit! dang !!
Underrated
The Americans did that. They stole Sherlock from England and changed the name and John Watson to a girl. They called it Elemental. They're like "Oh, it's okay! We changed John to Joan!"
this should be the video for britney spears circus LOOL
Think you replied to the wrong comment there
Is it just me or does she really look like Buffy era Sarah Michelle Gellar?
Okey, but Diana says she copied it from the Peppers... So what's the whole deal? When you like this music go listen this music, when you like the peppers, like this a little bit and give your critics.
Such a good original song, make some more
