Easily my favest rendition of this charming sonata. Both the interpretation by two great ones as well the audio recording are wonderful. I tried Richter/Rostropvich, Argerich/Maisky, all great interpretations no doubt I like, but this is my favest. Thx for this wonderful upload! ❤❤
Great performance by both. Thanks.
Beethoven, Cello, Piano and two great musicians! What else do you need really?
The most beautiful cellotune I ever had heard and what a strong engagement and feeling.
+Berrnt Ortner Totally Agree. Most beautiful cello sound.
Berrnt Ortner I had the vinyl ( When I was a young man ) , the vinyls, with the five cello - piano sonatas by these performers, and I also fell in LOVE specially with this first sonata. It seems me incredible then that this work was relativly not much known.
Watching great musicians play great music is endlessly fascinating
The Empathy and the Chemistry between these two performers are impressive. What a fragrant Cello sonata with delightful intonation and beauty.
Thank you for this treasure from 1985. Beautifully realized by both players. A joy. Bravo!
I'm hearing intonation issues from the very first note....disappointing.
Cy Gilbert
let's hear your version :)
Cy Gilbert rubbish comment... Breathtaking performance..
Lindo video!!
Gracias!! 😍❤️

A fine performance with perfectly judged tempi.
u mean tempos
@@iansmith8263 I meant ''Tempi'' it's the plural in Italian.
@@meredith218461 yes, but your sentence was in English, so you should use the English plural, which is tempos if u didnt know. I'm only here to help. Got to go now; i'm going to the shop to comprare della pasta.
@@iansmith8263 You're so wrong, jerkkk!
14:55 WHOA it's crazy how similar this is to the beginning of Beethoven's 9th piano sonata!!! scales degrees 5 up a fourth to 1, then 6 up to 2, then 7 to 5... same harmonic progression beneath them, same rhythm of melody (lower note of tetrachord on beat 1, upper note on beat 3) The piano sonata is in E, this is in F, there's no way this is an accident. He must have wanted to keep going with it.
He did a string-quartet version of that piano sonata, in... F!
Oh..Wow!.
Grand due speaking with Grand Beethoven by language they know only. Bravo!
Just a sidenote: I love how the audience respected the recording. I didn't notice any audible coughing or carrying on, even between the movements.
cuz they werent micd up
Wonderful!!!
Thanks for uploading!
Bravo!!!! 🎼🎵🎶❤️
I have the CDs of them playing all of Beethoven's cello sonatas, a gem of my Beethoven collection.
Thanks for Posting!
You are welcome.
Please enjoy my contents.

Gosh they both looked so young... But apparently Ax aged a lot faster than Ma after this:-P
is Yo Yo stressful to work with?Im only Axking
@@keithlambe211 only stressful if yo don't have the _chops_ to keep up.
A wonderful document of the early collaboration of these two great artists captured in a live setting! Unfortunately the camera work is often showing its ineptness by not following the musical lines and focusing on a wrong partner at a given time, which can be quite frustrating to watch!
A sonoridade é maravilhosa.
Too much on their faces
Ja er spielt super Cello. Aber wozu diese affektierten Grimassen ?
Sorry, far prefer the old Paul Tortelier version. Way better.
This guys name is yo yo
This is typical Yo-Yo Ma playing Yo-Yo Ma and not Beethoven.
But- Yo-Yo Ma didn't write the sonata...
