Really surprised that you haven't considered Mohammad Shami returning to the Indian line up in the next few tests. He is exceptionally good and can play lead role should Bumrah not available.
Did we not mention it at all? We’ve definitely talked about it among ourselves off camera. We didn’t want to try to predict lineups for Adelaide too much just yet since there is still a week or so to go and India has another game before then. But yes it would be great to see Shami join the squad.

Great podcast. First time listener and I've subscribed. Hoping India can stay level headed, keep the aggression and play with the same blueprint i.e. the stable batting approach at the top.
I didnt really expect this performance from India after the 0-3 debacle at home against NZ and missing players here.. I still wont go hard on Aus as they would probably come back much more determined in 2nd Test.. But I still feel anyone could win at Adelaide since ball will be moving corners in D/N conditions with pink kookaburra ball since the red ball itself if doing a lot nowadays, and pink might have extra coat of lacquer... I am really happy with how Siraj bowled here, was most worried about him being loose and giving away runs from the other end, but as Gavaskar mentioned maybe it was coz of recovering from Dengue which he contracted 2 weeks before NZ series, he did well in SA earlier in the year.. I will still stick with my earlier prediction of 2:2 with draw at SCG.. anything better than that would be absolutely great for India..
Yes agree that there’s still plenty of time for Australia to come back - pink ball tests are so often decided by who manages the game well enough to bowl under lights. This result has set up a fascinating series!
Great podcast for the Cricket nuts like me. Some suggestions: Any way you guys can do short 5 min segments on batting techniques and highlight flaws ? The Perth test is a goldmine for that. 😃

Having bumrah capt is very good.. Because virat kohli helps in captaincy decision..as this was seen during the test match.. I'm a little skeptical for rohit sharma as captain

@@thetoporderpodcastRohit is a senior guy but as a leader he's quite defensive in all formats of the game, especially in tests. You both guys speak sane! Still 4 tests are left ! As long as Bumrah stay fit and play all 4 we will have a chance to keep BGT! We have a few liabilities in our team as well. Rohit, Virat scored a century after a year, Ashwin struggling, Rahul befuddles so often. Pink test will decide who is winning BGT. If we win the Pink test then I don't see Ozzie make come back..
Yes still plenty of time for Australia to make a comeback - that was a statement performance from India though to put the pressure right onto the Aussies.
Yes - that was exciting news for him and for NZ cricket fans! We talk about him in our next episode, which will go live around 9pm NZ time. We recorded it straight after this one but wanted to give this episode a day to get out there first. In short, he’s a young player who is quite new to domestic cricket here in NZ, but he’s shown himself to be an excellent hitter of the ball so far!
After this, even if Aust wins the next 4 matches, I will be happy as India has shown that it can defeat any team anywhere anytime. Of course, certain times, things go horribly wrong as against NZ but as long the players fight till the end, it’s good enough.
India is now a very confident side....Bumrah' s horror will be in the Australian mind...so they will collapse in the next match..Shiraj is back so Australia will find it difficult in Adelaide.... Kohli is back in form. ....only be competitive...India will win
Interesting - I thought he might slot down to six if Rohit and Shubman return, but the way he played really suited what India needed at the top of the order. India have a few selection decisions to make with these players returning and the other guys like KL Rahul, Nitish Kumar Reddy and Harshit Rana showing they are up for this series.
Very insightful and good to listen. However discussion on KL Rahul was interesting considering he is much younger than Rohit sharma and technically better suited for tests. Also more than blooding any new/future talent India would be more focused on retaining the BGT with the best eleven.
Thank you! And yes mixed views on KL Rahul from the two of us. We both agree he did a fantastic job in that test, though! I expect Padikkal and Jurel will drop out if Rohit and Gill are both ready for next test.
As an indian i would say india is old Australia now, like when early 2000 Australian team they just not win the game they have dominated it most of the times, and that India is doing from last couple of years across all fomats which i am loving it.... I agree that knowing the mindset of australians no one count out Australian team from further matches because this team knows how to bounce back,i would love to see that, which is the beauty of BGT,i mean we even got out on 36 still win the series in gabba..... I think beating Australia in Australia on perth by 295 runs is just not humilating enough,My prediction will be in next four matches that Australia will lost 1 match by an inning.... 😅😅
This India team doesn’t appear to fear Australia in their home conditions at all, and yes it looks like they’ve been on a mission for years now to be the dominant side in world cricket. I’d say for the most part they’ve got there - now just need to add the WTC title to their collection.
Tell you what KL Rahul is anything but the unsung hero among indian fans. There's so much support for KLR to continue to open with Jaiswal even after the return of Rohit. It may not happen but a large proportion of Indian cricket fans want KLR to continue to open for his playing style in general as an opener and his remarkable innings in India's first double century opening partnership in Australia.
Ridiculous discussion not playing KL in Oval stadium. He will play probably down the order though I still feel that he should open with Jaiswal Rohit down the order.
Full credit to India - awesome effort to bounce back after being bowled out for 150 to dominate pretty much every moment of the rest of the match - Jasprit was amazing, Jaiswal is awesome, but I expected a bit more fight from Australia. Huge pressure on that batting lineup now for the rest of the series. If they can't put a score together in Adelaide it could get really ugly for them.
Yes particularly that top order - Bumrah and Siraj sent a message that it’s going to be hard work for Australia. They’ll need a game plan to counter those new ball spells, and need to come up with it fast!
Has any other team had the wood on Aus for 4 consecutive series - home & away? Would be a catastrophe to go down the 5th time in a row to India. Need the best 11 players on the park to ensure Aus does not go down 2-0 in the pink ball test in Adelaide.
Don’t have the numbers in front of me but I think South Africa in the 2000s had a good record against Australia, and the West Indies of the 80s, but yes this India squad must be right up there.

No still plenty of time for Australia to bounce back, especially if they can manage the game well in that pink ball test to be bowling with a new ball under lights.
I don’t agree with the analysis of the Kohli dropped catch off Marnus. I think the ball was too high up in his hand, and less in his fingers which is necessary to have “complete” control. The fact that he was attempting to prevent the ball from touching the grass is fairly irrelevant to me. I believe if he had true control of the ball he would absolutely have completed the catch and he would’ve had no trouble keeping it from touching the ground. In my experience in playing and watching, very very few catches are dropped when a player has complete control of the ball, regardless of whether they then land on the ground or continue to roll on the ground. Only those who don’t have complete control end up losing all control, unless you’re name is Gibbs.
Yes fair enough - you’re probably correct that it didn’t quite go into his hands perfectly, so he never really had it even though it looked like it was going to stick.
If India go 2-0 up then yes the noise around that Australian team will be very loud. Long time listeners of the show will know we love talking about momentum! 😀
Everyone including you were asserting that Australia's batting is settled and India batting looked doubtful with padikkal even scored centuries in domestic matches and did well in A match just like Mcsweeny, Rahul and Kohli out of form Reddy is a debutant with T20 orientation. Just on two factors India coming with 3 0 drubbing at N NZ hands and Mcsweeny is sure shot to open and blossom on account of his deeds in domestic and A match just like Padikkal. But that is glossed over. How did every thing changed drastically. Please introspect and review your punditry.
Yes a lot of people were predicting an Australian win. I think to defend us slightly we suggested it would be a close series, which it still could be even though that first test would suggest otherwise! On the batting side, our comments about the lineups being settled v disrupted were more about the personnel changes than form. Baldy in particular was very worried about Labuschagne and Smith, and those concerns played out. You’re right though that we didn’t see such a big win coming in this first test - it surprised many people!
A lot of people in the comments disagree with you but we are also big Dhruv Jurel fans so who knows. KL was excellent though so it would be incredibly harsh to leave him out.
@@thetoporderpodcast well first of all I am an Indian and I will definitely want my team to win but his reply to journalists in the press conferences is always weird. He was blaming the batters but Aussie bowlers have also failed to deliver in the third innings (India's 2nd innings).
On this video we’ve got one New Zealander and one Australian, but there’s another Kiwi and two Englishmen on our team as well that you’ll find on other episodes. We couldn’t get the whole crew together for this one but wanted to chat anyway.
KL is more talented than Rohit and Gill, He scored hundred in england and SA as well multiple times, u combine Rohit and Gill they have only 1 hundred in SENA, Yes his average is bit lower side one of the main reason he played 70% matches outside India more as opener, Opening in SENA is most difficult job your success rate is very less, Opener like Warner not have 100 in england, So u can understand how difficult job KL does, From 2021 he have most runs in SENA and Centuries and Fifties in SENA.

If India win again then it's curtains for Australia, cricket is all about momentum isn't it ?
If India go 2-0 up then yes the noise around that Australian team will be very loud. Long time listeners of the show will know we love talking about momentum! 😀
Everyone including you were asserting that Australia's batting is settled and India batting looked doubtful with padikkal even scored centuries in domestic matches and did well in A match just like Mcsweeny, Rahul and Kohli out of form Reddy is a debutant with T20 orientation. Just on two factors India coming with 3 0 drubbing at N
NZ hands and Mcsweeny is sure shot to open and blossom on account of his deeds in domestic and A match just like Padikkal.
@@thetoporderpodcast yeah. Out of you three baldy was more measured and balanced
No way, KL will play instead of Dhruv Jurel
A lot of people in the comments disagree with you but we are also big Dhruv Jurel fans so who knows. KL was excellent though so it would be incredibly harsh to leave him out.
Panic in the Aussies camp. Sledging and Sandpapers are not going to work anymore. Marnus last test Adelaide
Marnus under huge pressure no doubt about it.
Josh Hazelwood is the best bowler in current Australian bolwing lineup but please for god's sake don't send him to post match press conference.
You didn’t like his comments? 😀
@@thetoporderpodcast well first of all I am an Indian and I will definitely want my team to win but his reply to journalists in the press conferences is always weird. He was blaming the batters but Aussie bowlers have also failed to deliver in the third innings (India's 2nd innings).
Stop overreacting they've got what it takes to bounce back.
Yes Australia could definitely win the next test and the series - that was some statement performance from India though!
😂😂😂😂 australia before match Big statemant
Glad to see we tickled your funny bone 😀
Aussies got boomed! 🇮🇳
They sure did - will be really interesting to see how they respond in Adelaide.
What is your nationality guys?
He certainly did an excellent job in that test and the way he played was exactly what the team needed.
Please do podcast in HINDI
We would love to - only catch is we can’t speak the language . . . 😀 Subtitles?
