I’ve gone from two wheels, to one of these. No more anxiety about dropping my bike! Have had to weather the comments - “that’s not a REAL bike!”, “that’s an old lady bike!”, but have had many more, “what a COOL bike!”. Have also been able to take people out for rides, something I never did on two wheels! What a thrill to see my 90 year old mother-in-law, on the back grinning from ear to ear! Im absolutely loving my Spyder!

I've been riding CanAm Spyders since 2o14. Reason I bought one is that I can use my car driving license, so no need to go to "school". Besides, my better half feels safer on the RT than she used to feel sitting on a regular mc.
As with most things, some will hate the thing and some will love it, I belong to the last group.
However, notice while out riding, it's mostly Harley owners that don't raise the hand to wave back as you meet on the road. But that's alright, I hear it's cause they don't dare let go the handlebar due to risk of wobbling ! Just kidding, whatever floats your boat, we're all different. Enjoy the road all

I have a 2013 Can Am RS and my wife has a 2015 Can Am F3. Both bikes look great. They are both black. My bike has the 998cc and my wife has the 1330cc motor in hers. Both bikes are very safe, very fast, and turn heads. I rode mine in the rain for 3 hours and was doing 75 mph most of the way. I didn't hydroplane and it stuck to the road. The downside is the current cost of accessories. Buy a good used one with alot of accessories added. I added the saddlebags and a aftermarket trailer hitch to my 2013. We are very pleased with the bikes.

My wife and I were looking at Can Am's and Polaris Sling shots when visiting my daughter in Florida. We were at a Dealership in Ft Meyers, FL. The Salesman probably around my age "60" told me to be honest, he sold Can Am's to folks and had them returned. He never had a Polaris returned. He did not think I'd like one. Turns out, I just purchased a Mustang Convertible as my wife won't ride on my FJR. As long as I can hold a two wheeled bike up, I'll stick with two wheels.

Much better than a conventional trike. When you jam on the brakes, the weight transitions forward and it gets more stable, not less stable like a conventional trike. You can also see the wide part of your bike, so it's easier to navigate around obstacles. And you can corner like a maniac if you get your body down and lean into it hard.

I have a 2010 limited ,I had my first street bike when I was 16 . Not a lot of women on bikes on the street in 86’ . I’ve owned about 10 different bikes over the years . My can am has like 46 thousand miles on it , I usually just saddle up for big trips , on a nice night I’ll hit up lake shore drive . I rode my bike out to Washington (from Chicago area) rode the 101 down the coast to L.A . While out I caught some slack here and there from other riders (mostly at Sturgis) my favorite thing to say is “yeah but I like to ride my bike to more than to just the bar”. Usually shuts their mouth but if they are really are an ass I’ll usually pop off with “but I don’t own a trailer “ haha . I have yet to find someone who actually didn’t trailer they’re bike . I totally parked my bike on the row in sturgis too because I can 😁 Let the Haters hate and call them out on they’re attempt to bully maybe they won’t do it to the next person. This is the most comfortable, safe bike I’ve ever owned . I can ride 10 hour plus jump back on the next day and do it again excited and not hurting ,I hardly ever ride on a expressway . I just changed my battery the other day which haha can am changed where it’s located in 2013 because not that fun to do on my bike but I think my bike is made of more durable materials than the new design sooooo this is why I havnt traded the old girl in . When I went to the dealer we side by sided them , she won . I’ve yet to hear a can am owner complain about anything

It still takes a while for the display to fire up, but you can start and drive it away if you want before the display kicks in.

No one needs to justify the bike they ride. I say ride the bike that suits the type of riding you do; commuting, open road, touring, weekend warrior whatever. In my case I have two bikes, a Kawasaki Voyager 1700 which is a great cruiser for the open road. I also have a Suzuki Burgman 650 scooter which can handle the open road and the city but doesn't have the cruiser look or feel. I enjoy them both. I'm 65 and fully abled but I realise that at some point in the not too distant future I may have to give up the Kawasaki as it is heavy at nearly 400kgs wet. When that happens I will look at a Spyder as I think all the inbuilt safety and stability features make them superior to the 2 wheels on the back no matter who has made the machine. I've ridden the Spyder RT and it was great experience.

Rented the new F3 Spider for Memorial Day Weekend. It was one fun ass weekend, let me tell you. I have not ridden anything really since 2004 because I almost lost my foot in a bad accident, typical hit by a drunk drive and left for dead, and these thing is just as much fun as a bike, and feels a little safer up to the speed of 55mph. It is fun, easy to ride, dont have to worry about dropping it, switching gears, it is fast as hell, and it has a sweet radio. You just gas in and go.
HOWEVER, after the speed of 55mph and plus, you get a little worried because it literally feels like you are riding a quad on the street. There is no lean, you have to go wide into the turns, so if you have to dip, lean, or and swerve out of the way of something like you can on a regular motorcycle at high speeds, it isn't going to happen. You have to be very careful at high speeds. I did not even bother going on the highway with mine because it does feel that odd, but it was so much fun around town and on the major cross roads were speeds are also 45 and 55 mph. I just did not feel safe taking it on the Jersey Turnpike because that is like the Autoban of New Jersey and you have to do 75 just to keep up.

I bet that Can am would be comfortable on long trips. I rode a Goldwing for a long time and it took the life out of me on long trips because it weighed 750 lbs. It's like riding a water buffalo. You can't relax on a heavy motorcycle. All it takes is one mistake and you go down on the asphalt and it's not like a little light weight dirt bike those big bikes go down hard. With with Harley design you're actually sitting behind the engine it has a lower center of gravity. I kind of like the comfort of driving my truck on long trips. Nice to have a drink holder to hold the coffee and cruise and relax and turn on the air-conditioning and CD player and all that happy stuff.

I rode motorcycles on the street for 45 years, but am now disabled, and I no longer believe I can safely handle a large motorcycle, especially in town and parking lots. I didn't care for the Spyder, and instead chose the H-D Tri-Glide. On the open road it feels just like riding a motorcycle, you still shift it, the only time you notice the difference is in curves and corners, when it tries to lean the wrong way. For those who can no longer ride, a convertible car is also an option, and it doesn't have to cost $100K. I absolutely love the Mazda Miata, with a manual transmission, unfortunately it's just a bit cramped for me (I weigh 240
pounds) I can see myself riding the Harley for the rest of my life, until I wind up in a nursing home.

Just be careful when your going to pass the car in front of you,you are in the middle of the vehicle, that left wheel sticks out a fair bit more to the left then say a car would,so when you try to see if someone is coming in the opposite lane that wheel is on the other side of the center line...I am surprised that there’s not much talk about this, there’s a fair amount of collisions that happens that way.

Not sure what I'll do when I'm no longer able to ride a bike - 73 now and 2 of my 3 bikes have Handicap tags (the 3rd has Antique tags), but I don't think that the Spyder will be my solution. One of the reason that there's so many different vehicles out there is that there are so many different people. Ride what makes you smile.

After 40+ years of riding two wheelers, they were just different enough to keep me from warming up to them. Maybe with more experience I'd feel better about them but I'm certainly not willing to fork over the cash to find out. Bottom line is, it confirmed an attitude I've had for a very long time. I'm just not keen on vehicles with an odd number of wheels. Mind you, that's not a dig against any trike. I've known a lot of folks that ride them and love them and I'm totally cool with that. They're just not for me.

I have ridden both types, front/rear styles. I found rear wheel trikes on rough terrain riding slow the handlebars want to move back forth rapidly. A function of inertia on the front wheel being tilted back and forth. This disappears at over 25 kph. A non issue on the spyder . Got my first spyder in 13, had it for a month, back to a Yamaha 950 then a 1300 Yamaha then my present spyder a 2016. think that is the way to go for a 75 yr old. I like the wind, the openness. and even the rain.

BRP did a lot of things right but also did a few bad things like the traction control and most of the other electronics. it's extremely difficult to roll a reverse trike as it is to roll a car or truck. reliability really suffers due to electronic failures. I think much of the CanAm was designed by lawyers not engineers. However conceptually they nailed it, great for young sport minded individuals who want to get that sports car feel but still ride a motorcycle. Great for back roads and adventure riding. Unfortunately convention trikes have tainted the idea of a sport trike where it's supposedly designed for those older guys with bad knees etc. While this is part of the target market for sure women and again young minded sport riders are in BRP's sights. Automatic transmission is 80 years behind cars and it's about time we moved into the 1950's. It is very much like a snowmobile and if you have ever ridden snowmobiles they are a blast and fun for all ages.

  • @endeavortrikes

Reverse trikes are much more sporty riding than a standard backwards trike. It's not a compromise rather and extension of motorcycling as reverse trikes will go places no biker will go - gravel, dirt and everything in between. This is the future for motorcycling. Now if they just dump all the electronic lawyer controls. I build custom reverse trikes and will agree the people who struggle riding one are the lifelong bikers as they expect leaning and have problems figuring out how to ride. Anyone who has ridden snowmobiles or ATV's will catch on right away and probably never go back on two wheels as that is a step down from this type of machine. CanAm has the right idea and will continue to prosper.

The lean and getting your knee down whilst cornering was the best part of riding bikes for me (unfortunately I had an accident and broke 5 vertebrae and was paralysed). I think something like this could get me back on the road instead of a car because we all know unless you have a 100k supercar then cars are boring as fuck compared to bikes.

I have one a 2015 RT-S. Best thing ever. I have issues with my hip and trying hold up a 900lb bike is not a good idea. I love my spyder. No holding the bike up at stops. No need to hold the clutch handle in. Only have to shift up with the push of a button and it downshifts itself. Only one pedal to work all the brakes. When I get stuck in the traffic jams of Seattle it is so nice to be able to relax and not worry about clutches burning up or falling over. You still have to lean in the turns but it is more like riding a ATV quad. They also have a kit to move the brakes to the handlebars also which would be perfect for you.

Sir Tristen I know your point is salient but if youre saying he got hurt once so should get out of it before it happens again or worse.... well that defies the human spirit.
Me I had 7 bikes before age 25 went down a couple times with a few painful injuries that healed. By the last one (yammie fj1100 when they were current) I wanted to race every day but was pretty skilled. A friend with the same bike got a head on with a car both doing 70mph. Was in the hospital for a year with dozens of surgeries. After visiting him I never started my bike again. Did buy a corvette and didnt slow down.
      Much.

I bought three. two of the RST SEM 5 speed in 2010. They are great bikes to ride and safe. The problem is the customer service. If anything goes wrong or blows off the bike CanAm will blame you. BRP/CanAm knew there was a problem because they created new grommets for the plastic ($120) CanAm cover on the left side of the bike that kept blowing off. Guess What? Instead of CanAm giving 2010 owners the grommets they charged you. My Covers blew off a total of three times so I ended up creating a Velcro hold that you could not see without close inspection. CanAm continued to blame us saying that we must've changed the oil and not replaced the cover correctly. Luckily we bought our bikes at Central Florida Power Sports whose customer service is absolutely outstanding. The 2010 - 2013 Spyders also were designed with the hot engine air blowing directly onto the rider. Imagine sitting at a red light in July in Florida...your sooo happy when that light turns green! CanAm cam out with some cowling that redirected the hot air off the rider. Nope no discount. I spent over $120,000 on the three bikes and do you think the French Canadians cared, NOPE!!! Their greedy POS's that want your money but could care less about you. The Gas tank held 4 gallons and the heavy bike only got 25 miles to the gallon, I worked in Tampa, 52 miles from home. Since then CanAm has added a sixth gear and made the tank bigger (6 gals). My wife got the premier edition #390 since we were the first in Florida to order one. Oh, you'll also need a trickle charger since the battery goes dead if the bike sits longer than 3 days without riding it. Can't wait until a customer friendly bike mfg comes out with something comparable to the spyder. I was hoping Honda would come out with a similar concept with storage space etc. but everyone else keeps thinking inside the box.If Honda just copied CanAms design but took out all the problems that the spyders have they'd have a number one selling two wheels up front awesome motorcycle! If you are going to buy a Spyder I warn you BUYER BEWARE! Also, make sure whoever is telling you that the Spyder and CanAM company is great isn't one of the people that CanAm gives free bikes to to advertise how great they are and form clubs. CanAm Customer Service SUCKS! write Honda and ask them to create a bike similar to the spyder, i.e. the Honda WASP. It'll be less expensive and you'll get accompany that stands behind their product.I GOT RID OF ALL MY CANAM/BRP PRODUCTS AND WILL NEVER NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER PRODUCT MADE BY CANAM/BRP AGAIN.

Powered by a small block Chevy. I was talking with the owner of it & of course I had to ask how fast is answer was classic he didn't know because he wasn't about to find out. He admitted that he lost his nerve at around 120 mph. I said I didn't blame him, he said that at 120 it was pulling so hard that around 100 was when he decided that it was going to go so fast he really didn't want to be on it. The acceleration must have taken ones breath away even stock with the right gears it probably topped 200. To fast for the freeways even then when they were in good shape
