    21:12 this is why punctuation matters. If you apply commas you get something much more legible: "Am I, the white car, or the car in front, the black one, in (should be at, but whatever) fault? We were battling for a podium"

  • @grantharriman284
    @grantharriman284 10 месяцев назад +7

    21:04 someone buy this man a comma. I believe the intended phrasing would be "Am I, the white car, or the car in front, the black one, in fault? We were battling for a podium." Both phrases indicating color are parenthetical and can be completely ignored without changing the meaning, which would help immensely.

    Last guy in the pink car here. Great feedback I appreciate it!
    I will say you were right about it being low split mx5 series. The reason at the time I wasn’t full throttle was due to it being t1 of the race and I was being cautious about potential crashes and figured I’d try to lag behind a little. The situation makes more sense to me now though. I’ll be more careful! Thanks Jimmer!

      Understandable. T1 is always always scary regardless of rank.

    • @nathanstretch
      @nathanstretch Год назад +8

      A better way to be cautious into T1 is to go full throttle, then brake slightly earlier than you think you need to, and if there's someone right behind you, not quite as hard as you normally would initially. By braking early, you avoid being surprised by someone ahead of you. And by rolling onto the brakes rather than going full brakes immediately, you give the person behind time to react if they were sleeping. These are both slight adjustments though. If you're braking so early that cars are flying by you, it's actually more dangerous rather than less.

    Hero car making the pass puts their front left wheel on the curb. This allows the rear of the car to rotate with less effort, which results in him spinning out a bit. I don't think this was netcode, I think that the passing car made a mistake at the apex and oversteered into the blue car.

    couple things you didn't touch on i thought were interesting:
    4:00 - this one's really unfortunate, *both* cars get launched and destabilised by the awful sausage kerbs here, and while the hellmann's car does make a mistake, they do leave room and the contact is initiated after the patterned car takes a perfectly normal line into plenty of space, dips onto the kerb slightly and gets launched. really hard to find fault here
    15:39 - you mention earlier in the video that the best thing to do sometimes is just to concentrate on your own race, and this is a good example. three wide into ascari, very scary, so the multi-coloured 90s reebok car backs out, doesn't try to follow yellow stripe car through, watches three cars get wiped out in front, takes all three places with no damage. racing IQ!

    You briefly mentioned this, and I think the problem a lot of people have in sim racing is they commit so hard at every single thing. Yes there are times when you have no other options, but 90% of the time. You have time to slow down, and let what is happening in front of you happen, and carry on. You don’t HAVE to make the overtake, you don’t HAVE to defend every possible overtake coming your way. Racing is more about survivability than it is outright pace. Especially in endurance racing.

    Hey Jimmer, some food for thought here: In the clip at 15:40 its good to keep in mind that a marginal amount of iRacing players don't possess the luxury of a triple monitor/ high fov setup. And considering that iRacing does not natively support any radar to aid in surrounding awareness, its basically all up to feel and experience for single monitor sim racers.

  • @F1jones
    @F1jones Год назад

    Regarding the GTP re-entry issue, I'd put that on the passing car. While not ideal from the re-entering car, he held his line and clearly showed awareness of the car around him, while the other almost pretended he wasn't there. It reminds me of something Michael Schumacher talked about in an interview. The setup was suggesting his reflexes weren't exactly superhuman with a practical test of trying to catch a dropped pencil. He couldn't do it and said that wasn't where his skill was focused; it was about at any given moment, narrowing down the possible variables of the situation in order to anticipate the car's behavior. "Anticipate" was his keyword. While he was talking about car behavior, it also applies to the other cars around you. You need to know that the slow car ahead is either going to stay slow on the racing line, or move across it. The lead car never telegraphed that he was going to move across, so you can only anticipate that you need to go off on the dirty line, in a corner where balance is already difficult with a lot of load on the front. As Jimmy says, no matter what the circumstance, you have to bring the car home and things will get in the way until that happens.
    To that end, I used to watch IMSA GTP racing in the 80s when you had basically Group C prototypes racing against sub 2 liter GTU saloons like first gen RX-7s and 911s with enormous power to weight and speed differentials between classes under the best of conditions; the 962s didn't just spin off or run up the back every time they passed one, which happened every few corners. They anticipated the slower cars and played the long game. So as for the video, IMO it's totally on the trailing car if you have 2-4 seconds to anticipate where the car ahead will be, a lifetime in cars at that speed.

    I would say about the F3 cars at Bathurst T1 (21:12) that it was a pretty ambitious send and they went so tight to the inside that they looked pretty unlikely to make the corner without issue anyway, unless they were to almost stop. Especially if the CPU car is just doing the racing line regardless.

      His nose is pointed directly at the curb of the exit of the chicane. He is trailing while side by side and pointed at the racing line when contact is made. He’s clearly on a line that doesn’t acknowledge the car next to him after taking too much of the curb and then slammed on the brakes to try to avoid contact.
      100% trailing car is at fault.
      And Jimmy literally says “the overtaking car is responsible for it being done correctly” in the next clip 😂

    Gonna say Jimmy ya missed the fact at 20:41 that every car in this lobby had high ping, which likely means it's on the guy that got crashed who has the bad net connection. So while it didn't look like it was his fault, it was totally his fault. No one else saw his car in the same position as he thought he was.

      Is this how the ping works in these games? The ping should usually be displayed from the individual player towards the server / host. So even if you have an awful ping, you should see that the ping of the others is actually good.

      You can't always assume everyone takes every line at full speed, like the Porsche for example took a really awkward line into T1 because the Lambo on the outside blocked the proper racing line. The Merc comes in from the outside and obviously carries much more speed but in Lap 1 Turn 1 Monza you have to expect that there's also someone on the inside who has to be slower than you

    14:35 Incident at Daytona RC, guys like this think that because the pass they were attempting was clear and that they were ahead a tiny bit of momentum that YOU knew their intention and should have to just give them the position.
    The truth= no shit you were trying to make a move that you had no real chance of making atm. Which is why I the leading car made sure to hold my line and allow you to 1. Back out of it and keep trying to make fair clean good passes later down the road, 2. Stay in it and end up wrecking yourself and looking stupid when the video get posted for the world to see.

    that last crash was on the pink car, in my opinion, they were quite obvious fixated on the driving line, lifting as the arrows became lighter green and turned precisely where the line was. The racing line was suggesting to keep braking where others had stopped, which caused the crash because the pink car was too slow for too long.

    @19:51 pause and look in the lower left corner where the standinds widget is. between the name and the brand logo there is a ping meter. For Blood_OrchidEvo it is yellow, which is already not really good, but may be still somewhat ok. For all others it is plain red.
    If you have a red ping meter and see almost every other one also red, you have a very bad connection to that server.
    Please leave it as soon as possible, else you are going to ruin many races.

    Hi ... I was born into a racing family. My dad and uncles raced short track ovals in the Carolinas. I started racing in my late teens. First advice my dad gave me was the 'risk vs reward' speech. After years of 'on the track learning' (sometimes learning the hard way), I believe this was the best advice I received. I agree with you to take whatever is given to you early in the race ... just don't be an idiot about it (especially if you have to repair your own ca( ;-[ ).

    5:17 the angle the guy takes when he pit maneuvers the Hellmann's driver isn't aimed at the corner when he makes contact either. Look at that angle; he would cut that entire corner. He would be on the inside of the blue kerb. That's a penalty.

    Sorry Jimmy, that rejoin at spoon corner was perfectly fine. He had plenty of room to rejoin, gave all the space in the world and the approaching car had seen it for miles, adjusted his line and unfortunately made his own mistake!
    I would understand if the slower driver had a moment and caused the accident but clearly it was just an error and the steering input shows that.
    Probably could've made an argument for a couple of others but, you still had a lot of good points, and your race knowledge is alot more upto date than mine!

    18:20 it looks to me that the black car locks up the rear as they try to turn. They can't decelerate fast enough to take the line that they need to. It's not helped by the blue car acting like the black car doesn't exist. It's on both of them for me.

  • @Azmodon
    @Azmodon Год назад

    4:23 the left guy was on the racing line, and (while possibly not intentional due to speed,) gave space for the corner to the right guy. Right guy takes the curb, and the racing line from the car ahead of him, giving no space to the lead vehicle (has to hit the brakes while going to the left of the line due to the curb strike). Had right guy not let off the brakes for a second, he would've been able to make the corner while staying 3/4 back and not drifting left. When contact is made, the right car is not pointed at the exit of the corner, he's aimed to the left of the final blue exit curb.
    22:56 - notice that the white mclaren puts his brakes on after the left... he's slowing down, in a straight line, when he should be on the gas... he essentially brake checked the ferrari... While he should've expected the lead driver to randomly put his brakes on like the AI does if you pull up right behind them, one would hope that this isn't behaviour reflected by actual people.

    24:21 Not sure I agree with that ruling: Sure, he had plenty of room, but ultimately, that wasn't what took them out, given he seemed to be straightening out near the end, but the guy on the right twitched his car to the left and that was the end of it.

    Gold car rejoining and the blue car spinning off on his own was 100% blues fault. He could see the gold car, it wasn't going to stop, drive off circuit or teleport to the pits before he had to pass it. So at that point it is no different to a multi class field overtake, or any slow car and his responsibility to do safely. No point complaining about his re-join as he isn't just going to vanish at this point.
