Online I am not going to spend effort shouting against them, I just mute and/or find a new game, so you never hear my support, but know it is there.
2 If you have announced that you are trans, then everyone who doesn't care are not very likely to say anything. Those who do care are the ones who will make themselves heard, and those are also the bigots, so you have selected for bigots.

@@postrachsmietnikow actually, you can change the language in your game! I thought it was impossible, but I really wished for it, so I looked it up and it's actually reallly easy. In your ea folder in your file explorer, the game will then generate a new folder with the name of the game in whatever language you seletcted. If you have any mods or cc, that you want in your game, you'll have to move those from your old folder into your new one, or, if you're downloading new stuff, you have to move them into your new folder as well. Personally, I wasn't able to delete the folder of my language, but that might just be a me-problem. Not for one second since starting to watch this channel did I believe anyone apart of her community is hateful, but having her come out and openly tell transphobes off was so incredibly to hear. So thank you for that girl. You are so wonderful Kayla, I truly hope you get everything you desire in life.
Secondly, The Sims is quite literally my favorite game series of all time. And I cannot express how much joy it gives me that the developers are constantly taking steps to be more and more inclusive. Not just for the LGBQTIA+ community, but for literally everyone. They don’t care what story you want to tell or who you want to create. As long as you’re having a good time. And buying their games 😉 No but seriously, seeing this melts my heart. It's not normalizing it by having to bring it up every time though. Normalizing something means it's not brought up at all it just exists. You don't always bring up "Oh look at that cis straight guy." because that's just normalized. Having her sim, Blake, and having to constantly say "They use they/them pronouns." and keep bringing it up isn't normalizing. Normalizing something is like Loud House (a cartoon but a good example) where the best friend is black and then has 2 fathers.. one black and one white. It is NEVER brought up it's just something that exists. That's an example of normalizing something.

Being really honest, English speakers are SO lucky for having such a “welcoming” language for neopronouns and even more lucky for already having “they/them”. I’m a Portuguese native speaker and EVERYTHING in Portuguese is gendered. We’re still trying to “create” a more neutral language to include everyone but is SO HARD. We need to change and adapt so much and most people just reject any neopronoun because it honestly just sounds extremely unnatural to them.
Just a quick example, verbs and adjectives are gendered. In English you would say “I’m tired” or “I’m a teacher” (two things that I actually am) and is already gender neutral. In Portuguese, “I’m tired” is “Estou cansadA” (feminine) OR “Estou cansadO” (masculine). Gender neutral could be (for example) “Estou cansadE” which actually didn’t really officially exists in our language. That’s why I understand how hard must be for the team to figure out how to update the game in all the other languages, is a unbelievable huge amount of work and I cannot thank them enough for trying and engaging on this, it means SO FUCKING MUCH

    • @PatsuanTV
      @PatsuanTV 2 года назад +58

Turkish have the exact reversed situation: We have so few words to describe one's gender and only gender-neutral pronouns. For most Turkish speakers, the pronouns don't make much sense to think about when they're talking in English, so they're not aware of how big a change it's in the game and how important it is for the other language users. Since we're playing TS4 in English, hopefully, this would make them think a bit more about the importance of pronouns. + This is, of course, for the small portion of the society that's open to learning about it (since most of them are loser transphobes), but I believe it's still a very good step towards the future of the whole gaming industry.

also the portuguese problem: ive had spanish classes and there i noticed that BUT also there is another problem which there is in german too.
When multiple male and female and diverse people are talked about in one big group its standard to use the male form of the word (for example Lehrer means a male teacher AND many male teachers AND many teachers of any gender while Lehrerin means a female teacher AND many female teachers)
BUT now people are searching for a middle way (like Lehrer*innen and you speak it with a pause for the *) so thats annoying to use as its for some words so much longer and i wish we just a gender neutral form
(also because there isnt a form EVER for nonbinary use, just male + female)
i just want anything easy, even like Lehri which sounds kinda cute and a little bit childish but is still better than anything that gets officially approved rn

Even for people who don’t identify as they/them, this opens up doors of opportunity for way more, new characters to be created. Like I’ve tried to create a character that was non-binary and was male at birth, but liked wearing feminine clothes and it just didn’t turn out as nice as I’d like and it kept misgendering the character. Good on them for giving us more options. If you’re against this, I don’t know why. You shouldn’t be against having more options in a game that’s built upon customization. And if you don’t ever want characters who are nonbinary or trans, etc. you shouldn’t use those options. Just don’t. It isn’t that hard to ignore it and move on. Clicking what is appropriate for your character shouldn’t be a huge deal at all.

I respect their pronouns and wish they have a happy life. But I don't agree that gender is a socialized construct and that there are no difference between men and women and that anyone who disagrees is a "loser transphobe," she is being way too harsh to people who may have a difference in opinion.

I may be able to answer that (please don't ban me, they asked), I just need to know one thing first: What in your mind is the difference between a "he" and a "she"? What does a "he" have that a "she" cannot have and vice versa? If there is no such thing why not just have "they" for everyone?
There is a reason there is a randomize button: to remove choices, because having to select a million different things before you can start playing isn't appealing to everyone. Also, if this is only for English they could have solved it so easily with just "they", but they spent all this development time that they can now not spend on other things.

While I don't always understand everyone, I always make an effort to be respectful, try my best to educate myself, and when it comes to gender, I definitely make an effect to respect what people would like to be called, because I think, "how would I feel if there were no she/her and everyone would just call me him" I wouldn't feel accepted, and I would feel like I'm not part of this world, and that would be hurtful, and depressing. Yeah, that's what was my first thought. I'm a game translator into Russian, and currently even "they" pronounce is a big headache for translators, as you often don't know if it is about one or several people (in any smaller than AAA games you can have a great lack of context, and sometimes even AAA don't give all the needed info). And Russian doesn't have gender-neutral pronounces, and, as Spanish, have ALL words gender-tagged, therefore, if sometimes game designers didn't think of a character's gender and used "they", and then used some gendered pronounce later, it could make great mess. We have more neutral one, which is close to "it", but you just don't say it for people, it is as offensive as it is in English (it is about things, not people, and not all the things, but the ones that are "middle gender"). And to fit it as tags with such a changable language as Russian is pretty hard even with his/her only.
Yet, I see, they are doing it right, and it's very good. I would say The Sims always had pretty good translation, at least into Russian, and it shows translators have a lot of info about game context, which is quite rare in the industry. Even though custom pronounce are not relatable to me, I'm respectful for such attention to the translation process.

Hi! I’m a teacher and I’m older. I’ve lived most my life with pronouns being strictly she/her and he/him. I didn’t know about more pronouns until recently (say the last 5 or so years) and I’m starting to get students in my school with pronouns I was not familiar with. The sims coming out with this is going to be a terrific educational experience for me! Just this video has taught me so much (ze pronouns is new to me). Playing the sims will help me understand this more and connect better with my students.

(I’m not an English speaker, if i said something wrong, I’m sorry) I think what most of the simmers who complains that “ea doesn’t care” (aside for the lack os representation in media and general) or that they’re taking so long doesn’t understand is: the sims is played in lots of countries that doesn’t speak English, i’m brazilian and here we don’t have an official neutral pronoun, we use “ele” (for he) and “ela” (for her), some of us uses “elu” for them/they, but it’s not official, and I think other countries use some variants too. The point is, it’s hard to think how can they translate every pronouns in a right and respectful way to all of the countries. For example: i think that some people use ze/zie, but if u put your sim to the gallery, how can they translate ze/zir if we don’t even have pronouns to represent someone that uses they/them? It’s a hard thing, and I’m really interested to see all of these, but we have to be pacients, and remember that the sims is not an English game only.

I'm so glad you are so supportive about this update. I just came from a Reddit post that was just full of microagressions, mostly "great for people that care. I don't care. Doesn't affect me. Would rather have them work on other things personally".
Some people can't see outside the scope of how things personally affect them. Like imagine if people said this in response to the skin tones update or because they let you choose genders.
Sims is about SIMulating real life and everyone should be able to recreate themselves or their friends in the game!
Also, the fact that minorites can no longer see themselves represented in ANY form of media without people crying "PANDERING!" is just so so sad. It's a free update... Mostly for the people who already own the game who gave been asking for the ability for years. Stop trying to devalue or invalidate the representation that is important to some people.
When I grew up, there was no representation and I felt alone... Like something was wrong with me. That I couldn't tell anyone. If I saw someone like me on TV, I would have felt so much better. People don't understand how important these things are.

Im really glad they are doing this, I feel like most people don't understand how ambitious this project is. I am half Polish, half Lithuanian and both those languages are unfortunately very gender-oriented. Even in real-life it is so hard to talk to a person without ,,assuming" their pronouns. I work as a cashier in a clothing store and it's a constant fear of mine that I mispronounce someone... I really don't want to hurt anyone's feeling but it's so hard not to use any gender-oriented words in even the most basic sentences. I truly believe that both Lithuanian and (especially) Polish languages need to undergo some kind of a language ,,revolution" as unfortunately they are broken at their core which makes them extremely not inclusive. I am saying this only to make it easier for English speakers to understand how complicated and ambitious this whole EA's project is. Unfortunately, not every language is so easily converted to being more inclusive as English.

I went to the comments to mock any transphobes who showed up.

I just wanted to underline to the fact, how confident Kayla invited all the noninclusive people to leave. A lot of respect to say all of this so firmly. RUclipsrs often tend to be so politically correct that they forget their values. Also - this update is a big step to make the world a better place!

Its so nice that the entire sims community is so supportive of the LGBTQIA+ community. Even EA them selfs recognize, and actively supports them. Maybe it just the fact that people are getting smarter now, and recognizing that hating on this type of stuff it pointless. Either way, nice to see the support

@@RandomCronch i think they just meant that the companies only do it for money. Like they use this for people like you or others who are lgbtqia or allies to get their attention and use your money to buy the game and they recieve it ofc and they dont actually care about lgbtqia...... they just want your money basically

As a trans-nonbinary person, thank you SO much for being one of the (unfortunately) few youtubers who actively and loudly supports trans people.

I'm very excited for this update! As an LGBTQ person I've always appreciated how inclusive the Sims is. When I realized I'm bisexual, I had a lot of internalized biphobia and the Sims honestly helped me work through it. I've also been questioning my own gender identity and experimenting with pronouns, and I don't really have much support irl. So having a game that lets me play with these options is definitely nice.
Also, thank you for standing up for the LGBTQ community! I've seen a lot of hate for the pronouns update, so it's good to be reminded that the Sims community is inclusive.

As a genderfluid: her "please leave" to the transphobe-losers really made me feel happy! Kayla is such a good person, all around!
    Ty for your support!!!

first 3 minutes of explaining was so well done Kayla, especially how they/them is used as a singular subject too!

They/them has always been used for singular, people just don’t realise and it’s stupid.
