Within the last month, I was able to pick up a feel of these reels (in working condition). I plan on doing the same maintenance. Thanks for showing us how it is done.
*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
Sir, Major Respect for such fine work and teaching others, However you like many others have long sense forgotten how to clean and adjust the Bail line feed needle and check it for wear.
Still have my pristine 301/401’s and 309/409’s in the original crimson and black plastic boxes with the special yellow plastic display inserts for the 309/409 in the box. Spare spools in all the boxes.

I know I need to get out my old Mitchell 300 reel and do the same thing I'm sure I got the same old grease in it that I put in there years ago maybe even back in the sixties when I probably use what grease I had left over from packing the wheel bearings on my old 57 Ford! Lol! I get some good light grease that I use now and some good Super Lube oil so I need to get it out clean it up and make her run smooth again thanks for your video enjoyed watching it and listen to the music take care!
Thanks for this video - my dad had a vintage Garcia Mitchell 300 - not sure what age - my brother now has it. Recently went to an estate sale and found 2 reels - through the serial number I deduced one was manufactured in 1962 and the other 1974. The 1962 came with the original box and instructions!! Looking forward to servicing these reels and using to bring back fond memories!!
Great video. A friend just gave me a Mitchell Garcia 300, 302 salt water, and a CAP? All three are black and have a white cloth type line on them. They look very near new and never fished. I will following your instructions, and what good are they if I do not fish with them?!
I have my original early '60s 300 I inherited from my grandfather. Do you have the reference to be sure that I have to be sure that I have assembled it correctly by placing the pieces in the correct order
I'm struggling to get the bail to work right on my 300, it will turn to release but won't flip back to retrieve? Any suggestions? My step-father gave me this rod and reel combo - it was his, I've had this since 1965, he had it for years before he gave it to me.
My name is Joaquim I have a reel Vintage Mitchell 300 Pro Edition Aniversary, but i 've lost it's handle. Please, could you tell me where cand i found one? I've searched in many sites but i can't find it. Many thanks, Joaquim Ferreira O'Porto, Portugal
Hello friend, I want to congratulate you for your video about the fishing machine. I have had the same machine since 1968. I got it as a gift from my uncle, so now I want to ask you something, you must know more about the fishing machine. How many meters of thread does it collect on the reel, if it is of the following thicknesses of fishing line, for example: from 0.18 mm., 0.20 mm., and 0.23 mm. If you know, I will ask you for an answer, if not, then I will ask one of your fans for this question. You can also point me to a website, where I can read about this question of mine. GREETING
Hello stanar. The line capacity of a regular mitchell 300 spool is 320 meters of 0,24mm. They also sold shallow spare spools for coarse fishing (match fishing) primary on the british market. The capacity of these spools is 100 meters of 0,20mm. Finally: there were also reducer rings available that was pushed on the spools.
Proof that if you take care of something it will last. Doing mine next. I have two given to me. Sad one is all metal chunks inside. Someone probably fought a few Muskies or it was just a absolute work horse
Hello, This is an old video but maybe you can help. I bought one of these and there's quite a bit of corrosion on the handle and the bail wire. Any suggestions on how to clean that up? Also, is using mineral spirit as solvent recommended?
The bail wire is a bit difficult to maintain. I use reel cleaner or camp gas. Disassemble, clean and reassemble are always good result. Thanks for watching!
I must have put it back to get her wrong then as it springs back manually however, does not flick back when cranked. Also I have Lost the cone shaped piece at the top of the spool shaft rod which keeps the spool on, can I get a new one?
@@aiden7406 Sounds like you replaced the baffle plate upside down. The baffle plate is the silver plate inside of the bell housing that trips the bail release arm.
Right handed fishermen hold the rod in the right hand, and turn the reel with the left. The reel in the demo is a right handed reel. The 301 is for lefty's and is harder to find. I have both.
Was looking at this video , when i use to trout fish was my ffavorite reel , that and a sheakespear push button , stupid me i gve it to some one i work with at the time her son was young and i wanted to have the experience of fishing so i gave him a brand new reel and rod #00 wow was i stupid cant find them any more

Anyone know how to fix the bail on a Mitchell 301S or where I find another bail and springs?
I don't think I heard you talk about the half dozen little shims or mention where they go! Other wise I enjoyed the production.

What's the liquid in bottle?
Coleman camp fuel. flammable, be careful.
Is the bail meant to close when you turn the handle? I am 15 and have serviced my reel
Yes, it is. But you can do manually at 6:00. Thanks for watching!
