Bringing tears to my eyes. In 2008, I was undergoing radiation therapy for cancer, and it always made me anxious. I hadn’t heard this song in years, and my brother in law recorded this CD for me, along with scads of other CDs to help me through that ordeal. He passed away in 2018 of a ravaging cancer. Hearing this reminds me of his kindness
most people who died from long usage of drugs didn't have any frens to stop them and show them golden brown can be not drugs. Never a frown with someone there for you
I was a junky for years. Been clean almost five- all I have is memories from the haze. Songs like this take me back. I feel it there just under what's real, dancing up the veins of an arm that I don't have, yet sense none the less. Songs like this is all I have left of who I used to be.
….Another song that makes my heart ache for my youth, i'm just a oldiie now with more years behind me than left in front of me, wipes tear away and sighs…
I often feel the same way. However, there is and old proverb: " Never regret growing old because many are denied the privilege." Just do what I do, put the headphones on, pop in all your favs from your younger days and sit back and enjoy the ride. Music truly is a time machine. 🙂
Ive been of the gear for 16 years bar a few relapses but not for a long time but every now and again im drawn to this song and it takes my mind to days gone bye and i think of the dead friends and the lost souls still in the grip.Somehow the demon has died and i dont even think of golden brown in my day to day life and for that im eternally great full.Rest in peace to all the crazy diamonds that didnt make it.
Indeed David Watt. Similar life to you it seems, few relapses also. But this song kinda reminds me that in all negatives, there can be positives. I will never say to do brown but all drugs are good for a reason, otherwise they would not be so addictive. Plus it's usually lack of drugs that cause the issues, if that makes any sense! Seen too many die from it also but this song reminds that we did have some good times before those crazy diamonds left us.
Heh. I've been off the horse for ~22yrs. I never associated this tune with it. I guess it was a matter of timing as this came out before I started and didn't really hear it again until recently. Stay clean: choose life. etc.
Never touched gear, but I have a dear friend who spent a lot of time in jail because of it. No coincidence that his longest time out was when he was off it. He's back in jail now, but hopefully he comes back home clean, with a new look on life.
Never a true word spoken ,my mam used to bellow up the stairs and bang on the kitchen ceiling with her sweeping brush to make me turn my music down. R.I P to our mothers, great memories. 😀

My opinion is as valid as anyone else's. It is that this piece of music is the most singular, transformative, odd, trickster laden, beautiful, impossible to cover properly, sad, burning hearted, overall TRUE piece of music committed to record.
Gorden brown, are you kidding matey, gorden brown, texture like sun. i don't feckin' think so. Rolling Stones brown sugar..Heroin/brown helllo.maybe gorden brown wanted brown sugar in his tea you idiot
Everytime I listen to Golden Brown, I think about two things: First: waltzing to it with Elsa on our prom till we dropped on the dancefloor (went way too fast). Second: doesn't this scotch have a beautiful colour?

A poignant song because it came out at the time Heroin was ravaging the community I lived in the North West UK. Watching lads I went to school with end up on Heroin and how they deteriorated and eventually OD'd .Sad

Maybe I feel guilty about loving a song about drugs but it's so beautiful.
Its about heroin and also for a girl...Heard it from Hugh Cornwell in an interview...One way or another, this song is a really gem....
My favourite stranglers song

I know.
I was thinking, it's just that I'm too old and I don't understand, but I don't hear any creative nuance, coupled with a great tune anymore.
This and Lighter Shade of Pale. Nothing else.
