    So glad I watched this! And I remember reading The Sign of the Beaver as a kid- it left an impact. And I LOVED Liberty's kids as a child. Can't wait until my kids are old enough to watch it.

      Thank you so saying that. It's so hard to narrow down all the great history options. I could talk about history for a long time. How old are your kids?

      @@FamilyStyleLearning 6 and almost 4. We have read some picture books about historical figures and events, but I think most other things would be over their heads. They do love maps, so we find things on maps for fun. I am excited to dive into history with them when they are ready, I love history.

    When do you recommend starting history? I have kindergartner. Also can you recommend a starting point?
    Thank you

    • @FamilyStyleLearning
      @FamilyStyleLearning  2 года назад +1

      Thanks for asking! I believe education starts when a child is born 😊 When you go to the library get picture books from around the world, check out the "I am..." book series from Brad Meltzer about famous people in history. For yourself check out "Give your child the World." Select shows that not only entertain but educate. Surround them with the beauty of learning. It's never too early, just be gentle. You don't have to say it's school, it's just reading together.
      Not sure what you mean by the second question. A starting point for the school year?

    • @JMU2512
      @JMU2512 2 года назад

      I believe I was asking at what grade would you recommend starting an official history curriculum?

    • @FamilyStyleLearning
      @FamilyStyleLearning  2 года назад +1

      @@JMU2512 You could check with your state to see if there are any requirements. Otherwise I think the answer might be different for everyone. As you saw we have used the Gather Round curriculum even for kindergarten and I would recommend starting there with those continent units. Have you seen my other video about History Curriculum for K-3? You may find it helpful.

    In a more recent video of yours I just watched, you mentioned trusting another series more than the Who HQ books. Could you explain why you don’t trust them as much? I have no experience with them.

    • @FamilyStyleLearning
      @FamilyStyleLearning  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, thanks for asking. I do like the Who HQ books but I'm very aware that they come from a secular perspective. I don't expect them to share any Biblical truths and I am on guard about how they will approach topics. The Who, What, Why series by Danika Cooley is a Christian perspective on Christian history.
      I hope that helps.

    ... christianity reaching the Vikings was a horrible outcome for the Vikings, and every other culture they came across.

    • @FamilyStyleLearning
      @FamilyStyleLearning  2 года назад

      I'm sorry you feel that way. Vikings were know as a very violent people group who only cared about their own gain. Those who follow Jesus believe in loving and serving one another, not only in our group but throughout the world. You must have had a very negative experience with someone who called themselves a Christian or have an idea of a Christianity that may not be what the Bible actually teaches. If you would like to talk more about this topic I would be happy to connect with you.

    • @tuathadesidhe1530
      @tuathadesidhe1530 2 года назад +1

      @@FamilyStyleLearning the Vikings were no more violent than any other group at that time, certainly no more violent than what christianity dished out. Unlike christians, vikings could happily live alongside groups of people of other faiths without interfering with their beliefs.
      You see when a culture is annihilated it is the victor who writes the "history" - and that's what's happened with the slandering of the Vikings and others.
