I definitely learn along my children, but they don't know what they don't know, so I make sure they're exposed to a lot of different subjects and topics and skills, and when they gravitate towards something, I make sure they have plenty of time for it without abandoning others.

I lean classical when I focus too much on external artificial standards and a desire to pay myself on the back. Then I catch myself and remember that's not an attitude I'm wanting to pass on. My favorite reference point is CM, but I am not a purist. So eclectic for sure.

I was wondering (and wanted to ask you) if it would be a good idea to start with this curriculum for her, even if it’s a bit “behind” for her age. Thank you in advance! I just find it impressive that the book includes an entry on *every* country, though I'm curious what it defines as a country. Does it include segments on Palestine or Taiwan, for example. Regardless, this book seems to me like a servicable introduction for young people who are curious about the world. What it lacks in depth of information it clearly attempts to make up for in scope. A fair bit better than a simple index, but no substitute for proper research. Then again, given the audience it markets itself toward, it would appear that inciting inspiration to seek further knowledge was the main mission statement of the authors, rather than becoming just another textbook the teacher would dole out. 5/10

Your thoughts are very much in line with mine. I purchased BibiloPlan Ancients (Remember the Days and Lesson Plans Plus) last year thinking we would use it this year. My youngest is in 4th grade, and I would only be using it with him. So, the family-style aspect of the curriculum doesn't really matter to me. My high schoolers use Notgrass, and we love it and I don't plan to change that. I haven't loved the samples I've looked at for the elementary levels of Notgrass, though. Before purchasing BiblioPlan, I was debating between it and Mystery of History. I read aloud sample lessons from both, and my son and I both liked BiblioPlan better. Once I got the curriculum in my hands, though, I found it overwhelming and decided to save it for next year instead (5th grade). I'm still mulling it over and trying to figure out how we would actually use it and what extras (maps, timeline, questions, crafts...) we would want to use. What the guide says are the essentials feels like TOO much to me, and the cost goes up very quickly when you start adding all the things. I can't even imagine having time to read an additional spine, so all of that information in the guide feels like overkill. I was excited about having all of the read-aloud suggestions, but I found that information to be confusing and overwhelming too. Just figuring out where to look in the guide and how to read ALL the different lists was a challenge. So... I still think I want to use BiblioPlan, but I really wish it was more open-and-go.

I had originally started teaching my son (almost 4) phonics for the alphabet and then I found you 😅 so I tried to start over and do it with the all about spelling method and he had suuuuch a hard time understanding the difference. What would you recommend doing going forward?

@@aliciapauline8154 Honestly, learn the AAS rules yourself and teach them to your son as you go. I teach the rules to my youngest as we are reading or journaling. When he gets stumped I repeat all the sound possibilities and/or rules that apply. Probably not what you want to hear.

@@FamilyStyleLearning that saddens me that you didn't think anyone would watch. I pray more subscribers of your channel would comment and uplift YOU the way YOU uplift all of us! It's so easy to view a video for ones benefit and not comment (which we are all guilty of) but on smaller channels it's important imo. In the beginning the money is terrible and your viewers are a main motivating factor!

I am a Christian, and God knew what He was doing by not having me be a mom, even though I always thought I would be. I was also a RN for 35 years. God has used non-believers over the years for His purpose (or in OT times, those who didn't follow the law). If someone contributes to God's plan, their background isn't necessarily important. As far as gender issues, kids also need to know (at an age appropriate time) that some babies are born with chromosomal issues that make specific gender non-differentiated (literally called disorders of gender determination). I personally took care of several babies that didn't have clear gender specific genitalia- or had both sets of gonads. I find it interesting that people of any faith worry about science vs. religion (a term I don't like; I view spirituality as being much more intimate with Jesus than doctrine and keeping things so boxed up- everyone's relationship with Christ is different based on their interpretation of their surroundings- ie abuse, neglect, healthy home life, trauma at the hands of strangers, etc; I know I can read the same passages at different times, and get different things from them). All of science was created by God- as were the brains in scientists (Christian or not) that made discoveries. I find it sad that people who claim to love God can be so motivated "in the name of God" to cause division- which is never from God. We're to love others- no exclusionary clause.

@@tatteredquilt I don't think the Bible and science contradict each other, but when they seem to we really need to check what God has to say on that and consider original design before sin entered the world. I'm also well aware of those who are born intersex and the Bible does talk about that. My children will be taught more at the appropriate age as you suggested.
