Tbh I had a matco 3/8 flex head ratchet rebuilt 3 times in 2 months. Just didn't held up to my daily use. Plus I was peeved with getting fluids in the internals causing hydro locked. My gw has stayed consistent. Without fail. So I'll stick to my GW.

Yes I bought a couple of Matco ratchets they feel close to GW so I sold them off and kept my GW. Matco ratchet break teeth more often and the grip deteriorate faster

I personally have all of the major tool brands available at my fingertips weekly, but I honestly after watching this video can tell you, it's not because of the price maybe it's the preference of how the tools work. But I own more matco ratchets than any other brand, I do have some snap-on and I do have some gear wrench but 90% of the time I go to is matco. Coming from a 17-year veteran. But once again this is only my opinion

Gear wrench has become my go to ratchet by default. I don't turn a wrench professionally anymore and the cost of the snap on and matco are not worth it to me anymore.

    Thanks...
I think there's a threshold where you can acquire a very good basic quality. The fact is, chromium and carbon steel are known recipes. And, the ratchet mechanism is no secret either.
Beyond that, the gains are in the margins. The practical gains (functional usefulness) - are even less.
The players call it 'product differentiation'...

Matco are great and USA made. But the gear wrench is also a good ratchet and uses the basic of the Matco ratchet and are made in Taiwan. For the money, gear wrench, for high quality in a professional environment, Matco

Johns favorite would ultimately come down to his shops tool truck brand lol. I bought gearwrench for my house just because they are so much cheaper and I don't use them for work.

Old school mechanic here, Honestly I would prefer the gearwrench, I work with a few matco drive ratchets, gotta say was not impressed, now I use a gearwrench long extension flex head locking cushion grip to remove a muffler bolt. To me, way better than the matco, plus less expensive then the Matco, but hay that's just my opinion

John (the one in the video) is a big tool geek. Personally, if If a ratchet works then I have no brand opinion lol. then again, I am not a mechanic full time, I'm an operator
