Wow. A thoughtful and technical review. Very much appreciated. I'm excited to give it a listen.

Great review, I do agree with most of your cons about the album. But I fucking love the album version of 'Smile'. That song hits harddd! Love it. Its better than Polaris for me. Just too short.
Also, cant wait to hear the stereoscopic version of the album. I can imagine how eargasmic it would be.

I AM WAY HAPPIER ABOUT THIS THAN I SHOULD BE😂😂😂

I actually like this more than Polaris, it's more concise and it sticks with a singular theme, i prefer concept records so i naturally prefer this record, i am surprised you didn't like Smile (the record version), i thought it sounded huge and it was a great closer to the album along with The Arrow

Its officially number 2 on my list of the whole Tess discography. Proggy as fuck, and I like records that have a flow. The only problem with Sonder is its too short. Its essentially a long EP. Songs like 'Orbital' and 'The Arrow' are missed opportunities. If they were proper songs and not just >2 minute tidbits, I would have been sold. Love the darker tone they went with overall.

Just heard the album for the first time today. I agree with just about everything you said except I really love the album version of Smile. I agree with you 100% about Luminary. The rhythm on that song is a disaster and Dan's vocals aren't brought out like they should've been. This song's chorus could've been Massive!! I would just scrap that song and King should be the opener. Great review as usual!
I'd give this one an 8/10, better than their debut, but not as good as Altered State and Polaris.

Haha I'm finding myself skip Luminary with each listen because King is soo much better and Luminary is kind of average. I also love album version of Smile.

Smile is now an amazing track.

Thanks for the review. Can't wait to hear it myself. Totally agree with you on King, that's truly classic Tesseract and I've listened to it many a time already. Smile I feel is still...slightly off. Maybe it's because they released a second version and I'd gotten used to the first, but I totally see what you're saying about the vocals not quite being produced right. I still like it is a song, and the same goes for Luminary - at the time I was underwhelmed by how short it was, but on reflection I still enjoy it. Hope the rest doesn't disappoint!

I think it's better than One and Polaris, and about on the same level as Altered State. It might not be a classic like AS but I think it's technically probably better

am surprised you did not address the longest track on the record. Beneath my skin/Mirror image which is technically 2 separate songs, but still them being prog i think it's important to address that

My ONLY criticism is that it's too short. Still amazing. My favorite song is probably Juno.

For me this record comes in second, right behind altered state. Personally, my favourite song from the album was Beneath My Skin / Mirror Image. I could just be a sucker for long songs, to me this one really fits with the kind of space theme they are going for. Finally, I like the second half of Juno the best.

Also, I don't know if it's just me, but this album kind of reminds me of the movie Interstellar. Anyone else?

When the drums and guitar hit sync in beneath my skin... probably the best moment in the album for me fuckk

I feel that Polaris and Sonder are very similar in sound, actually.

crash979797 not really though. The vocals and instrumentals in general are a lot less toned down here. There are a lot of parts that are more like Altered State. Such as Juno. And the production is also waaaay different than Polaris.

Vinícius 17 I would be so disappointed if they brought him back. That would mean no more good live performances

I love Ashe's voice but it sounds too "Generic" for lack of a better word, Dans is so unique and he has a much better ability to put emotion and weight behind his melodies.
Not to mention how much creativity he brings to the table. I'm sure Ashe did too but good Lord when comparing the lyrics and melodies to accompany them now vs when Ashe was there, in my opinion, there is no contest.
I'll phrase it like this to end off, Tesseract with Ashe are a great Prog-Rock band. But Tesseract with Dan are the innovators and leaders of the entire Genre.
