One of the nicest things that Ron Raines ever did was he did a benefit show where he sang "The Impossible Dream" from Man Of La Mancha that he dedicated for Michael Zaslow who was battling ALS and as many of you know they were both stars of Broadway. Michael did Fiddler On The Roof, Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, and My Fair Lady
Goddamn, 1977-2009. Love him or hate him (plenty of fans did both OR either or), Alan Spaulding helped to keep this show moving forward, not only on his own account in the '80s, but with his sons and daughter/sister (SERIOUSLY? No birth certificate would EVER have said "Jennifer Richards" at the time of Amanda's birth!!), this guy... wow. Alan Spaulding. Don't forget him.
@@kelvinblack4867 You got that right. I wonder sometimes if he "raped" Jane Marie Stafford/Jennifer Richards. What Brandon did to his Son Alan had a devastating impact on him. He could never have a happy relationship with his Wives.
You were smart SaSlaya. and slsl86, although Alan Spaulding was an Intergral part of the show, Roger Thorpe was also a man that should never be forgotten.
Between Guiding Light, As The World turns and Young and the Restless. Guiding light was the best. I miss this soap very much. Alan and Roger was the best villains in soap dom. I loved the Phillip and Beth storyline.
laminage I remember watching this scene when it originally aired my heart literally dropped. Never thought Alan Spaulding would die, but at least he was at peace with his family and managed to make some friends from his enemies.
@@a.b.sproductionsllc Yeah, God so much has happened in the past 11 Years. If you can check out the UK Soap Opera EastEnders. In the 1980's their Neighborhood Albert Square made 5th Street look like Sesame Street. I told UK Soap Fans about SORAS, and how Actors can Jump from One Show to another, because many of them were owned by Proctor & Gamble, I told them about Michael Zaslow, and how they do multiple Recasting something that isn't done in The UK. The "Kids" actually Grow up. Yet they are more Gay Friendly and more "PC" in the sense that they continuously hire Black Actors & Indian Actors as well and The actors who are Gay on The Show are Also Gay in Real Life.
The Temptations also sang "The Impossible Dream" when Paul Williams 1939-1973 died by suicide. Over the years as you know Motown has very strong ties to Guiding Light. Billy Dee Williams and James Earl Jones who both played Dr. Jim Frazier in 1965-1966 respectively who would later work on various Motown Movies also they played alot of Motown Songs over the years.
Yes, I think she's clean & sober and an active Member of AA who probably had alot of Self Worth Issues. Knowing her Father may have cared for but didn't Love her Mother Julie who may have had PPD and took her life. She's probably an Interior Decorator and even made peace with Alan Michael who remarried Lucy in Paris, France. I think that Alan Michael and patronizes the Club that The Late Hampton Speakes once owned before he died. Kat probably works for a Magazine focusing on Black Women like Essence.
Reva was a trip "hitting" Jonathan like that. It's slightly irrelevant but on the Webseries "The Chanticleer" that takes place in Ithaca, NY in the 1950's, a Woman named Edie Chaucer owns a Bar called Chanticleer who decides at the last minute to Hire a College Student named Val after Manson her "Colored" Bartender gently suggests she do so.
He died in a Plane Crash. Jerry Ver Dorn was Fired after 25 Years of playing him. He later played Clint Buchanan #2 on One Life To Live which was the same show that Rehired Michael Zaslow after he also got fired from Guiding Light.
i'm gonna be completely totally honest they should've never had so many ridiculous stupendously stupid stories involving kim zimmer she was not the be all to end all, the whole tammy /johnathon thing was gross incestuous , i hated them killing off maureen way back , i hated them killing ross off ( they could've had the plot twist that blake found proof that ross was still alive and she was gonna find someone claiming to be ross) i hated them killing off alan i'm crying again over alan sitting there on the bench ..........if blake had to have a "happy" ending at least it was with frank who she had been with ( he and sherry blake had a "thing" in the bench of the diner after hours.)
I wish Guiding Light was never cancelled. I wish it was back on TV

I'm happy l finally got the chance to see the episode where Allen is found dead. It is still a heart wrenching scene despite when it was filmed. 😞
Wow I remember that. I miss As The World Turns and Guiding Light. Bring back
He was the only bad guy I ever cried over when he died.
Vdalem43 He and Roger Thorpe were two very needy Little Boys who never felt their Daddy loved them
laminage I noticed that especially from Alan Spaulding. Brandon was a bastard
Its unbelievable that Ron Raines never won an Emmy for playing Alan.:(

Been almost ten years and I'm still crying over Alan's death.
You were smart SaSlaya. and slsl86, although Alan Spaulding was an Intergral part of the show, Roger Thorpe was also a man that should never be forgotten.
True!

Again, thanks so much YL, for posting the whole thing. Big week, obviously, and I appreciate it very much.
You know what's so heartbreaking. Alan died but he was never fully happy. He didn't know how to be because he didn't feel he deserved it.

This is when Guiding Light had almost no budget to even afford actual inside sets. All the filming was done outside for cheap

So sad I am crying.
It was so fitting that Philip was the one who found Alan.
Alan and Roger are dead, but Annie Dutton is still lurking out there somewhere.
Annie Dutton was a villain with no redeemable qualities!
omg Alan!!!!! WHY!!!!!
What song is this? I love it
Kati Mac "Only Love" ruclips.net/video/XkwG_UJ641o/видео.html
I knew it! I told folks weeks ago they were gonna kill alan at the end of the show!
SaSlaya he was the last big villain of the show really. It figured they would kill him off.
Such a good series ❤
You know what's so eerie is that Chris Bernau, Daniel Pilon are dead in real life and now Alan is "dead" on The Show.
And of course Beth is so smug about it all. *SMH to Beth*
Forgot to make peace with Hope

Loved this show, after all the interpretations of alan Spaulding, he finally made good saved Philip. Dad stuff
I Was Sad Day When Alan Spaulding Died And The City Of Springfield Will Never Be The Same For The People
How is he not slump over ?

That's messed up. Took him decades to really appreciate the importance of family, only to die soon after. 😢
😔😔😔 sad finally all looked peacefull and good then 😳😳😳😳 I loved this soap :/
Where's Ross Marler
He died in a Plane Crash. Jerry Ver Dorn was Fired after 25 Years of playing him. He later played Clint Buchanan #2 on One Life To Live which was the same show that Rehired Michael Zaslow after he also got fired from Guiding Light.
Alan’s death is only sad because Philip is heartbroken. That’s it. Alan was awful.

They jumped the shark when they killed off Ross!
